Comic Book Creationsinstructor Nicole Parcher, Visting ArtistCalling all comic book lovers! Make your own comic book, using your imagination to create heroes and villains with untold super powers. Cooking Up a Storyinstructors Nyesha and AshleyRoll-up those sleeves, fasten those aprons, but wait...we can't forget to read! Children will be able to explore the world of cooking through a single story. This FAT phenomenon brings stories to life; transforming into tasty, sweet, and yummy eats. CATS TennisBe part of this innovative program that allows us to offer tennis instruction right here at Friends! Perfected by veteran tennis professionals and child education specialists, CATS lessons and exercises are carefully tailored to support children's physical and motor skill development. Children will learn how to swing, volley and use proper footwork. With a focus on fair play and positive attitude, students will play real games each week. Limited enrollment.Open to K–3rd graders. Karma Kids Circus YogaCircusYoga blends the consciousness of yoga with the communal celebration of circus. Skate Club≥off-campus instructor Kevin Banahan, Skate YogiIn the third trimester, the FAT skateboarding club transitions from indoors to outdoors. For March and April, hop on the bus to Skate Brooklyn for a private session at the indoor mini half-pipe and skate facility in Park Slope. In May and June, we'll be skating the Friends rooftop with a new arrangement of ramps and obstacles each week. There's something for everyone whether you're a seasoned thrasher or just starting out--no experience necessary. For beginners, we will cover the basics of skateboarding such as balance, pushing and turning. The more advanced can learn to shred the ramps, ollies, grinds and other tricks. Skateboard, pads and helmet required. Group will return at 5:30 p.m.

Bladinginstructor Matt Schlee, Hockey FanaticOne of the safest sports around and a proven workout, FATsters have the opportunity to join the blading craze by learning the moves from an "inline" pro! Basic skating instruction will include striding, turning, stopping, crossovers and much more. Blades, helmets, and pads required.

NY Empire Baseball≥off-campusStudents will be grouped by age and skill, and engage in a series of lessons and games throughout the season. The lessons include baserunning, throwing, pitching, catching, hitting, infielding, outfielding, in addition to on-field communication and situational awareness. NY Empire Baseball has a unique culture, built around hustle, hard work and teamwork. Lessons in respect, honesty, discipline, and work ethic are woven into the fabric of everything we teach. Program will be held in Central Park and Empire’s Indoor Arena at 243 W60th Street. Children will return to school at 5:30pm.Open to 1st- 4th graders.TRANSPORTATION AND PROGRAM FEE: $650

Karma Kids Everything Yoga!All the yoga fun with a focus on our favorite themes for each class! Every week, we’ll have a different theme—Circus Yoga, Partner Yoga, Butterfly Yoga, Group Yoga, American Doll Yoga, Yoga Games, and more! All of our favorite parts of yoga will culminate in an amazing show that we’ll collectively prepare for grownups at the end of the trimester. This is the ultimate yoga experience! Come, Play, Yoga! Child’s Play NY: Roald Dahl on StageJoin us as we explore the wild and wondrous worlds of our favorite children’s author! We rehearse a fully staged production of a Roald Dahl book and delve into acting technique, comedic timing and character development. Song and spoken-word poetry also by Dahl will augment our rehearsal process. Class will end at 4:45pm.Open to 2nd-4th graders.WORKSHOP FEE: $250

Ceramicsinstructor Nicole Parcher, Visting ArtistPinch, roll, carve, model—explore and push the limits of clay’s structural properties. Dazzling Discoveries Hands-on ScienceLaunch a rocket, erupt a volcano, create a science circus, dig for dinosaur bones, make and reveal invisible ink, design and test cars and flying objects—discover the physical world through these and other exciting projects with Dazzling Discoveries’ hands-on science program. Through kid-friendly experiments and projects, students explore magnetism, chemical reactions, air pressure, outer space, animal habitats, the human body, flight, and other wondrous real-life topics. With enough participation, part singing will be introduced, along with popular songs and special youth-oriented choral arrangements. Healthy and natural development of the young person's singing voice is the underlying principle of the group.Open to 2nd–4th graders. WORKSHOP FEE $300

Dodgeballinstructor Kevin Banahan, Average JoeFinally, a sports game for the masses! Whether you like to charge the line with a CC Sabathia throwing arm or prefer to hide and wait with the sneakiness of a chess master, dodgeball offers fun and excitement to every style of player. We will mix it up by alternating between the three sets of rules—Army, Jailhouse and Elimination. Open to 2nd–4th graders.

Explore Engineering & Robotics + Dazzling DiscoveriesExplore and create using batteries, lights, motors, robotics devices, construction materials (Lego, Knex, etc.) and lots of recyclables (cardboard, bottles, egg cartons, old CDs, etc.). Using the principles of engineering mechanics and physics to understand how and why things work the way they do, students will learn problem solving, basic robotics, simple programming, design process and construction skills. Create unique interactive projects. Open to 3rd and 4th graders.WORKSHOP FEE $350

Chess Clubinstructor Peter Barkman, Chess MasterOpen to players of all levels. Beginners will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game, basic strategy and tactics. More advanced students will learn and study correct opening strategy, middle game planning and basic end game theory. Child’s Play NY: Mini Musical: Peter PanThis session introduces children to the world of the Broadway musical. We will “play” with the story, music and characters from the beloved Peter Pan and work on songs that are appropriate for developing voices and exciting to perform. Creative movement combined with choreography gives the students an artistic physical outlet. Theater games and artwork surrounding Peter and his crew, support the children’s understanding of how to create a character. Class culminates in a performance of our character-driven improvisations, songs and dances. Open to K-2nd graders.WORKSHOP FEE: $250.00

RegistrationRegistration form and payment are due February 16, 2015. Any registration received after will be processed only if space remains, and a late registration fee will be assessed.

Tuition aid is available. A maximum of 75% financial aid is available to those who receive aid for the academic year. Please call for details.

Children may drop or change a class within the first two weeks of the trimester. If space is available, children may add classes at any time but classes will not be pro-rated.

After March 13, 2015, refunds or credits will not be given for changes to enrollment status.

Classes may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.
