It was not meant for anyone or any businesses on Long Island, it was about someone else and another publication completely and we apologize to the person who thought is was about them and their new job with a new publication. We here at Fast Lane Biker NY are happy when our friends expand their business and brand, we wish the best for them always. We don’t subscribe to the notion that if you're friends with one publication you can't be with another or cover the others event, that’s childish. A Virginia State trooper pulled a car over on I-64 about 2 miles south of the Virginia-West Virginia state line. When the trooper asked the driver why he was speeding, the driver said he was a magician and juggler and was on his way to Beckley, WV, to do a show at the Shrine Circus. He didn’t want to be late.

The trooper told the driver he was fascinated by juggling and said if the driver would do a little juggling for him then he wouldn’t give him a ticket. He told the trooper he had sent his equipment ahead and didn’t have anything to juggle. The trooper said he had some flares in the trunk and asked if he could juggle them. The juggler said he could, so the trooper got 5 flares, lit them and handed them to him.

While the man was juggling, a car pulled in behind the pa-trol car. A drunken good old boy from West Virginia got out, watched the performance briefly, then went over to the patrol car, opened the rear door and got in. The trooper observed him and went over to the patrol car and opened the door asking the drunk what he thought he was doing.

The drunk replied, ‘You might as well take my ass to jail, ‘cause there ain’t no way I can pass that test

When we were dressed and ready to go out for the New Years Eve Party, we turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on, covered our pet parakeet and put the cat in the backyard. We phoned the local cab company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and we opened the front door to leave the house.

The cat that we had put out in the back yard, then suddenly scooted in through the front door. We didn’t want the cat shut in the house because she always tries to eat the bird. My wife went out to the taxi, while I went inside to get the cat. The cat ran upstairs, with me in hot pursuit!

Waiting in the cab, my wife did not want the cabdriver to know that the house will be empty for the night. So, she explained to the cab driver that I would be out soon, ‘He’s just going upstairs to say goodbye to my mother.’

A few minutes later, I got into the cab. ‘Sorry I took so long,’ I said, as we drove away. ‘That stupid bitch was hiding under the bed. I had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out! She tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck... Then, I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked! I hauled her fat ass downstairs and threw her out into the back yard!”

However the best cooking of the day goes to Lucky 777 Chili by Louis Santangelo. This chili has won a TON of awards, rightfully so and with a little luck it will be in stores soon so keep an eye out for it.

Finally, the best words of the day came from one of NRHD’s favorite customers as she picked out a new bag for her Softail for an upcoming trip, 68 year old Ann L. of the Bronx, will be rid-ing solo this summer to Nova Scotia says “Keep riding, ride as much as you can, it keeps you

young.”. Have fun Ann, ride safely, bring us back something good!

Well, the summer is half over but the riding season has a ways to go, and bike nights at the Tack Room just keep getting better. If you have not been able to come to one, you don’e know what you are missing.

Besides, the amount of awesome people, motorcycles, and girls that really know how to party, we always have the very fine Kim and Marie behind the bar. Those girls are always hustling to keep everyone’s thirst quenched to the rockin’ sounds of Sea Monster.

This month we got a little funky with the trophys. Looking around the parking lot, I no-ticed some unique bikes and decided to go in a completely different direction. Ray, who any-one in the motorcycle world knows, won ‘The Bike with the Most Stuff.’ If I have to explain this one, you wouldn’t understand. Archie of Kickstart Towing won ‘The Bike with the Least Amount of Miles’ (a ‘99 Dyna with 37 miles). There’s nothing wrong with your eyes, that’s right, only 37 miles. The Spider won ‘The Bike with the Most Wheels’ and, again, self explan-atory. Getting back to business, ‘Best Chrome’ went to Bronco. The ever special ‘Best Rep-resented Club’ was taken home by Sovereign Brotherhood M.C. That’s two times running now guys, thanks for the support!

