On Sunday night we’ll be having a worship service and then an Ice Cream
Social to officially welcome the Barnetts onto our staff and into our
church family. The worship will be at 6:00. The reception/social will be
immediately following. As we’ve done with previous new staff members,
we’re doing a “gift card shower.” If you can please purchase a gift card from a local restaurant or
Walmart or Kroger (you get the idea) and we’ll bless them with some resources to stock their pantry
and enjoy some time as a family as they try to settle into Hot Springs and the church. If you’d prefer
to give cash, we’ll have a basket for that too. Let’s give them a warm First Baptist welcome.
And while we’re talking about music ministry, let me encourage those of you who can to come give
the choir a try. Lee has a number of ideas and will be implementing them in the weeks and months to
come. Please don’t hide your gifts under a basket, invest them in leading worship to the Lord. Choir
meets at 6:35 on Wednesday evenings in the Choir Room.
As much as I’ve enjoyed our Summer Songs series, summer is over and it’s time to draw it to a
close. So we’ll close the series where Psalms closes—with a resounding note of praise. This Sunday
will be a praise service. Let me encourage you to be here. And why don’t you invite a friend to
come. One of the church’s best evangelistic tools is when people who don’t know Christ watch peo-
ple who do know Christ praise and worship Him. This communicates that God is alive, that Jesus is
real, that the Spirit moves among God’s people. Let’s see what God might do to inhabit His praises
this Sunday. See you then.
Your Pastor,
John

* * * * Some, but not all of the game changes you’ll see in this Upward season:
Only 2 parent/coaches allowed per team
No stealing off the dribble in the Kinder-garten coed division
All players receive trophies as end-of-season awards
Regulation size basketballs (28.5 girls; 29.5 boys) in 3rd
-4
th, 5
th-6
th grade divisions
Most of the changes are in the 5th-6th grade division, where NFHS rules apply with only slight modifica-tions:
Teams will have one 90-minute practice per week.
Games will consist of 4 quarters, 7 minutes long each with a 2-minute overtime.
Players will play a minimum of 1/2 of each game and must appear in both halves.
Jump ball will start the game and overtime.
We will play zone and man defense throughout the season with no armbands.
We will allow press defense (except when ahead by 15 points or more).
We have added a double-elimination end-of-season tour-nament.
We will record wins and losses. League standings set up the seeding for the end-of-season tournament.
Until we all fall down, Wallace
