We just had a month full of service for our church. August began with our church hosting a
baby shower for Brenda and John Long. Our fellowship hall was filled with great decorations and
tasty snacks. The parents-to-be received many different gifts that will come in handy in the near
future. Everyone enjoyed a time filled with excitement and joy as we wait for their newborn to ar-
rive!
Throughout August, we collected supplies for Spring Hope Elementary School. We donated
well over 700 items and $230. Our donations will go towards helping students at Spring Hope have
basic necessities in order to gain an education that will be with them throughout their lives. But our
help did not stop with the students. On Monday, August 18, the teachers and staff from Spring
Hope Elementary were treated to a wonderful lunch. I thank everyone who was involved in our
meal this year; from those who helped wash and bake potatoes, cleaning up, and showing your ap-
preciation for our guests. Our church has a long history of those who have taught in local schools.
We carry on their legacy by showing our support of not only donations, but through our prayers as
well. Please keep the students and teachers in mind weekly throughout the school year.
As we approach September, more opportunities are available to serve others:
North Carolina Baptist Missions Offering. This year’s theme is “Choose Now” with a $2.1 mil-
lion goal. Funds given to the offering supports NC Baptist Men, Church Planting, Mission Camps,
Associational Projects, and Mobiliza-
tion Ministry Projects throughout our
state.
Operation Christmas Child. We have
the opportunity to register a group for
working at their Charlotte, NC ware-
house. Volunteer days start the Tues-
day before Thanksgiving and go on un-
til the third week of December. Sign up by September 9 if you are interested in participating.
Friends of Children Volunteer Day at the Kennedy Baptist Children’s Home in Kinston, NC on
Saturday, September 13. This is a one-day mission event that everyone is invited to attend. Vol-
unteering opportunities include everything from landscaping, painting, and small carpentry pro-
jects to preparing food. We will need to meet at church by 7:00 AM so we can make it to regis-
tration at 8:30 AM. A free lunch will be served at noon! There will be another sign-up sheet for
this event as well. Please sign up by Sunday, September 7.
Will you take the time to consider what direction God may be moving you to help those in
need? Would that look like sorting through shoeboxes about to be shipped halfway around the
world? Could you see yourself working on projects for children at the Kennedy Home? Let us be
prayerful during September about how God would have us serve. Hopefully, our prayers will be put
into action.
In Christ, Kevin
