WHAT IS YOUR TAX ID NUMBER?Individual donors, sponsors, and local businesses may request the following numbers from you. Feel free to use these at any time!

Federal ID (aka “Tax ID,” Employer ID Number, or EIN): 27-1871182

Sales Tax ID (to remove state sales tax from items you’re purchasing for AMAR or an AMAR event): 350000076166

WHAT IS A W-9?A W-9 is a document from AMAR U.S. that states our Federal ID and address. Some businesses like to keep a copy of this on file as they make charitable contributions. You can find a copy of our W-9 in the resource section at the back of this toolkit.

CAN I USE THE AMAR LOGO? Absolutely! Please download our Identity Guidelines for more information about how to access and use our logo. You can also find photos and other resources in our online multi-media gallery at: http://amarfoundation.us.

COLLECTING DONATIONSNow that you know the basics, you can start collecting contributions. Use this FAQ guide to answer basic questions, and give us a call if anything else comes up!

I WANT TO HOST A FUNDRAISING EVENT. WHERE DO I START?For starters, make sure you read through all of our toolkits to find creative suggestions and event hosting tips. Consider starting an AMAR Supporters Circle - a group of people from the same city, committed to long-term support of AMAR’s work. Or partner with friends and family to help plan and launch your own event. Don’t forget to contact the AMAR staff and let us know what activities you have planned - we may be able to help!

HOW CAN I COLLECT DONATIONS?1. ONLINEInstruct donors to give directly via credit or debit card through the AMAR website.

For USD $ Donations http://amarfoundation.us

For GBP £ Donationshttp://amarfoundation.org

2. IN-PERSON: ON YOUR PHONEYou can take credit and debit card donations directly from your mobile device with a PayPal card reader and the PayPal app. Gifts will be direct-deposited to the AMAR bank account. Contact us for more info.

3. IN-PERSON: VIA CHECKPlease ensure checks are made out to: AMAR Foundation.

NOTE: Please contact your AMAR office ahead of your event for donation forms and envelopes. We ask that you please send us the sealed envelopes after your event to protect the anonymity of our donors.

4. IN-PERSON: CASHIf your donors want to give in cash, please collect all cash donations and convert the total amount into a money order, payable to: AMAR Foundation. You can easily do this at the post office or grocery store! Then mail the total amount plus the completed Donation Tracking Form (pg. 7) to your closest AMAR office.

CAN I DONATE NON-MONETARY GOODS TO AMAR?Unfortunately, at this time, AMAR cannot accept donations of in-kind items such as blankets and food. To insure that our efforts help rebuild the communities in which we work, we source relief materials locally in the countries where we work. When you make a financial contribution, you’re helping to ensure that AMAR has the resources on hand to respond quickly to emergencies and sustain long-term programs.

HOW WILL AMAR USE THE MONEY FROM MY FUNDRAISER?If you want to support a specific AMAR program, you can dedicate funds from your advocacy or fundraising event to a program of your choice. Please be sure to indicate your gift preference to an AMAR staff member.

If unspecified, your contributions will support AMAR’s general fund and will be used where needed most. AMAR seeks to operate efficiently and to minimize fundraising and admin costs whenever possible. We consistently dedicate 90% or more of our total resources to programs.

CAN I ASK THIRD PARTIES TO DONATE GOODS OR SERVICES FOR MY EVENT?Absolutely! In fact - we encourage it. Just make sure to keep the following guidelines in mind when organizing an auction or asking for third-party donations:

When seeking donated goods or services for an event, please moderate the attached In-Kind Donation Request Letter (pg.8).

AMAR is only able to issue tax receipts for goods and/or servies donated to raise money at auctions and other events when we receive the completed In-Kind Donation Recogni-tion Form (pg.9). Please complete and send all completed forms to your AMAR office as soon as your event or auction is complete.

NOTE: AMAR cannot issue a tax-deductible recognition letter to an in-kind donor without a signed copy of this form.

CAN YOU HELP DEFRAY THE COSTS OF MY EVENT?Yes. AMAR U.S. is able to cover the upfront costs for events that are well planned and have a detailed budget, but we reserve the right to determine which events we choose to support in this manner.

>>

>>

CAN YOU HELP ME ORGANIZE MY EVENT?We’re here to help in any way that we can. If you need a sounding board to help finalize event plans or want recommendations on how to improve your event, please get in touch with your closest AMAR office.

