Woodland Quilting Bee

Location: The Roost, St. GeorgeFriday & Saturday, Sept. 25 & 269:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. both daysCost: $115 (includes class, lunch, dinner and trunk show)

Friday Class: Flower Weave QuiltTeacher: Rene Hall Try a new way to piece your two-and-one-half-inch strips! Make these beautiful fl owers that have a “woven” look. It’s fun and easy to create this beautiful quilt.

Saturday: Open sewIn the mid-1800s, ladies

would gather together to help quilt quilts by hand and to so-cialize. They were there to help the one who needed her quilts done (mostly they would do this when a girl got engaged), while at the same time they could giggle, talk about boys, give advice, help those who were going through hard times, celebrate and just be girls. The ladies looked forward to it; in fact, it was one of their favorite things to do. They would quilt indoors or, if they didn’t have the space, they would do it outside. They decided to call this gathering the quilting bee.

This sounded like so much fun, we started our own last year and it was held outdoors! It was quite an experience sewing outside. It was so peaceful and relaxing. With the fresh air, sunshine (with a lot of shade) and beautiful land-scape, the ladies truly enjoyed themselves.

This year, we have changed it a little bit. We will have one class the fi rst day and the second day will be open sew. While you are sewing away, take a break to look at all the beautiful quilts that will be hanging along the fence and clotheslines.

This year for our trunk show, we thought it would be fun to include you! Bring two to three things to show off to the group. We just know with dinner and the trunk show, it’ll be a fun night. We promise that you won’t want to miss this. Limited spaces available.

HELPFUL SEWING TIPS!

•Change your needle at least every project and be sure it is the right needle for what you are sewing. (Needles are the cheapest part to your machine and can cause a lot of trouble and damage to your sewing.)

• Oil your machine in the bobbin area every two bobbins. This helps the parts to run smoothly and not rub and wear out. Use TRUE SEWING MACHINE OIL and the right one for your ma-chine. NEVER use WD-40 or 3 in 1 oil! It will end up causing a lot of damage to the machine.

We love our machines when they are working well and want to hate them when they are not. To keep your machine running and sewing well you will want to..
