SWAN 10th Annual Conference Featured Keynotes Peter has been Chief Executive of Anglian Water Group since October 2013. He previously served as Managing Director from January 2010, and Chief Operating Officer from 2004. He was Chairman of Water UK from April 2012- October 2013 and is a Past President of the Institute of Water. Peter is a member of Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group, run by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. This influences at a national, EU and global level to reduce carbon emissions, and to champion resource efficiency in water, energy and other natural resources. Peter also works with Business in the Community as Chair of the Water Taskforce and has recently joined the Board of Trustees of WaterAid. Peter is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager, a Chartered Scientist and Chartered Environmentalist. In 2016 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Society of the Environment and an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, as well as Companion of the Chartered Management Institute. Peter has been Chief Executive of Anglian Water Group since October 2013.He previously served as Managing Director from January 2010, and ChiefOperating Officer from 2004. Since 2015, Andrew has been Advisor to the Board of EPAL, the largest waterutility in Portugal, serving Lisbon and the central region of the country. He currentlyheads the Leakage Management Department, encompassing water loss controlactivities, meter laboratory, inflow & infiltrations area as well as networkdiagnostics and modeling. His work has contributed to Lisbon becoming aEuropean success case for leakage control. Various external consultancy projectshave been undertaken with Portuguese utilities, as well as the EuropeanInvestment Bank, European Commission and World Bank. Prior to this, anacademic background at Stirling University was diverted into water loss control innorthern Portugal and then Atkins consultancy & Scottish Water.

Frederico Fernandes is the CEO of the municipal company responsible for themanagement of urban water cycle in the city of Porto. His main corporatefunctions include strategic planning, project sponsoring, performance indicatorsmonitoring, IT and innovation management, global budgeting and financeoversee, and institutional relationships. Joao has been working in the water sector for over 20 years, with experience inseveral roles (from technical to management positions, both in Portugal andabroad). As of 2014, Joao serves as AGS’s Chief Executive Officer and managesAGS operations/services in Europe, Brazil and Chile.  Joao holds a PhD in civilengineering focusing on strategic infrastructures and asset management in urbanwater services, as well as an MBA and a degree in hydraulics and waterresources related areas.

Reid joined Halifax Water in 1998 after ten years in consulting engineering. Heleads a department responsible for the “source to tap” operation of the watersupply system serving the Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, metropolitan area. Heis also responsible for utility-wide SCADA and OT services. Reid is responsiblefor Halifax Water’s award-winning water loss control program, lead serviceline replacement program, is the Industrial Research Chair at DalhousieUniversity, and is an Executive co-sponsor of the AMI implementation andcustomer portal projects. Reid is a former Vice President of the AmericanWater Works Association (AWWA) and is currently a member of its WaterUtility Council.

Tom Hickmann is a licensed professional engineer with more than twenty years ofexperience in numerous areas of Civil Engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Sciencein Civil Engineering from California State University Sacramento and an ExecutiveMasters in Public Administration from Portland State University. Tom has fifteenyears of experience in management of utilities and planning of infrastructure. Hehas brought new technologies into the infrastructure planning process to betterintegrate financial analysis and public engagement. Mark has almost 40 years’ experience as a professional engineer and GeneralManager in infrastructure delivery, with specialist expertise in water andwastewater. In his substantive role with the Corporation, Mark makes sure theorganisations services meet the needs of our more than 1.7 million customers’ inthe most efficient way. His teams look after asset management, bulk water andwastewater operations, capital works, Laboratory Services and River MurrayOperations. Prior to joining SA Water, Mark was employed with Kellogg, Brownand Root (KBR), most recently as its VP Water in the Infrastructure Business Unit.

Eva developed her career within theindustrial sector, mainly across international environments. She accumulated 15years of experience in strategy development, project management, and leading business with public and private entities. Eva earned an Agricultural EngineeringDegree from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), holds a BSc (Hons) inEnvironment Sciences at Coventry University (UK), and an MSc in IntegratedEnvironmental Management at Nottingham Trent University (UK).

Nigel has worked in business and IT roles across a range of competitive industriesfor more than 30 years. He has been with Northumbrian Water Group since 2015,joining as Transformation Programme Director. Starting in October 2016, Nigel tookup the role of CIO. He led the successful delivery of a Customer TransformationProgramme (ONCE) and today he leads the Intelligent Asset ManagementProgramme, with an overall ambition of making Northumbrian Water Group themost digital water company in the world.  Nigel is responsible for the innovationstrategy and execution across the Group. He helped create the Innovation Festival,attracting 3,000 participants from 734 organisations. Nigel is co-chair of our RetailJoint Venture, Wave and a member of the CBI’s Innovation Council.

Dukessa is the asset owner and manager responsible for planning, operating andmaintaining Auckland’s Stormwater Network and Small Water and WastewaterSystems. Achieving water quality and environmental improvements, in a highgrowth region with a changing climate, presents a diversity of challenges andopportunities to implement new and emerging smart water solutions. A CharteredProfessional Engineer (CPEng) and Fellow of Engineering NZ, she has over 20years experience, initially through consulting both in New Zealand and Europe,and then local government. Dukessa is and has been involved in many industrybodies having just completed six years on the board of WaterNZ, the final two aschair, is on the NAMS and WaterNZ technical committee.