On a separate note, don’t forget the cops are still breaking balls about helmets. I guess they have nothing better to do. So, come on down to Big Boar Cycles and pick up the smallest D.O.T. helmets in town, only $39.99. We’ve got some great new colors to choose from. AIR SHOCKS... DOES THE THEORY HOLD AIR? Well, the last thing we have to do on this custom ride, is change the existing air shocks to a newer, better set up. For once, it should be a simple job. we`ll see what happens. this bike has a PROGRESSIVE SHOCK set up on it, that kinda works, and kinda don’t. The first problem is, you have to find a place to put the compressor. As small as it is, it still ain’t small enough to find a place where it can go where you can’t see it, but still get at it with some ease to work on it to hook it up. Second thing is, you have to connect the pump to the shocks, the valves to control up and down, and a switch to make it all happen. Just too much shit to be running all over your custom scooter without you seeing at least some of it, forget about working on it. The problem is, all the small plastic air lines you need to connect everything. Don’t get me wrong, when these first came out, they were the cats ass, but leaked air all the time so you never knew exactly where you are in ride height. Not good to have your suspension lose air, and have your tire start rubbing on your rear fender, and burn the paint off while you’re puttin’ down the road. I have seen this happen, and man were the owners pissed off. That usually happens when whoever set them up did not set the rear up so it bottoms out on the stops first, before the tire hits the fender, not to mention that whole safety thing. But it does happen. So, the first thing is to get it up on the operating table, jack it up from there to get at the shocks and the bolts. In this case, they bolted the air pump to a mount on the swing arm, right above the rear shock mounts. What a pain in the ass to get at this thing, worry about it in a bit. Let the air out of the shocks first. Put something under the rear tire for support and jack it up or down to find the neutral position of the shocks where they are not loaded in either direction. Then proceed to take the bolts out, one side at a time. This can be a bitch. A lot of guys put Red Locktite on these bolts so they don’t come loose and it sucks getting them out. I use Blue Locktite and never had any come loose, but it is sure easier to get the bolts out when you need to. So, now one shock is off and the other is hanging by the air lines. Cut the lines and that is that. Remove the air pump, which is a project all it’s own, with all the wiring, and things are done down here. The valves on this bike are under the frame at the end of the gas tank, at the front of the seat. Take the seat off, pull all the rest of the air lines off at the valves. Pull

the fuse from the wiring and ya’nk the switch out. I left the two valves in the holes ‘cause the fittings where welded to the frame, and I did not want to see the holes. Now we’re cooking. The rest is real easy. The new setup, from CUSTOM CYCLE CONTROLS, is a one piece setup, meaning that both shocks are


in one housing. As in the picture, it really is a nice setup. First, unravel the wires and snake them up to the battery area under the seat, let them hang out for a while. Next, the unit has an air intake tube to be installed on the shocks, so, pop that on and run it up to the same area under the seat. On this setup, the air compressor, the valves, and solenoids are all inside the housing. Pretty sweet. Someone used thier head for something else than a hat rack!! All there is to connect is four wires. Two go to ground, one is for upscope, the other is for downscope. Just plain simple, the way it should be. Put the new switch in, connect the hot wire to the center terminal, one to each other terminal, and the wiring is done. So, back to the shock setup. They tell ya’ to bolt the bike end of the setup in first with just a bolt and a washer on the outside. Do not space the shock to the frame with washers. They want it to float so it moves easy. Now you have to set your ride height up by adjusting the rods on the shock itself. With the shock retracted all the way in to the body, adjust the ends to length for ride height, but leave everything loose. Bolt them up to the swing arm, hit the switch, and let the suspension down, and check for clearance to the rear fender, and the stops. Adjust the rod ends where you need them to be so up is where you want it and down is where it needs to be. It takes a little more time than that, but you get the drift. If all is cool, tighten all the nuts on the rod ends, make sure the bolts to the frame and the swing arm are tight, too. Tie up the wires and the air intake hose under the seat. The air intake hose comes with a little filter for the end under the seat. The reason they want it there, is to keep water and road crap out of thier nice compressor. With all that done, you should be able to run the unit up and down, and check it out to make sure everything clears and works without binding. A little note here... If the swingarm end of the setup does not align with both bolt holes, you have a problem with swing arm alignment, and that is another issue. You can’t force this unit to match up the bolt holes. It will damage the unit, and you are on you own!!!!! When all is well and set up properly, this setup works very well, and are the best riding air shocks I have put in to date. A little pricey, but you can’t take it with ya’. So that’s the scoop on that one. Hope you all had a nice holiday and all is well. (Sounds a little wierd, I’m writing this and the holiday ain’t even here yet, or maybe I missed it!) Anyhow, see ya’ at the show in January, should be really cool! The boss is on the stick this year! We arrived in Alexandria Bay on Thursday to take advantage of all the great activities it has to offer. We started out with one heck of a BBQ by Mary and Carl, and had a great time catching up with Vince Doll, Merlon, Pops, Mary, and her family. Carl can BBQ like no other, while the little Diva needed her Dasani water… You know who you are. After dinner, Nancy and I had some drinks at Skiffs and the Downtown Bar and decided to call it a night.

