Its lively souks, ancient mosques and GrandSocco (market place) offer a different world, and it is agreat place to spend indulging personal tastes, unexpectedcuriosities and a colourful meeting point of old and new.

From Tangier you can visit the ancient dazzling city ofTetouan, is perched majestically on a cliff. This charminghilltop city is full of winding streets and is a true synthesisof Andalucian and Moroccan cultures.

Explore enchanting Tetouan, a city whichholds all the fascination you would expectfrom Morocco.

Tetouan is picturesquely situated on the nothernslopes of the Djebel Dersa mountain andoverhangs the fertile and green orchard filledvalley of the Oued Martil.

Tetouanis affectionately call their city ‘TheDaughter of Granada’ as it is dominatedarchitecturally by the Hispanic influence. You’llsee the odd mix of Spanish and Moorisharchitecture, white walled houses and green tiledroofs. Tetouan was built by Muslim refugees fromSpain in the 15 th century, and was expanded bythe Spanish government in the 20th century.

Begin your tour at the Souk el Hots, followed bythe Guersa El Kebira Square, with its traditionalfabric shops, and make a stop at the Place del’Usàa, where you will see some impressivearchitecture.

From here, you’ll have the opportunity to visit thelabyrinth of alleyways of the Médina. Due to itsrelatively small size, it offers visitors a chance toexplore without getting hopelessly lost. There are3 distinct sections of the Médina, the Andalucian,Jewish, and Berber sections, which now form apart of UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

A welcoming refreshment of mint tea and apastry will be served at a local restaurant to giveyou time for peaceful contemplation.

Finally you’ll view the exterior of the impressiveKing’s Palace before heading back to the ship.

Medieval Óbidos is an exceptional example ofa classic Portuguese walled village.

A maze of quaint cobbled streets, brightlypainted houses, and overflowing flowerpots, Óbidos is picture perfect. In fact, so romantic isÓbidos, that in 1282 the entire town was givenas a wedding present from King Dinis to his brideIsabel.

Encircled by medieval walls, Óbidos’centrepiece is an imposing 12th century castle. This former fortress and royal palace was recentlyvoted one of the ‘7 Wonders of Portugal.’ To helpyou get your bearings, you’ll embark on a short walking tour around some of the prettieststreets, passing the whitewashed church of SantaMaria.

Next, you’ll have free time to wander Óbidos atyour own pace.

Keen photographers are sure to love exploringthe hidden corners, with each twist and turnrevealing another photo opportunity.

For a spot of souvenir shopping, take a strollalong the town’s main street, Rua Direita. Hereyou’ll find an abundance of traditional shopsselling all kinds of crafts and delicacies, fromhand painted ‘azulejo’ tiles, to tasty localliqueurs. But perhaps you’d prefer to simply relaxin one of the tiny street café’s, and soak up thecharming atmosphere of this medieval town.

An opportunity to discover the birdlife of theTagus Estuary with an experiencedOrnithologist guide.

Lisbon is the only European capital that is locatednearby a rich and diverse bird and nature reserve. The Tagus Estuary is a wetland site ofinternational importance and is specificallycreated to protect wintering, passage and thebreeding populations of aquatic birds. Thegeography of the area also attracts a variety ofnon wetland birdlife.

The Tagus Estuary bird list includes more than250 species that can be sighted. In the wintermonths you can spot up to 12,0000 waders atany one time and in the summer the Estuary isalive with breeding species. During migratoryperiods it is not unusual to observe at least 100species in a day. The Estuary is abound withinter-tidal mud flats, salt pans, reed beds andcork oak woodlands which provide a widebiodiversity.

Your experienced Ornithologist guide hasextensive knowledge of the birdlife of Iberia andthe expertise to find those hard to find species.
