I think people are forgetting, or

have already forgotten entirely,

the power of words. They can

change a bad day into a good

day, and sadly, vice-versa. I

myself have known many a good

day become wasted all because

of a few negative comments

from strangers on the Internet.

It’s silly, really. It’s silly how I am told by someone who doesn’t

even know me that I am not fit to be in their fandom or that my

music taste is worthless. It’s even sillier that I take these things

to heart. Yet, at the same time, words can have quite the

opposite effect. They can turn someone’s horrible day into an

amazing one. I recently discovered this Twitter account, where

someone anonymously passes on messages from people to their

friends. And there is this account where someone, also

anonymous, gives hope and courage to the Taylor Swift fandom

and to others.

So no matter what they are, or how much you mean them,

words can and will affect people’s lives. So make this choice:

will your words affect other people’s lives for better, or for

worse?

THE POWER OF

WORDS

Do you ever feel like when you compare yourself to the person sitting next to you, that you don't meet their standard? Whether it be by looks or achievements or personality, we always manage to be the biggest judge of ourselves. And to question why we do this, most people cannot comprehend. If we were the only human being to exist on this planet ever, then we would probably not judge ourselves, as the biggest reason for this judgement is that we compare ourselves. Sometimes we get the odd person who makes a crude remark and ruins our day, but overall we are self-conscious about things which other people most likely don't even take into account. So is this just the natural way in which humans behave, or is there something else to blame? Now and again we see the media commenting on celebrities and in the way of some media forms, the way of causing publicity is by picking out on people's areas which wouldn't be considered perfect. This catches on and the next minute you notice people wondering if this also relates to them, because they are not what the media considers 'perfection.' To contradict this, look through bad media and realise that they do not have any real definition of perfection, because nothing is just right. On the other hand, maybe it is in our nature. Humans are intelligent organisms that have developed to be the best, and maybe we each deep down want to be the best of the best. Maybe it's time that we all took a step back and realise that's not what truly matters.

Heat between Divergent

and THG

You may have noticed it, or you may not have, but the two fandoms have been at war recently, both voting for their respective heroine in a fan voted competition. Are you Team Katniss or Team Tris?

HOT No Make-Up Selfie

People have braved the No Make-Up selfie to raise awareness of cancer, and with great success - making £2 million in under 48 hours. You can still donate by texting 'BEAT' to 70099. Benedict Cumberbatch

Photobomb

It must have been so unex-pected for U2 when they noticed Benedict Cumber-batch photobombing them, but it resulted in one of the best photos ever. Marvel Films

Recently both the Amazing Spiderman 2 and Captain America: The Winter Solider have been released in cinemas. What’s more, Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out 1st May 2015 and X-Men: Days of Future Past is released in the coming month. The Divergent Film

The reviews were mixed for this film. Overall it appeared to make a great film, but there’s a few people saying it lacked originality.

“It’s a metaphor”

The jokes are all over Tumblr. At first, it was funny. But now it’s starting to get slightly repetitive and boring. Time for a new joke we think.

FANDOM PRANKS

Normal pranks are fun, but fandom pranks redefine the word (we

find, anyway). So bring out your inner Marauder and have fun

playing tricks on people! Mischief managed.

Whenever your friends or family mention a

fandom you’re in or something related to it,

pretend you don’t know what they’re talking about

and see how they react.

Tell people that you have a

boyfriend/girlfriend who

happens to have the same

name as your fictional

crush. Maybe don’t make it

such an unusual name,

however, as Finnick is quite

obviously from The Hunger

Games. And do remember:

only lies have details.

Choose one day and

cosplay as your

favourite character, not

only looking like them

but acting like them

too. If they are not from

this time period/world,

act how they would act

if they were thrust into

our world.

Draw tally marks on

your hand at irregular

intervals and see how

long it takes for people

to notice. When they do

notice, and ask you

about them, act

shocked and scared and

tell them that the

Silence are coming.

Change all of the photos in your house to ones of

your favourite celebrity/fictional character.

Similarly, stick their face over your friends’ things.

Only reply with quotes. You

can try and test yourself to

see how subtle you are by

seeing how long it takes for

people to notice. Equally,

you could test yourself by

quoting only one fandom

instead of a multitude.

Borrow your friend’s phone and

change all of their contacts to fictional

characters/celebrities and watch them

try and figure out who is who.

Carry a small angel around with you

everywhere and when you’re with a

fellow Whovian, gently move it closer

to them when they’re not looking.

