What: The Great Courses: American Military History: From Colonials to Counterinsurgents

Summary: A Rhodes Scholar and thinking man’s officer, Gen. Wesley Clark came to master all the tactics, strategy, and historical lore of the U.S. military, the world’s greatest fighting force. In American Military History: From Colonials to Counterinsurgents, he explores the full scope of the nation’s armed conflicts, from the French and Indian War in the mid-18th century to the Global War on Terrorism in the 21st, covering more than 200 years of American diplomacy and warfare. These 24 absorbing half-hour lectures chart the remarkable growth of the United States into the most powerful nation on Earth, thanks in large part to its talent for rising to the occasion when called to war. We will watch two lectures and then have a discussion period afterwards.

What: Flagler Museum Live Lecture: “The Second Line of Defense: American Women and World War I” When: Sunday, March 4th at 3:00PM Where: La Sala Grande Summary: (This is a live stream of a lecture at the Flagler Museum.) Dr. Lynn Dumenil will focus on popular culture images and occupations of women in World War I and the conventional notions of womanhood that suggested the continuing power of expectations about women's traditional roles in the family.

What: Miami City Ballet: Program Three When: Sunday, March 4th at 12:15PM Where: Meet in Lobby Summary: Program Three juxtaposes the old and the new, featuring George Balanchine’s classic masterpiece Theme and Variations, with soaring music by Tchaikovsky, as well as Jerome Robbins’ lighthearted The Concert (Or, the Perils of Everybody), universally acclaimed as the funniest of all comic ballets. This program also features a world premiere by contemporary choreographer Brian Brooks, with a commissioned score by American composer Michael Gordon.

What: Beach Sea Glass Hunt & Picnic Lunch

When: Thursday, March 1st at 12:00PM

Where: Meet in Lobby Summary: Naturally produced sea glass originates as pieces of glass from broken bottles, broken tableware, or even shipwrecks, which are rolled and tumbled in the ocean for years until all of their edges are rounded off, and the slickness of the glass has been worn to a frosted appearance. Join Danielle for a nice picnic lunch and then its off on a hunt for sea glass at the Juno Beach Pier.

What: David Pedraza Cello & Violin Duo When: Friday, March 2nd at 5:30PM Where: Main Dining Room Summary: David Pedraza, a La Posada favorite, will be returning for a cello and violin performance during dinner from 5:30PM-7:30PM in the main dining room. David holds a Professional Performance Certificate from Lynn University Conservatory of Music and recently he finished his Master of Music at the same institution with an award of full scholarship.

What: Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens and Al Fresco Lunch

When: Thursday, March 8th at 10:00AM Where: Meet in Lobby Summary: The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens was established in 1977 by the prominent sculptor Ann Weaver Norton (1905-1982). The organization is devoted to exhibiting works of other artists, preserving the founder’s studio, historic home and displaying her monumental sculptures in a secluded urban preserve where a notable collection of rare palms is continually being developed. Please sign up for a self guided tour and al fresco lunch at the gardens provided by Christine’s Catering. Admission for seniors is $10 and must be paid at the door. What: Met Opera on Demand: La Traviata When: Wednesday, March 28th at 1:30PM Where: La Sala Grande Summary: La Traviata is one of the cornerstones of the operatic repertory. The score is littered with fantastic tunes that are now wildly famous (even those who aren’t at all operatically versed will know many of the arias from countless TV ads) but beyond that, it is the coherence of the whole piece that makes it a masterpiece. The taut plot and vivid characters paired with Verdi’s perfectly attuned music tend to result in few dry eyes by the end of Act III.

What: Royal Ballet: Giselle When: Saturday, March 31st at 3:00PM Where: La Sala Grande Summary: Enjoy Giselle on the big screen in La Sala Grande! Giselle is the classic ballet of the Romantic era. It transformed the dance world when it was first performed in Paris in 1841 and remains at the center of the classical repertory. Giselle’s essence has remained the same through many different productions in well over a century of continuous performance. Peter Wright’s production for The Royal Ballet is based on Marius Petipa’s classic version (after the original 1841 choreography by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli), which was first staged in St. Petersburg in 1884.

What: Passover Seder When: Friday, March 30th at 5:00PM Where: Main Dining Room Summary: Seating is required by 4:30PM for the service at 5:00PM. Dinner will begin at 5:30 PM. The Passover Seder meaning "order arrangement,” is a Jewish ritual feast that marks the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Passover.
