THE MUSIC STUDIOS
20 fully equipped music studios, 1 recording studio / 14 are rented by the hour or month, 5 are open to the resident musicians / the music studios are open 7 days / week
Mains d’Œuvres • organisation
The place is run by the Mains d’Œuvres Association (French equivalent for NGOs). It consists of 4 art departments (theatre, visual arts, dance and music). Each art department has its own coordinator.
Mains d’Œuvres holds weekly team meetings and one monthly meeting in order to discuss the contents of the projects. All important issues are discussed by the team and decisions are taken together.
The venue has 16 full-time and 7 part-time employees.
The venue is opened 7 days a week
Some 10,000 people attended at least a concert/performance/exhibition in 2007
Some 4,200 artists, resident or non-resident, used our spaces in 2007

Total annual budget is about 1,248,000€ out of which :

We believe that art is this sensitive invention which invites each individual to invent his own solutions creatively and to get some power back over his life, even more, to create one’s own life.

Mains d’Œuvres wants to :
create the best conditions for the emergence of inventive art forms and new experiences willing to link art, culture and society.
bring closer artists and inventive social initiatives
be a strong platform of resources (spaces, equipments, skills) for various art forms and organization
spread the use of free digital technologies for a greater public
train and spread expertise between artists, public, enterprises, students, cultural operators
be active internationally
Mains d’Œuvres • the activities
Mains d’Œuvres is a space for creation, research and exchange, a laboratory open to
experimentation. It offers residencies for young emerging artists working in the fields of performing arts, music, visual and digital
arts.
The venue organizes 2 festivals : Mal au Pixel (electronic arts) & Mo’FO (indie
rock).
The venue also hosts the the CRASlab, a research and resource center in real-time interactive
technologies.

Yearly, up to 5 companies take part to our 2 or 1-year residency program and up to 6 pieces are
presented publicly.
Mains d’Œuvres • dance
The dance residency programs are open to projects which are singular in their research as well as in their attempt to (re)question or rethink society and the art of choreography.
2 types of choreographic
residency-programs : long term (3 years) and project based (approx. 1 year) mainly conceived for young emerging choreographers
Mains d’Œuvres • visual arts
Currently, there are 9 visual artists residents and up to 6 topic-based exhibitions /year (lasting approx. a month each)
Expos are meant to be an open space, an interactive ground where the public is invited to discover the works in an active way.