Interview with

@HoechlinArmy

@HoechlinArmy is a Twitter account owned by Lily, dedicated to Teen Wolf and more

specifically one of the show’s stars, Tyler Hoechlin. She has followed the show from

the beginning and as her Twitter following continues to grow, so does her enjoyment

of the show. Lily talks about how she got into Teen Wolf, the season 3 finale and more.

SPOILER WARNING: the following interview contains season 3 spoilers

Why did you first become a fan of

Teen Wolf?

I first became a fan after seeing my

favorite actor, Tyler Hoechlin, was in it. I

grew interested seeing promo after

promo and I haven't missed an episode

since.

Why did you decide to dedicate a twitter account to Teen Wolf, and more specifically Tyler Hoechlin?

I dedicated my Twitter to Tyler Hoechlin because he's an amazing idol and I wanted to support him as much as possible and I thought having tons of people help support him with me would be amazing. I also have it for Teen Wolf because the show is just so incredible. All of the effects that go into it surely show and it has an amazing storyline and I need some way to vent about the emotions it is causing me.

What do you love most about Teen Wolf?

I love the suspense! I like being on the edge of my seat all the time wondering what happens next. I also love how it can be a mixture of drama and comedy. Those comedic scenes are so little but have such a great effect on me. I’m

always laughing for days.

How do you feel about Allison's death?

Allison's death makes me feel terrible! I looked up to her for being such a badass while all the guys were running things. She had girl power and her dying just killed me, no pun intended. She was so strong and to see her break in those final moments of her life made me sob. She was amazing and didn't deserve to die.

Scallison or Allisaac?

Scallison is the ship. It's been there since

the beginning and I think it will always

be the main ship. They were the lovers

and their love was a big part of the

show. Even though I still love Allisaac

and Scira, I still think Scallison is the #1.

9

How do you feel about the surprise

ending of the finale?

I feel shocked! Part of me thought Kate

might come back because Allison was

being haunted by her but I never

expected her to come back like that. And

Derek being shot by her, uh no. That was

definitely not in my idea of the ending of

S3.

Now we know that there can be more

than just werewolves, what animal do

you think would be the coolest to

transform into?

I think the Kanima would be awesome to

turn into. Just the fact you're basically a

lizard and you can make people become

paralysed by them just touching what

you've touched, how cool is that? I'd still

love to be a werewolf though.

What do you think is in store for

season 4?

Death. I mean in Beacon Hills there is

always death. I think we're going to see

the friendship/bond Scott, Stiles and

Derek have form into something bigger

and better. I hope we see Danny get more

involved now knowing he knows! All I

know is, I'm scared to know what does

come from S4.

Do you belong to any other Fandoms?

I belong in like every fandom. I love

drama shows and a lot of musicans so I

am always fangirling in one way or

another. But the Teen Wolf/Tyler

Hoechlin fandom is my #1 and always

will be.

Are there any fandom-related events

you're looking forward to this year?

I am really really really looking forward

to The Maze Runner movie! I love the

books and can't wait to see it on the big

screen! I am also excited for S4 of course.

We here at Fandoms Assemble love to bake, especially if it is fandom-related. This is why we

have decided to bake our very own fandom cupcakes, and share them with you. If you

choose to make your own, please do tweet us a picture using the hashtag #fandomcupcakes.

VANILLA CUPCAKES

Note: You will need a

12-hole cupcake tray

lined with paper cases.

This is the basic cake mixture for the cupcakes. Please note this is a

Hummingbird Bakery recipe.

Makes 12

120g plain flour

140g caster sugar

1½ teaspoons baking powder

a pinch of salt

40g unsalted butter at room tem-

perature

120ml whole milk

1 egg

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

1 Preheat the oven to 170°C (325°F) Gas 3

2 Put the flour, sugar, baking

powder, salt and butter in a

freestanding electric mixer with a

paddle attachment (or use a

handheld electric whisk) and beat

on slow speed until you get a

sandy consistency and everything

is combined. Gradually pour in half

the milk and beat until the milk is

just incorporated.

3 Whisk the egg, vanilla extract

and remaining milk together in a

separate bowl for a few seconds,

then pour into the flour mixture

and continue beating until just

incorporated 0scrape any unmixed

ingredients from the side of the

bowl with a rubber spatula).

Continue mixing or a couple more

minutes until the mixture is

smooth. Do no over-mix.