Friday we set up early and talked with all the vendors. I was blown away by the view from everywhere in ABay; especially where our booth was located under the Pavilion. WOW! We walked around town and all the locals were so nice and biker friendly. I couldn’t believe this is the town the HOG Rally turned down for 2011, what a loss to the NY state bikers. Maybe in 2012 they will get it. Also on Friday night, Debbie, John, Merlon, Melodie, Vince, Carla, Larry, Buck, Vince’s grandsons, Nancy and I went to the Admiral Inn for dinner. They had great food and drinks and a nice patio. We went out for a few afterward, but needed to get rest for the big day ahead.

Saturday morning at the Downtown Bar, I met up with the famous Sedrick Mitchell and Big J.W., who lent me a big helping hand in doing the photo shoot of motorcycles and models. We shot Buck’s black rose motorcycle from Cross Roads Custom Rides, Pat Briggs’ new Twisted, and a Frisco Style Chopper I pulled off the street from Richard Lee. Thanks to Merlon from B&M Performance for the lighting equipment. You will see all the photos real soon, stay tuned. It rained a little, but you would never know it, these bikers weren’t going to let a little rain stop them. As you looked out, they were still walking around and having fun. The rain stopped in a few hours and the party was on.

We started off Saturday night by having a Miss Fast Lane Biker-Alex Bay Contest at Skiffs Bar. The girls and guys went wild and the winner was Dodi Gromer from Syracuse. There was also a men’s and women’s tattoo contest and the main street was packed. We walked around and talked to people and had drinks and a great time. Thanks to all the people we talked to, who told us they loved Fast Lane Biker NY.

Sunday came too quickly. We all seemed to move a little slower that day from the late night before. We met many new friends. This event is one of the best events, with the best atmosphere I have ever been to besides our own Rally at the Rock. We’re talking bikes, views, bars, the river, boat tours, jet skis, nice area to ride through, a town that is 100% biker friendly, great locals, a down town street party, and a great host - Mary. I’m hooked. We are plan-ning to go up for the Pirate Festival in August and the Blues Fest in September. The Fast Lane:Grilled Rosemary Potatoes . Submitted by: Lilly Belmont, NJ

Ingredients:2 pounds red potatoes - washed and quartered3 sprigs fresh rosemary - stemmed and chopped1/3 cup olive oil salt and pepper to taste Directions: Place all ingredients except the potatoes in a mixing bowl. Stir to combine. Add the potatoes and stir until all of the potatoes are covered with the oil mixture. Heat grill to medium. Place the potatoes in a vegetable grill rack or you can place a piece of tin foil directly on the grill and grill the potatoes on top of that. If using tin foil, be sure to spray it with a non stick cooking spray before adding the potatoes. Grill for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Grilled Peaches . Submitted by: Patty Drake, NYIngredients:4 fresh peaches4 teaspoons olive oil4 tablespoons honey4 scoops of vanilla ice cream or flavor of choice Directions: Preheat grill to medium heat and brush the grates with oil. Wash each peach and cut them in half. Remove the pit from the peach. You may have to use a spoon to pry under the pit and loosen it. Brush the cut side of the peach with olive oil. Place peaches on the grill cut side down. Grill for 3-5 minutes or until the peaches start to soften and show nice grill marks. Serve with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of honey.

Grilled Vegetables . Submitted by: Brenda Cahill, PAIngredients: Cilantro Sauce:1 cup packed cilantro leaves, approximately 1 bunch1/2 cup packed parsley leaves1/3 cup chopped scallions1 clove garlic 2 teaspoons lime juice1/2 cup plain yogurt1/2 cup sour creamSalt and pepper to tasteGrilled Vegetables:4 tablespoons olive oil 1 clove garlic, finely minced1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger root 1 package cherry tomatoes 2 small zucchini-cut into 1/2” chunks1 red onion, quartered and separated into 3 layer pieces2 ears of fresh sweet corn, cut into 1/2” rounds 1 1/2 baby squash, seeded and cubedSalt and pepper to taste Directions: Soak 12 wooden skewers in water for one hour. For Cilan-


tro Sauce: In food processor, combine cilantro, parsley, scallions, garlic, and lime juice. Purée until finely chopped. Add yogurt and sour cream and purée until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper. For Skew-ered Vegetables: Preheat grill or grill pan. In a small bowl, stir together olive oil, garlic, and ginger root. Arrange vegetables on 12 skewers and baste with the oil mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Grill vegetables, basting occasionally, until browned and tender. (Approximately 10-12 minutes.) Serve with cilantro sauce.

