Northmore (3) (1) Monarch Geophysical Services (2) Faroe Petroleum (UK) Ltd (3) GDC UK Faroes Conference September 2006 Licence 012 (Rannv) In 2005 Faroe Petroleum licensed seismic data (YMR97) over the Wyville- Thompson ridge from Fugro-Geoteam. A test line was processed by Fugro to better understand the issues affecting data quality in this area. After the reprocessing, decision then taken to acquire new data Acquisition of 200 km of 2D new seismic long offset data completed in June 2005 processed November 2005 Re(re)-processing of 2 lines from the (YMR97) data with different processing Faroes Conference September 2006 Key points learned Lessons learned are not a general panacea Processing should be considered specific to the area Over the W-T ridge the Basalt is present at the sea-bed, and of 700 1000m thickness. Faroes Conference September Seismic data reviewed With the lessons learned in the processing of the 2005 data, it was decided to reprocess 2 lines from the 1997 data applying these lessons. YMR will be shown Faroes Conference September 2006 NW YMR Original seismic, acquisition & processing Faroes Conference September 2006 NW Much better structural detail through here YMR Original seismic, acquisition & re(re)-processing Faroes Conference September 2006 Rannv Survey Conclusions Reflectors beneath the base of the basalt can be imaged with a combination of careful attention to detail in acquisition & processing parameters Maximise the signal:noise ratio Focusing the energy with restricted bandwidth gives a better signal to noise in the structural target zone Faroes Conference September 2006 Acknowledgements Acknowledgements:- Faroe Petroleum Pete Northmore & John Makin at GDC for their many helpful conversations, professionalism and tea & biscuits.