4 Spoon the mixture into paper

cases until two-thirds full and

bake in the preheated oven for 20-

25 minutes, or until light golden

and the sponge bounces back

when touched. A skewer inserted

in the centre should come out

clean. Leave the cupcakes to cool

slightly in the tray before turning

out onto a wire cooling rack to

cool completely.

from the Hummingbird Bakery.

Beat the icing sugar and butter together in a freestanding

electric mixer with a paddle attachment (or use a handheld

comes together and is well-mixed. Turn the mixer down to

slow speed. Combine the milk and vanilla extract in a

separate bowl, then add to the butter mixture, a couple of

tablespoons at a time. Once all the milk has been

incorporated, turn the mixer up to high speed. Continue

beating until the frosting is light and fluffy, at least five

minutes. The longer the frosting is beaten, the fluffier and

lighter it becomes.

SHERLOCK

Note: Dying the icing

1 Take a chunk of the ready to roll white icing and slowly add the

black food colouring to it in small

amounts. Repeat this until you

gain the desired shade of black. If

you do not want to do this, it may

be easier to buy ready to roll black

icing and instead move onto step

two.

2 Roll the black icing until it is around 1cm thick. Using a round

cookie cutter just bigger than the

cupcake, cut out 12 circles from

the icing.

3 Spread a thin layer of jam onto

the cupcakes so the icing will stick.

Carefully place the circles of icing

onto the cakes. Then, using the

yellow writing icing, pipe “221B”

in the middle of each cake.

Underneath it pipe a doorknob in

the shape of a tear drop.

third of icing repeat this,

however, colour it yellow.

3 Roll the red icing out until it is around 1cm thick. Cut out

twelve upside down isosceles

triangles from the red icing so

they fit neatly onto the

frosting.

2 Cut a small hole out of the

upside down cupcake. Cut one

of the green cables so it is a

good stalk length and put it in

the hole.

3 Ice the cake with some

more frosting. If wanted, leave

a small part uncovered and

cut into it to look like a bite.

This decoration could represent any werewolf, but we have chosen to recreate

Derek Hale when he was an alpha, eyes and all.

For 12 cupcakes

Ready to roll white icing

Note: Dying the icing

can be very messy. We

suggest wearing

disposable gloves.

TEEN WOLF

This decoration could represent any werewolf, but we have chosen to recreate

Derek Hale when he was an alpha, eyes and all.

For 12 cupcakes

Ready to roll white icing

Red food colouring

Black writing icing

White writing icing

M&Ms

Nutella/chocolate spread

Piping bag

Difficulty level: III

1 Pipe the Nutella on the cupcake, giving it a fur like

texture. Place a M&M at the

bottom of the cupcake. This

will be the mouth. We used

peanut M&Ms as they were

bigger and so gave us a

bigger surface area to work

with.

2 Add small amounts of the

red food colouring to the

ready to roll white icing

until it is the desired shade

of alpha-eyed red. If you do

not want do this, it may be

easier to buy ready to roll

red icing instead. Take two

small amounts and roll

them into two small balls.

These will be the eyes. They

do not need to be red and if

another colour is desired,

feel free to use a different

colour of food colouring to

dye it with. Place the eyes

onto the cupcake above the

mouth.

3 Then use the white

writing icing and pipe lines

onto the M&M coming from

the middle. These will be

the teeth.

4 With black writing icing,

pipe a dot on each eye and

then in between the eyes

above the mouth. The third

dot will be the nose.

I think some Harry Potter fans take it too far.

The Sarah Jane Adventures were really

underrated.

As much as I love Andrew Scott, I really

think bringing back Moriarty was a bad

idea.

DRESS LIKE SOPHIE TURNER Sophie Turner is well known for her role as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. At the age of only 18, her identity in her fashion is easy to recognize. We have chosen to recreate a very laid back outfit, worn by Sophie in the airport. Sophie wears a pair of light blue high-waisted jeans, and a pair of black sneakers with white laces. Her shirt is a white, long-sleeve crop top, but we decided to choose a striped crop top instead. She accessorizes with a pair of sunglasses, a bracelet, some rings, a small pendant necklace and bright pink nails. This outfit is very relaxed and comfortable, but extremely easy to recreate and very fashionable.

