See local directions* Northern State Parkway to the end and follow signs to Route 347 (Nesconset Hwy.). Take Route 347 to Route 112. Turn left on Route 112 and proceed north into Port Jefferson. See local directions* * Local directions: Heading north on Route 112, proceed over railroad tracks and make right at first traffic light (North Country Road). If you prefer, the Wisdom Conference Center is also accessible from within St. Charles. After entering through the automatic doors, immediately turn left and follow the red marks on the floor to the Wisdom Conference Center. He is also the owner of Joint Effort Therapeutics PT which provides home care, consultation services, and continuing education seminars. He has published in the peer review journals Rehabilitation Oncology and Journal of Manual And Manipulative Therapy. Mark has also self-published an auto-biographical account of his cancer experience titled Victor Victim: My Battle With Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In 1995, Mark graduated from Hogeschool Enschede in the Netherlands where he studied physical therapy. Prior to that, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in exercise physiology at the University of Connecticut. He has taken numerous continuing education courses with the greatest focus in the specialty of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. Completion of several of these courses has earned Mark his Masters of Science degree in Advance Orthopedic Physical Therapy and his transitional Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Touro College. Mark also attributes much of his passion for education and practice to his family, friends and colleagues but most of all, his beautiful wife, Irma and their dog, Molly.

Course LocationThis course will be held from 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, in the Wisdom Conference Center at St. Charles Hospital.

Course DescriptionThis manual therapy workshop will focus on the upper cervical spine with an integrative approach to treatment. This course is designed to provide clinicians with a brief overview of theory, rationale, and principles of upper cervical spine management. A review of terminology and functional anatomy of the upper cervical spine will be presented. Normal osteokinematic and arthokinematic motion will also be discussed in detail. Components of comprehensive upper cervical spine examination, including instability and cervical arterial dysfunction screening, will be demonstrated. Select treatment interventions incorporating mobilization and Muscle Energy Technique (MET) will be provided. This course is designed for clinicians working in an orthopedic manual therapy practice setting.

Course ObjectiveUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to:• describe the anatomical structures pertaining to

the upper cervical spine

• describe the normal osteokinematic andarthrokinematic movements of the upper cervicalspine

• understand the importance for use of evidencebased special testing of the sub-cranialstructures

• understand what components are included in acomprehensive examination of the upper cervicalspine

• understand the general principles and strategiesof upper cervical spine treatment interventions
