Fantasy Baseball Top 2010 Rookies

The 2010 season figures to have a bumper crop of mid-season call ups. Fantasy

baseball’s top 2010 rookies have arrived at the precipice of the majors in several

different ways. It will matter little how they got there once they start being

productive major league. And in the case of the players on this list, that shouldn’tbe too long.

Pedro Alvarez, Pittsburgh Pirates, Third Basemen – Considering that the Pirates

starting third basemen is the journeyman Andy Laroche, Alvarez (and his .535

slugging percentage at two different stops in 2009) should not get too acclimated to

life in Indianapolis.

Dominoc Brown, Philadelphia Phillies, Outfielder – Brown has taken baby steps

through the Phils’ minor league system but now appears ready to make a case for

staying in Philly. At the first injury (or sign of age from Raul Ibanez) Brown should

get the call and show the Phillies what they missed by sending him to the minors.

Madison Bumgarner, San Francisco Giants, Pitcher – They aren’t ready to call him

the next Tim Lincecum, but with a 27-5 record in his two minor league seasons, the

20 year-old has been simply dazzling.

Aroldis Chapman, Cincinnati Reds, Pitcher – Yes Chapman is young, but the Reds

didn’t pay the Cuban exile $30 million to pitch in Louisville. The only question about

Chapman is how good who will be in the short term.

Kyle Drabek, Toronto Blue Jays, Pitchers – Acquired from the Phillies in the Roy

Halladay trade, the son of former major leaguer Doug Drabek should find himself in

Toronto by June. He’s just too good to keep out of a very spotty Blue Jays’ rotation.

Jason Heyward, Atlanta Braves, Outfielder – The Braves first round pick from 2007

should not get too comfortable in Richmond. He was one of top fantasy baseball

rookies heading into 2010 and should be one of the best by the end.

Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants, Catcher – Posey has done nothing but impress

Giants’ management. His combination of power and average (.321 in AAA in 2009)

might force San Francisco into a decision with Bengie Molina.

Carlos Santana, Cleveland Indians, Catcher – The fact that the 24 year-old Santana

was sent down at all after having such a strong spring was a surprise to some.Especially considering that the Tribe don’t exactly have All-Stars playing ahead of

him in Cleveland.

Michael Stanton, Florida Marlins, Pitcher – The powerful Stanton figures to have a

space cleared for him in the Florida before very long. He has the type of pop in his

bat that is missing from the Marlins outfield.

Stephen Strasburg, Washington Senators, Pitcher – Strasburg is the rare player for

whom the hype might actually be true. He’ll be the best fantasy baseball top 2010

rookie pitcher in 2010 and maybe the best player.