CAN YOU HELP ME SECURE A CELEBRITY GUEST FOR MY EVENT?Unfortunately, we are unable to provide contact information for celebrities with which we are associated.

NOTE: If you would like AMAR’s Founder, Baroness Nicholson, to speak at your event, please contact your local AMAR office at least 6 months in advance. While we cannot guar-antee her availability, an advance notice will be thoughtfully considered.

CAN AN AMAR U.S. REPRESENTATIVE ATTEND MY EVENT?Given enough notice, an AMAR staff member or volunteer may be available to attend your event.

TRACKING DONATIONSYou understand the basics and you’re starting to collect contributions.1 Now what? Here are some quick answers to questions about how AMAR prefers to thank donors and track contributions.

A DONOR WANTS A TAX RECEIPT FOR THEIR GIFT...HOW DOES THAT WORK?AMAR U.S. is a 501(c)(3) registered charity and all donations are tax deductible. A Tax receipt is a letter issued to a donor by AMAR U.S. as proof of their contribution. We will generate a tax receipt for all monetary donations given directly to AMAR U.S.

If you would like us to send a tax receipt to donors who made a financial or in-kind contribution at your event, please complete and return the Donation Tracking Form (pg. 7) and/or the In-Kind Donation Recogni-tion Form (pg. 9).

WHAT QUALIFIES AS A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION? Donors cannot receive goods or services in return for their tax-deductible gift. Direct donations to a campaign or gifts made during an ask at an event qualify as tax-deductible. However, money received for ticket payments, auction items, t-shirts, etc. will not qualify as fully tax-deductible.

NOTE: For events with an anticipated revenue of $10,000 or more, please work with your closest AMAR office to manage financial accounting.

DO I NEED TO KEEP TRACK OF THE DONATIONS THAT I COLLECT?Please do! And then share the information with your closest AMAR office. It’s always good to keep track of your donations. Here’s why:

To thank individual donors for their support and/or for attending your event

To contact donors again for future events

To know which events and campaigns are the most successful

To help AMAR understand where your fundraising gifts are coming from

HOW DO I KEEP TRACK OF DONATIONS?You can easily keep track of donations electronically with our downloadable spread-sheet at: bit.ly/amar-resources or print out our Donation Tracking Form (pg. 7) and take notes on the night of your event. Just mail or email the completed form to the AMAR office after your event. Or create an excel spreadsheet using the form as a guide to track donations electronically.

<BUSINESS NAME><ADDRESS><CITY, STATE, ZIP>

Friends at <BUSINESS NAME or CONTACT NAME>,

I’m writing today on behalf of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation, for which I am a volunteer. AMAR has been providing sustainable services to refugees, internally displaced people and underserved communities in the Middle East and South Asia since 1991. They create lasting solutions to global challenges by using a wholly native workforce to deliver healthcare, emergency aid and educa-tional programs to communities in urgent need.

We’re on a mission to rebuild lives, but after 25 years in the field, we know that we can’t do it alone.

Will you consider supporting AMAR’s work by donating <DONATION REQUEST> for our <EVENT NAME>? We will be hosting the event at <VENUE> in <CITY> on <DATE>. All of the proceeds raised at this event will help support <BRIEF PROGRAM SUPPORT INFO>. We anticipate <# OF GUESTS> from our extended network of <GUEST DEMOGRAPHICS> from the <CITY> community to attend.

Thanks to the generous support of in-kind donors like you, our <DATE OF LAST EVENT> event raised over <AMOUNT RAISED> in support for AMAR’s programming—drastically enhancing AMAR’s ability to transform the lives of the families, communities, patients, and students they support around the world.

Again, we hope you will join us in rebuilding lives by supporting our <EVENT NAME> with a gift of <DETAILED REQUEST>. As a contributor, you will receive recognition via <DETAIL RECOGNI-TION OPPORTUNITIES (printed logo, name recognition, social media, vocal recognition at event, etc.>, as well as a written receipt of your tax-deductible donation. This is a great opportunity to high-light your business and showcase your commitment to philanthropy to a wide array of people in and around the <CITY>!

If you are able to support our event with a donation, please take a moment to fill out and return the attached donation confirmation form by <DEADLINE>. For additional information, please contact me directly via <YOUR CONTACT DETAILS>.

Thank you for your generous consideration of support. We would love to feature <BUSINESS NAME> in our upcoming event!
