Fazer will be the first company in the world to produce xylitol from oat hulls. Xylitol will be produced from Fazer Mill’s natural non-GMO oat hulls. The technology is novel and patents have been filed. Construction work for the new manufacturing facility in Lahti, Finland started in February 2019 and Fazer Xylitol will be commercially available at the beginning of 2021. Fazer will be the only xylitol manufacturer producing xylitol from its own raw material. Fazer Xylitol will be produced from natural Finnish non-GMO oat hulls at the same site where milling takes place, which ensures the availability and quality of the raw material and end products. The process is a great example of a circular economy; i.e. how to utilise all parts of the oat and maximise resource utilisation. The part of the oat hull which is not needed in the xylitol process is used to produce bioenergy at the site. This means that energy related CO2 emissions from the whole site will be reduced. The combination of efficient logistics and reduced energy emissions makes Fazer Xylitol the most sustainable on the market. Fazer will be able to serve even the most demanding customers in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries by manufacturing different grades of xylose and xylitol from its natural raw material with world class quality systems. Available grades from production will be xylose and crystalline, milled and directly compressible xylitol. Benefits of Fazer Xylitol Natural, non–GMO Finnish oat hulls as raw material. A complete set of grades for end products in the food, cosmetics and pharma industries. State of the art technology with patents pending. The only backward and forward integrated xylitol producer – ensures availability and quality, as well as superior level of service to end customers and consumers. World class quality systems and sustainable production process. Leader in circular economy and sustainability – logistical chain the most efficient in the market.