DRESS LIKE RICHARD MADDEN Richard Stark is best known for his portrayal of Robb Stark on Game of Thrones. At 27 years old, he keeps it young and fresh when it comes to his fashion. We decided to recreate this look which is great for running errands or sight-seeing with friends. It's very relaxed yet put-together. Richard wears a pair of black trousers with a striped, quarter-length sleeved shirt. For shoes he is wearing a pair of grey flip-flops, but we chose instead a pair of blue espadrilles, which are perfect for colder spring weather. To accessorize he sports a pair of aviator sunglasses and a Canon camera.

TEEN WOLF

If you thought that season 3B of Teen Wolf would just be more teenagers running around saving their town from werewolves, you were dead wrong. 3B pushed the Teen Wolf fandom to their emotional limits with the intense drama and mortifying heartbreak shown in this half of the season; just when we thought we’d seen it all! It’s safe to say you’ll lose your mind when watching Teen Wolf this season.

3A was shocking enough; the themes of ancient religions and the superstitions behind them were enthralling from beginning to end, and Scott, Allison and Stiles’ ‘deaths’ were enough to send the fandom into a never-ending state of emotional instability, but 3B was really something else. Druids or Alpha packs weren’t the subjects of this season, but Japanese folk tales; 3B saw the introduction of Kira Yukimura, the adorable daughter of the History teacher with more than her fair share of shady family secrets, as well as Malia: the mysterious and somewhat hostile were-coyote. As much as it’s always great to see new female characters in Teen Wolf, was I the only one who thought that the introduction of were-coyotes was going just a step too far? It got confusing enough when Jackson morphed into the Kanima in season two, but then we had the Alpha pack, Lydia the Banshee, and Jennifer the Darach in 3A. If that didn’t make your head spin enough, 3B saw the Oni wreak havoc; Kira and her mother defy the laws of Science as Kitsunes;

and Stiles making your heart hurt in ways you didn’t even think possible as a Nogitsune. Although this is all exciting and fresh, is it too much? I guess only time will tell. Teen Wolf has well and truly proved that anything’s possible, because, ‘dude, it’s Beacon Hills’.

Don’t even get me started on the character deaths in 3B. Mention the name Allison Argent near me and I’ll probably collapse into a mess of tears. I’m not over it, and I don’t think the rest of the fandom is, either. Allison’s death moved us all to tears, and even though I don’t see why it was necessary to kill off such a wonderfully crafted and developed character, Allison’s death was handled in a way that made it perfectly heart-breaking and unforgettable. I think I speak for us all when I say that I’m going to miss seeing Allison on Teen Wolf, but at least Crystal Reed’s departure saves Allison from the often mediocre writing showcased on the show.

3B also saw the death of Aiden, but was anybody really upset by that? I definitely wasn’t upset to see the end of Nogitsune Stiles; is it too much to ask to just have the pack all being happy for a bit? That’d be a welcome change. I’d also like to see Cora Hale come back; basically, I’d just like more female characters to stick around - they seem to have a pretty high mortality rate in Beacon Hills. The return of Kate Argent had me practically jumping for joy, and I can’t wait to see what fresh heartbreak season four will bring.

ALL OUR YESTERDAYS CRISTIN TERRILL

This is a rather wrenching,

brilliantly plotted story of love,

sacrifice, and the infinite

implications of our every

choice. While confusing at

times, and with concepts that

are occasionally hard to grasp,

Cristin Terrill builds a world

that you can see happening. It’s

based on science and facts and

politics to make it seem like a

very real possibility and to

make you

absolutely terrified

from start to finish.

This book certainly

broke my heart; the

questions this book

posed created

decisions I am glad

I never have to

make. If you could

go back and kill a

man who would do terrible

things before he had the power

to do so, would you? What if

that person was one you loved?

How easy would it be to look

into the eyes of an innocent

who couldn’t believe they’d

ever hurt anyone… and pull the

trigger? Is that person even the

same as the one they’ll become?

The characters are so multi-

layered and complex that they

jump off the page. Marina’s

character development was one

of my favourite elements of the

book—watching how she grows

into someone brave and strong

and good. The transition from

helpless to the girl who can save

the world. The growth of her

character felt realistic, you

could easily see how her

experiences had changed her,

and the book touches upon the

question of how much people

can really change.

How much of our

adult selves lurk

beneath the surface

children? If we do bad

things, when did we

become a person

capable of doing bad

things? Was it always

there? This is such a

fascinating book on so many

levels—the scientific world

building aspect, the political

aspect and the character’s

struggles.

