FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP

Last Weekend’s Sunday Collection

$3653

From Father Mike

As we acknowledge this weekend the important moment of graduation

for several of our high school seniors, it is also a special moment for their

families and for all of us who have watched them grow up. It’s exciting to

be able to begin seeing the realization of their potential as persons

created in God’s image and how they will be a part of the building up of

his Kingdom. Notice that I am not using the typical buzzwords where you

would “congratulate” graduates on their “accomplishments” and “wish”

them “success” and a “bright future.” I am not trying to say there is

anything wrong with these sentiments, but none of these words are

biblical or theological, and they all focus on the person’s individual efforts

or goals. Today’s feast of Pentecost reminds us that, with the gifts of the

Holy Spirit, we are all meant for much more than a brief lifetime of

personal triumphs. We are part of a much larger movement of Jesus’

continued mission of compassion, healing, and service to others. One

way to tell the difference is when you are notice various things that

someone has done versus seeing them as an instrument of God’s grace

and mercy. The former fills you with pride, but the latter fills you with a

sense of awe. May our young people continue to use their gifts and

talents for the glory of God and fill us with amazement at how Christ is a

work among us.

No
