First thoughtsDavid hull, Pastor
something big is about to happen in our church. We are calling it Life retreat . . . A Weekend for You. You have been seeing and hearing about it – now i encourage you to make your plans to attend. invite a friend to join you, then make your reservation online (www.fbchsv.org) or at the church building. Let me share what is in store for you.
All ages are invited. there literally is something for everyone, from preschoolers to experienced adults. the goal is to offer excellent training opportunities
for people to experience the abundance of life in the various stages and situations of life. this will not be a weekend of preaching and worship. instead, think of it as life training by outstanding Christian communicators who are coming to share their very best insights with us.
We begin on Friday night with a concert by the guitar picker Doyle Dykes in our Life Center. i have been listening to a CD of Doyle’s guitar playing and i love it. i have not heard him in person, but am looking forward to this concert on Friday night. it will a great way to launch the weekend.
saturday begins at 8:30 a.m. with coffee in the gathering Place followed at 8:40 by an opening celebration in the Life Center with our First Fellowship band. retreat sessions start at 9:00 a.m. You may select the one that works best for you. the presenters will not be repeating their remarks during the day. instead each section of the retreat will present four sessions for you to experience. here is the lineup:
Preschool Praise Day with Miss Patty CakeChildren’s Mini Camp with Nic Allen and team Parenting Children and teens with Brad GriffinMarriage with Dale and gena Forehand of stained glass MinistriesLife at the Crossroads: here am i now where do i go? with Loyd AllenBoomers, Empty Nesters and Beyond with David and Claudia Arp
Are you like me – you see several sessions that you would like to attend? one way to approach that is to divide and conquer. You select one group and your friend or spouse goes to another group. then when it is all over you can share what you have learned with each other and have fun teaching and learning from one another. Just a thought . . . whatever you do, don’t miss out on the Life retreat. Make your reservation now. i hope to see you there.

History Files Completed
history committee chairman Jim harrison makes known that scott Boothe of his
group has just completed PDF computer files of the 2011 and 2012 issues of The
Messenger newsletter. this means we now have available copies of the Messenger, issued weekly, from its beginning in 1950 to the present; in most years there were
50 or 51 issues. this newsletter, combined with the church minutes from the beginning
(1809 to the present) are the two main FBC archive sources, and they are both
available in their entirety through the history Department’s computer, and partially
through the church’s website.
