Thursday, September 25, 2014Opening Plenary
Rich Umbdenstock, President & CEO - American Hospital Association and James H. Hinton, Chairman - American Hospital Association/President & CEO - Presbyterian Healthcare Services
The American Hospital Association’s top leadership, Rich Umbdenstock and James Hinton, open this year’s NMHA Annual Meeting with firsthand perspectives on the federal landscape and implications for New Mexico’s hospitals. From the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to the evolving role of hospitals in an increasingly value-based world, the duo will provide examples, insights into Congressional action/inaction and suggestions for attendees to consider in planning at the local level.
Keynote Luncheon“The Tortoise and the Hare: How Change is Unfolding in Health Care” - Emily Friedman, Health Policy & Ethics Analyst
Only a cave dweller could miss the monumental changes in American health care. Beyond ACA, other megatrends include physician practice choices; demands for better quality; community and population health; uncertain health care inflation; health insurance turmoil; new alliances, partnerships and models. Social factors continue to force change including shifting demographics, the aging of the Boomers, increasing public skepticism, sluggish economy and the ever-present influence of the Internet.
Sound public policy is difficult at best, and mischief occurs due to partisanship and disregard for frontier providers, especially in states with limited resources such as New Mexico. How can hospitals and other providers continue to fulfill their missions and plan for the future?
Telehealth ForumGet out of your chairs! Following a brief overview to telehealth and this session’s interactive structure, attendees may choose any three of the following subject areas:

Clinical Delivery II: Tele-ICU and ED support5. Clinical Delivery III: Tele-behavioral health from psychiatrists to substance abuse6. Tele-monitoring and readmissions reduction
The sessions goals are to: inform you of your options, explain how to evaluate your options, and outline next steps in planning the evolution of your telehealth capacity.
