We will learn about the various marine life and corals of Cuba which thrive thanks to the successful conservation efforts made by the Cuban government over the years. We will learn first-hand from local marine experts about the history of the area as well as get a chance to document it ourselves, while experimenting with UW camera gear and refining our photography skills. Furthermore, we shall visit Cuba’s capital – Havana, and experience the local culture by communicating with locals and learning about important historical sites from professional guides. The importance of its protection goes beyond the Cuban waters jurisdiction, as the connectivity between marine ecosystems has international importance. UW Photo Workshop This is a unique trip, led by Mozaik UW Cameras and Fantasea Line. During the trip, UW photo expert Ran Mor will offer his advice and personal guidance for the participants, helping them to work on their skills and get the most out of their gear. Discover The Wonders of Cuba The UW Photo Trip to Gardens of the Queen, Cuba is a unique educational program designed to introduce the participants to the incredibly well preserved eco-system of Gardens of the Queen. Cuba UW Photo Trip 23 July 2016

Schedule Nov 4th - Arrival

• Transfers from Havana José Martí International Airport, located 9 miles from Havana to Parque Central, Havana. 30 min cab ride.

• Plans for the rest of the day are subject to arrival times of all guests.

• Hotel Parque Central check-in.

• Lunch at a local Cuban restaurant.

• A presentation about the history of Havana. Walk through Habana Vieja (Old Havana) and communicate with the locals to learn about the life in Havana from their own perspective. Group leader Ran Mor will operate as a translator. We will visit the Fortress of El Morro with a local guide.

• We will visit the 4 historic plazas in Havana which contribute to its reputation as one of the most unique architectural centres in the western hemisphere.

• Dinner at a local Cuban restaurant.

Nov 5th

• Early breakfast – 24 hour room service and check out - until 3:30am.

• Early AM Transfer to Boat Harbor Jucaro – 4:00am.

• 6 hour private bus ride.

• Stop at fruits and vegetable stands and meet with local farmers.

• Boarding the vessel - Avalon II.

• 4 hour Boat ride to Gardens of the Queen.

• First check dive in the afternoon.

Nov 5th – 12th -

• 7 nights aboard the Avalon II, 3 dives a day.

• Meet with Cuban marine experts to gain insight into the conservation measures that Cuba is taking to preserve their delicate aquatic ecosystem in the Gardens of the Queen.

• An underwater photography workshop is offered during the trip, helping participants to document the wonders of the marine park in the best way possible.

Nov 12th –

• Early breakfast.

• Check out from vessel.

• Transfer from Boat Harbor Jucaro to Havana José Martí International Airport or central Havana, subject to departure time of the flights of all guests - 6 hour drive in a private bus. Arrival to Havana approx. at 1pm.

• Flight back home.