I adore Finn. And maybe that’s

why I don’t care that the

romance played quite a big part

in this book, because Finn is

just the person Em needed to

The White Queen takes us through The Wars of the Roses in a compelling way in which it hooks us to every moment. The series explores the vivid lives of the women of the House of Lancaster and the House of York, beginning with the story of Elizabeth Woodville, The White Queen. If you are a fan of history and dramatic novels that take twists and turns throughout then this is a book for you.

Editor’s pick:

The White Queen by Philippa Gregory

How They Met and Other Stories

by David Levithan

This is such a beautiful book and I’ve recommended it to a lot of my friends. It is a selection of short stories about young people meeting and falling in love. After I read the blurb, I knew there was going to be a lot of cliche stories, but that didn’t stop me from reading it.

Even though the stories are only short, I found myself growing attached to the characters. If their relationships triumphed, I would be smiling to myself alone in my room and wishing that the story was longer so I could learn more about their love. The stories show so many different types of relationships and each one is unique. Personally, my two favourite stories are Starbucks Boy and The Number of People Who Meet on Airplanes.—Eve (@jilyinthetardis)

I didn't think I'd like The Woman in Black by Susan Hill as I've never really been a fan of forced school books, as well as not liking the horror genre. But I actually genuinely enjoyed it and it’s one of the first classics I've read in a while! I really enjoyed the gradual suspense and overall eery tone of the book. It has gotten me out of an extended reading slump and overall I'm really happy I read it!

The Oscars 2014 Did the Oscars pass you by, or are you just plain missing it? Prepare to relive the

highlights, including the night’s big winners, hilarious moments, that selfie, and the most glamorous pizza party ever.

Now The Oscars is a pretty long show, three

and a half hours to be exact, but for the Brits

it was well worth staying up until 5am on a

Monday morning. Ellen DeGeneres, hosting

for second time, was a hit with amongst the

public and her star-studded audience, with

plenty of audience participation.

The Winners

In a three and a half hour show there are A

LOT of winners, but we’ve narrowed it down

to the six big awards.

Up first on the night was Best Supporting

Actor which went to Jared Leto for Dallas

Buyers Club, beating the likes of Bradley

Cooper, Michael Fassbender and in his first

film role, Barkhad Abdi. Leto had been raking

in the awards all season so it wasn’t a surprise

that he picked up the Oscar as well; his

nearest competition was Abdi for Captain

Phillips who won the BAFTA, preventing a

clean sweep, but it wasn’t went to be for

Somalian newcomer.

Next up was Best Supporting Actress.

Probably the closest battle of the night was

between Jennifer Lawrence for American

Hustle and Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years a

Slave. They had pretty much shared the

awards up to this point but it was Nyong’o

that took home the Oscar, having become a

star of the award season. She even made

Benedict Cumberbatch cry at her speak, as if

she wasn’t amazing enough already. For best

actress, Cate Blanchett was a shoe-in, and

surprise surprise she won for her role in Blue

Jasmine. There was always only going to be

one winner, she’d won every award going,

beating out the likes of Meryl ‘18-Oscar-

nominations’ Streep, Sandra Bullock, Amy

Adams, and Dame Judi Dench.

The last acting award of the night, Best Actor,

went to Matthew McConaughey for Dallas

Buyers Club. Yet again dear old Leo went home

Oscarless, having won a Golden Globe for his

role in The Wolf of Wall Street, but the race

was always between McConaughey and

Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years a Slave. Despite

Ejiofor taking home the BAFTA a few Sundays

before, McConaughey was the strong favourite

from the beginning.

Best Director went to former Harry Potter

director Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity, which was

the big winner of the night, ending up with 7

Oscars. David O. Russell was also very much in

the running for American Hustle, but Cuaron

just edged it, as he had done for most of the

award season.

Best film, as many predicted, went to 12 Years

most glamorous pizza party ever.

a Slave, beating off competition from

Gravity and American Hustle, which

surprisingly won no awards all night,

despite 7 nominations.

The Selfie

Ellen had many highlights on the night, the

biggest probably the now infamous selfie.

What started as an innocent attempt to get

a selfie with Meryl, ended with the likes of

Brangelina and Julia Roberts getting in on

the act, and a new retweet record. Lupita

Nyong’o’s brother even got involved,

standing front and centre behind Bradley

Cooper. Jared Leto’s half a face wasn’t so

lucky...

