Far Forest Countryside Show
Wizard of Oz
Scarecrow Competition
RULES
The Far Forest Countryside Show has been an annual event since 1902 with
attractions for all the family. This year our theme is The Wizard of Oz and thank
you for taking an interest in participating in the scarecrow competition. The
completed scarecrows will be an integral part of our
‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’ tractor ride.
Your Scarecrow
There aren’t many rules as to how you have to build your scarecrow.:
You must include some straw—it wouldn’t be a
scarecrow otherwise!
Your scarecrow must fit in the theme of The Wizard of
Oz, but can be any of the characters.
Your scarecrow needs a name—this is how it will be
identified in the programme and labelled when
in place.
The finished scarecrow must be at least 1m in height.
Entry
There are 3 categories: Individual Child; Family or Class/Group.
All entrants must submit a registration form by 5pm on Friday 21st June 2019.
Forms are available from www.farforestshow.co.uk
Each child named on the registration form will receive a 1 day ticket for the
show valid when accompanied by a paying adult (Max 2 free children per adult).
Tickets will be issued once the scarecrow is securely in place.
Displaying your scarecrow
Bring your scarecrow to the Far Forest Showground at
Callow Hill between 3pm and 6pm on Friday 9th August.
You will be allocated the space to set up your scarecrow
(this cannot be changed).
It is your responsibility to ensure your scarecrow is set up
securely and will not topple over. The committee reserves
the right to adjust or remove any scarecrow, or part of the
display, should it be deemed to be unsafe at any point over
the weekend.
All scarecrows must be collected from the ground between 5pm and 7pm on
Sunday 11th or between 9am and 3pm on Monday 12th August.
Any scarecrow not collected will be disposed of.
Judging
Judging will occur between 7pm and 8pm on Friday 9th August
2019.
Judges will score each scarecrow on the following criteria:
Interpretation of the theme
Originality
Artistic and creative merit
Each criteria will be marked out of 10. In the event of a tie the judges will use
their discretion to decide the winner.
There is 1 prize in each category.

By submitting a registration form and displaying your scarecrow you confirm
that you accept these rules.
The Far Forest Society Show Committee and judges interpretation of these
rules is final and cannot be challenged.
These rules may be subject to change without warning.
