NURSE’S NOTES
April Showers bring May Flowers - When watching it rain, we some-times too quickly long for a return of the sunshine, without taking time to appreciate and thank God for the gift of WATER. We need to take time to pause and be grateful for water, realizing how essential it is to us, not just for May flowers, but for our health and very existence. The water cycle is constantly working. The sun evaporates water into the air from the lakes and oceans. As the air is saturated and cooled, clouds form. Then the water falls to the ground as rain or snow. The water then flows into the ground to the water table; into lakes, rivers, and streams; and back to the ocean. Then the cycle starts again. All life needs clean, fresh water to survive. You can go days without food but not without water. If you don't get the water you need, your body dehydrates. You can't live very long without water. Ninety-seven percent of the water on earth is in the ocean. The salt in the ocean water makes it unusable. Another two percent is frozen in the ice caps and glaciers on the earth. This leaves one percent of the water on earth available for us to use. There are many factors that affect the amount of water available for you. Where you live, the amount of rain that falls, and how water is collected and reserved all affect the amount of cool, clear water available. In addition to prayers of thanksgiving for this precious gift, be a good steward and be wise with your use of water. It is quickly becoming a scarcity in many areas of our country, especially in California and other southwestern states as well as around the world. Several factors affect the impact of drought on humans and other life forms, including the tim-ing of precipitation events, effectiveness of the rain that is falling (i.e., rainfall intensity and the number of rain events), characteristics of the built environment in the affected area, and local demand for water. If you have ever visited a “water-challenged” area of our country or in another coun-try, you begin to realize how precious is clean, running water. However the supply is not necessarily endless. As you are well aware, even Mis-souri has been recently suffering from drought conditions. To learn about water conservation tips, visit https://www3.epa.gov/region1/eco/drinkwater/water_conservation_residents.html. To learn more about the health of our drinking water, recreational and swimming water visit http://www.cdc.gov/healthywater. Parish nurse office hours are by appointment. Please call if you would like to come see me or talk with me about a health concern. Also, let us know if you or a family member is hospitalized or homebound and/or if you would like me to visit, pray with you and also assist you with ques-tions and health care concerns. Call or email me if you can help us with our Caring Neighbors ministry – more are always needed! You may contact me at 636-8159x369 or via email [email protected]. April Prayer Intention: Pray for all those who entered the Church this Easter that they may rejoice and persevere in their new faith and receive the graces needed to joyfully embrace their “new life in Christ.” Pray that we who are blessed in this country joyfully share our blessings with the poor and displaced of other countries. Also, pray that in our parish, we may be “of one heart and mind” in generosity, compassion and steward-ship as were the early Christians (see Acts 4:32-35).

Marriage Tip
“Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone.” (John 8:7) One can’t be married without noticing the other’s faults. Knowing our own faults, however, can help us be more gentle toward our spouse.