Pizza Party

Another of Ellen’s highlights was the pizza

party which saw her surprise an ordinary

pizza delivery guy by bringing him onto

the Oscars stage to feed the stars. Ellen

then went on to walk down the aisles

collecting tips with Pharrell’s hat.

The Cumberbomb

Before the ceremony had even started

everyone was talking about Benedict

Cumberbatch. Ben was there as part of the

12 Years a Slave team but he’ll be

remembered at this year’s Oscars for

photobombing U2 on the red carpet.

Adele Dazeem

Before Idina Menzel took to the stage to

perform the Oscar winning Let it Go from

Frozen, John Travolta came on to

introduce her. However he misinterpreted

the autocue and ended up introducing

‘Adele Dazeem’, whoever that is…

Pharrell

In one of the other performances of the

night, as Pharrell performed Happy from

Despicable Me 2, he took to the audience

to dance with the stars, including Lupita

Nyong’o, Amy Adams and Meryl Streep.

Just picture it now.

So that’s all the best bits you missed from

The Oscars 2014. From impromptu pizza

parties to Meryl shimmying with Pharrell,

this year’s Oscars had it all. Roll on next

year!

My Favourite: Demi Lovato

music, but is dedicated to helping others, whether it’s through her success as an artist, or as a person with real, relatable experiences. Demi supports many charities and organisations with aims to help teens being bullied, as well as those suffering from mental health issues and addiction: all issues that she has dealt with in her life. In June 2013, Demi announced the launch of the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program, following the death of her father, with means of helping those dealing with mental health and addiction issues by funding treatment that would otherwise not have been attained due to financial issues. Demi has also been a part of the Free the Children organisation, spending her 21st birthday helping less fortunate people in Kenya. Demi’s selflessness, as well as her love and respect for other people makes her my role model and shows that something positive can always be made out of suffering.

Out of all the celebrities that we know and love, I believe that Demi Lovato is one of the best role models for our generation; I am incredibly thankful to have a hero like Demi to look up to, and I will always be proud to call myself a Lovatic.

Age: 21

Famous for: Singing

and acting

Albums: Don’t Forget (2008), Here We Go Again (2009), Unbroken (2011), Demi (2013).

Appeared in: Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam as Mitchie Torres, Sonny with a Chance as Sonny Munroe, and Glee as Danielle “Dani”.

Known primarily for her roles on Disney Channel, Demi Lovato has proven to be so much more than ‘just a Disney kid’. Demi’s less than humble beginning paved the way for the actress-slash-singer-slash-inspiration and propelled Demi Lovato to dizzying heights of fame. Seen as the adorable Sonny Munroe, Demi’s acting career took off, and a career as a multi-platinum selling recording artist soon followed after Demi starred alongside The Jonas Brothers as Mitchie in Disney

Channel’s movie Camp Rock. Since then, Demi has been nominated for over 100 awards, and written several multi-platinum singles such as ‘Give Your Heart a Break’, ‘Heart Attack’, and ‘Skyscraper’.

While Demi achieved levels of fame that most can only dream of, she struggled with personal issues that became somewhat of a trademark for her; Demi shared her story of her struggles with depression, bulimia, self harm and addiction after a trip

to rehab in 2010, and instantly became an inspiration and a role model for anyone in need of one. As reflected in her music, nowadays, Demi Lovato is stronger than she’s ever been; a warrior.

Demi’s talent, strength and all-round kindness makes her my favourite celebrity and my hero; as is the story with many of her fans, Demi Lovato has helped me to believe in myself and overcome many of my issues: because of Demi, I can stay strong. As quoted by many aptly named Lovatics, “if Demi can do it, so can I”. Demi Lovato writes music that not only perfectly fits Top 40 standard, but also inspires; tracks like ‘Skyscraper’, ‘Warrior’, and ‘Believe in Me’ are incredibly moving and never fail to make me shed a tear.

Demi not only writes positive, uplifting, and all-around fun

My OTP: Percico

Percy and Nico. Pernico, or

Percico. My OTP, created by

Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson is

the main character of the first 6

books, the PJO series. The

series after this, the "Heroes of

Olympus", is where they meet.

Percy Jackson is a hero, but

he's not perfect. He's a young

demigod just trying to survive

in a crazy world of monsters

and other not so nice creatures.

I can somewhat relate to that.

"Seaweed

Brain", as he is

referred to, has

definitely

earned his

nickname. He

doesn't always

get things right

but his heart is

in the right

place. Readers

of the series

will know that

Percy has a fatal flaw: loyalty.

