Featured Employer Supporting Women in Trades:emPOWER Women in Trades program was thrilled to host The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) team who shared with our
participant’s trade related opportunities in the Forces. We had the opportunity to learn more about women in the Canadian Forces and their Careers paths. Topics included anything from career growth, trades offered, length of training, recruitment, work-life balance,
maternity leave, childcare, reserves and much more!
Did you know that CAF was one of the first military forces to allow women to serve in all occupations, and today is setting ambitious goals
to increase representation across all trades and ranks, and their training can be transferred to civilian life afterwards? To

Cohort 3.5Cohort 3 participants started in March of 2020, but regrettably had their class cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic. Determined to succeed, students from this group and a few new students were able to return for the new August 31st start date once SAIT labs reopened. Our brave women completed their training with SAIT on November 13, 2020 and the emPOWER team is happy to report they have all been placed at 4-week work experience terms with community partners! Join us in congratulating our resilient group of Cohort 3.5 women!
Cohort 4Cohort 4 students started training on October 5th and are currently doing blended virtual and in-class training at SAIT.
Participants will be learning the 5 trades emPOWER Program offers:
1) Heavy Duty Mechanics, 2) Plumbing/Pipefitting, 3) Carpentry, 4) Welding5) Ironworking.
With exposure to the above trades, it is our goal our women participants, will have an informed choice of the trade they are best suited to. Goodluck Cohort 4! We are cheering you on and can’t wait to see your projects as you grow and thrive in your trade careers!