Lemon Soy Steak . Submitted by: mickyparks, PAIngredients:2 medium lemons2 tablespoons soy sauce1 tablespoon olive oil1 garlic clove, crushed with garlic press1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper1 boneless beef top sirloin steak, 1 1/4 inches thick, about 1 1/2 poundsFrom 1 lemon, remove 3 strips peel, 3 inches by 1 inch each. From both lemons, squeeze 1/3 cup juice. Directions: In bowl, mix lemon peel, lemon juice, soy sauce, oil, garlic, black pepper, and ground red pepper. Pour marinade into large self seal-ing plastic bag; add steak, turning to coat. Seal bag, pressing out excess air. Place bag on plate; refrigerate 30 minutes. Remove steak from bag. Pour marinade into 1 quart saucepan and reserve. Place steak on grill over medium heat and cook 12 to 15 minutes for medium rare or until of desired doneness, turning once. Serves 6.

The Sweet Lane:Marcie’s Candy Bar Pie . Submitted by: Marcie Palmer, NJ.Ingredients:1 1/4 cups cold milk2 (3.9 ounce) packages JELL-O Chocolate Flavor or Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling Mix:1 (8 ounce) tub COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided4 (1.5 ounce) bars chocolate candy, cut into 1/4-inch pieces, divided1 ready-to-use chocolate flavor crumb crust (6 oz. or 9 inch) Directions: Beat milk, pudding mixes and 1/2 of the whipped topping in medium bowl with wire whisk 1 minute. (Mixture will be thick.) Reserve 1/4 cup of the candy bar pieces; stir remaining pieces into pudding mix-ture. Spoon into crust. Spread remaining whipped topping over pudding mixture; sprinkle with remaining candy pieces. Serve immediately or re-frigerate until ready to serve.

Pam’s Pie . Submitted by: Pam Russo, NY. Ingredients:1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, with juice1 cup sugar1 cup light corn syrup2 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour1/2 cup flaked coconut1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries3 eggs, beaten1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 (9 inch) unbaked deep dish pie crust1/4 cup butter, melted Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a bowl, mix the pineapple with juice, sugar, corn syrup, and flour. One by one, mix in the coconut, macadamia nuts, cherries, eggs, and vanilla. Scoop the filling mixture into the crust. Drizzle the pie with the melted butter. Bake loosely covered with foil for 30 minutes in the preheated oven. I like to sit my pie on a cookie sheet or something in case of spillage. Remove foil, and continue baking 30 minutes. Cool, and chill 2 to 3 hours in the refrigerator before serving.

If you ride alot. there will probably come a time when unfortunately, you will get stuck. For me, July will be remembered as the month of the bad carburetor.

It was a warm sticky night, with thunder clouds rolling in, and I WAS STRANDED! The day had started out fantastic, full sun, tropical breeze, bike looking like a million bucks, full tank raring to roll..........and me with a huge smile cruising down Sunrise Hwy ! I’m sure everyone has a vivid mental picture LOL.

Suddenly, the carburetor goes south on me, and I was just about able to get to the side of the road. Gas was pouring out everywhere, and the skies were getting dark. As a seasoned rider, I knew there was no “quick fix”, and certainly not on the side of the road with all this heavy rain coming. So there I was, stuck on Long Island, on a Sunday eve-ning, with a torrential rain storm on the way... I pulled out my cell phone and took out the business card for KICKSTART TOWING, that had been in my wallet forever. KICKSTART had a “live person” answer the phone, (which is on I found out 24/7) and was informed there was no price difference for weekends or evenings. They quickly took down my information and told me with traffic it might be 30 minutes, and to make sure I was safe and away from the road. I made a call to my wife, to tell her happened and I look up and there’s this custom hearse pulling up in front of my busted ride. This guy comes out, smiling , and tells me “Hope its okay I’m early.” “Hell yeah its okay” I tell him, and before I knew it, my ride is loaded up and ready to go and I’m riding shotgun in this really cool car. The whole set up and excellent service put a bright spot on a day gone wrong! Their unique vehicle makes a great “event market” that lets everyone know the location of a biker event and most importantly- NO FEAR OF BEING STRANDED!