He is always loyal to his friends

and would put them before the

safety of the world. That

doesn't sound good for the rest

of us, but if they were my

friends I would do the same!

Enter Nico, son of Hades. He's

not quite like the others. You

could call him the underdog.

He's had, to say the least, a

hard life. Younger than Percy,

he travelled, literally, through

hell... alone. You can't help but

care for Nico. When I found out

that Nico liked Percy, I wanted

it to work. I wanted him to be

ha

though, Nico isn't just some sad

little boy. He's a fighter, with his

skull ring and Stygian iron sword.

He's tough. But he is (at least half)

human. And all humans need care.

Nico deserves that. Percy could be

the person to help. The hero and

the underdog. The trapped nature

of the underworld contrasted with

the freedom of the sea. We've been

with Percy from the very

beginning, and in the end we hope

he'll be the one to save the day.

But the real

can he save

happy so badly. But Percy is

already in love. He fell into

Tartarus for this girl, because he

just wouldn't let her go again.

This person is Annabeth. They

met when they were 12, and

throughout the books their

relationship has blossomed

beautifully. They are another OTP

of mine. In "The Lost Hero" of

HoO, they are separated, and

Percy's memories are wiped

apart from one word: Annabeth.

There were

times when the

only thing

keeping them

going is the

thought of the

other. So we've

hit the struggle.

The hero, the

girl he loves,

and Nico. I love

Annabeth and

respect her so

much. She matches Percy

perfectly. "Wise Girl" is another

apt nickname. But Nico is so

vulnerable, and he needs

someone - someone strong like

Percy. Are they are soul mates, as

Percabeth seem to be? No,

probably not. But there's

something about this pairing that

appeals to me. Some of this love

has to be

attributed to fan

art from tumblr,

(in particular the

wonderful Viria,

whose work is

loved by the

fandom). But it's

not just that. I just

want someone to

care for him. Don’t

get me wrong

though

Don’t you just love to re-watch your

favourite episode of Doctor Who? Or to

re-read your favourite book? Or to

listen to your favourite song on repeat?

When we read a book for the first time,

it can be an emotional rollercoaster as

you fall in love with the characters and

the storyline. Not

everyone

understands the

obsession with the

book and there isn’t a

way to live it all over

again without

reading it all over

again.

As good as fanfictions

are, it’s not quite the same as reading

the book. Sometimes they change your

view of the book or make you see the

characters in a different light to before.

The only way to truly re-live it is to

read it again and smile at the memories

of the book as you immerse yourself in

the fantasy all over again. It doesn't

matter that your once brand-new book

is slowly becoming dog-eared with tea

stains because you are living

something that you loved for a second,

third or fiftieth time.

It’s the same with films. The first time

you watch it is the best time, but it’s so

easy to just pick up the DVD and watch

it for the twenty-

second time since you

first got it. So many

people have watched

Frozen over and over

again because they

love it so much.

Some people might

ask why we watch the

same film again–

don’t we get bored? Well, no- of course

we don’t. We love it for a specific

reason. We could be in love with a

certain character or the world that the

story is set in. That’s absolutely,

fantastically fine.

After all, I’m always telling my friends

that you can never read Harry Potter

too many times.

UNDER APPRECIATED

CHARACTERS When people hear the name “Lily Potter”, they ask if they mean the mother of Harry Potter or the daughter, both of which whose namesakes are the same. It’s quite obvious why Harry named his only daughter after his mother, in honour of her sacrifice and her very large con-tribution to the First Wizarding War. In Ma-rauder’s Era fanfiction, people are good at por-traying Lily Evans (her maiden name) horribly off the mark: either she’s a horrible person for walking away from Severus Snape or a carbon copy of either Hermione Granger or Ginny Weasley with auburn red hair and Harry’s green eyes. Otherwise, she’s portrayed (for lack of a better word) as a saint. Lily Evans Pot-ter is her own character and she should be treated as such: the charming, brilliant, cheeky and intelligent student her former Potions pro-fessor remembered her as, the daring and brave mother who sacrificed her own life for her only son, and the person who would never back down.

It’s funny that a character that has an entire series based on him is considered under-appreciated. Ask anyone who their favourite character is in the story of our childhoods, Harry Potter: answers range from Hermione to even You-Know-Who. Rarely will some-one answer with the hero of the story, Harry, the boy with the lightning scar that has surprisingly received a considerable amount of hate. Yes, he can be self-centred. Yes, he can be a jerk to Hermione and Ron. He, however, represents something that many heroic characters throughout the history lack: he is incredibly human, despite his supernatural as-pects. People think a hero is someone with admired traits of valour, nobility, and so on. Harry exhibits all of these, yet with a touch of humanity, a trait so many people want to ignore. For example, this is what drives him to forgive Snape: Snape was an incredibly selfish, prejudiced man, yet he was selfless with his life, and Harry acknowledges that as good. Harry re-minds us that the greatest heroes are inherently hu-man, and thus deserves appreciation.

“You’ve left out one of the chief characters: Samwise the Brave! I want to hear more about Sam.” You know what Frodo, so do I. Samwise Gamgee is the true hero throughout the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and whilst he may not be skilled with a blade or particularly nimble on his toes, he has what many of the other characters lack: humility. Sam is the definition of a hero, he takes up the task of escorting Frodo to Mount Doom for neither fame nor glory, but simply for love; the love he has for his best friend triumphs over the bleakness of the journey they are faced with. The fact that he is always prepared to sacrifice himself for Frodo and his ability to lift the spirits of those around him are what truly set Samwise Gamgee apart from the other characters. The title of ‘Samwise the Brave’ doesn’t even come close to demonstrating how truly heroic this character is and ‘Frodo wouldn’t have got far without Sam’ is the understatement of the century.

TOP 9 GINGERS Ed Sheeran

This British singer-songwriter has

captured our hearts since A-Team was

released back in 2011 and so there is

no doubt that he would be on our list.

Ed may have all the glitz and glamour

that the showbiz life brings but that

does not stop him from performing at

award shows in simply jeans and a

hoodie, and adopting a cat.

To many, Karen is known

as Amelia Pond: the first

and last face the Eleventh Doctor ever saw. But many

forget that our freckle-covered Scottish girl was also a

model (and part of Kaz and the

Babes). Her huge impact on the

Doctor Who fandom has earned

her a place on our list. With Will taken by Kate,

it seems Harry is our

last chance to marry a

royal, unless of course

we are going after baby

George. This royal

bachelor may be a bit of

a party animal at times

but he has his heart in

the right place and so

manages to make his

way onto our list.

Prince Harry

Karen Gillan

Although some might

claim Emma Stone is

not a ‘true ginger’, don’t

worry: she is in our

books. With Andrew

Garfield as arm candy

(this alone could earn

her a place on the list)

and an array of titles

and awards under her

belt, this Stone won’t be

rolling away from fame

any time soon.

Emma Stone

Unlike her character

in Teen Wolf, Lydia,

Holland isn’t a

Banshee who hangs

out with

werewolves.

However, just like

Lydia, Holland is

extremely clever.

She enrolled at

UCLA as a molecular

biology major,

however. after a

year realised she

wanted to pursue

acting and was

forced to switch

majors and major in

women studies, a

subject she received

a degree in from

UCLA.

(Because top ten was too boring)

Sophie Turner’s ginger hair may not actually

be natural and only dyed for her role as Sansa

Stark, but we love it all the same and wish we

had it (even the guys).

The Weasleys

Probably the most famous ginger family in literature

history, it seemed impossible not to include the

Weasleys. From Arthur through to Ginny, the Weasleys

have bought both joy and sadness to the Potter stories

and are one of Jo’s best creations to date.

Ever since the release of Paramore’s

debut album All We Know Is Falling

(2005), Hayley, aged only 16 at the

time, has become a role-model to

many and a well-respected female

member of the pop-punk/rock world.

With Riot! (2007), Paramore had their

international breakthrough and

Hayley and the band have been in the

limelight ever since. The female singer

is looked up at by fans all over the

world for her captivating voice, iconic

flaming orange hair and down-to-earth personality.

Unlike her character

Holland isn’t a

She may not be a natural ginger, but

she plays probably one of the most

badass female superheroes ever,

and so we feel she needs to be

included in our list. Not only that,

Scarlett became a Global

Ambassador for Oxfam in 2005. And

we cannot forget that she has been

named twice as Esquire’s Sexiest

Woman Alive first in 2006 and then

in 2013, the only woman to have

been chosen for the title twice.

Scarlett Johansson

Sophie Turner’s ginger hair may not actually

be natural and only dyed for her role as Sansa

Stark, but we love it all the same and wish we

had it (even the guys).
