OPPORTUNITIES TO MAKE YOUR FAITH GROW

Rite of Election & Call to Continuing Conversion Our catechumens and candidates participated in the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion on Saturday, February 17th at the Cathedral Basilica. They are continuing to prepare for their special evening at the Easter Vigil. We would like to remind each of you to keep them in your prayers during this season of Lent.

Jack Dreesen& Brooklyn Kemp David Hoffman, Caroline Korb, Erin Halbert, Miles William

First Sunday of Lent This weekend we begin the season of Lent. For the next six weeks, through our acts of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, we will try to show our desire to “repent and believe in the Gospel.” Each year on the first Sunday of Lent, we always read one of the accounts of Jesus’ Temptation in the Desert. This year we read Mark’s account. Now since Mark’s was the first Gospel written and the shortest, it doesn’t include the details that Matthew and Luke include in their Gos-pels. Mark merely says: “The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts and the angels ministered to him.” The lack of details is not meant to minimize the reality of the temptations Jesus faced in the desert. They were real, and Jesus struggled with them. For Mark, though, the important thing was not the temptations Jesus faced, but that fact that he overcame them and after-ward began his public ministry by proclaiming: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel.” (Taken from Fr. Bauer)

STEWARDSHIP: TIME, TALENT and TREASURE Stewardship “After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee

proclaiming the gospel of God….” - Mark 1:14 Do you ever think about how difficult it must have been for Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John had just been arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have taken great love and trust for Jesus to do what the Father had sent Him here on earth to do. In the same way, following a life of stew-ardship takes great love and trust from us. We must be willing to surrender completely to God, trusting that God will always give us all that we need to fulfill His plan for us.

St. Vincent de Paul Update The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Alban Roe wishes to inform our parishioners that we provided financial as-sistance and /or referral to other resources to roughly ninety-three individuals in the fourth quarter. We con-tinue to give twinning assistance (financial help) to three other conferences (parishes) on a monthly basis. We have also provided special emergency assistance to other conferences.

Our expenditures for the fourth quarter of 2017 were: Utilities $1770.25 Food $ 974.25 Medical/Prescriptions $ 507.90 Auto/Transportation $ 500.00 Twinning $2850.00 Housing $ 600.00 Operating Expenses $ 300.00 Furniture/Appliances $ 544.98 ----------———- Total $8047.38

During this quarter, we assisted a parishioner with pre-scriptions, debt assistance and help with insurance. We had six instances where we helped individuals outside of our parish boundaries with monetary assistance due to requests from neighboring parishes. We continue to pro-vide parishioners and non-parishioners alike with food, gas and utility help. Through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus and Men’s Group, we were able to provide Thanksgiving turkeys to ten deserving families. We helped one particular individual with our prescription generic drug program to help offset the cost of his medi-cation. This prescription drug program has become a benefit that we are employing more and more. St. Alban Roe parishioners have been most generous and kind in their offerings and sacrifices. Again, we all thank you very much.

Dynamic Catholic at St. Alban Roe “Become the Best Version of Yourself”

The first sign of a Dynamic Catholic is Prayer. Dynamic Catholics have a daily commitment to prayer. Here at St. Alban Roe we are so blessed to be able to sit with Jesus fully present in the Adoration Chapel. The chapel is open 24/7 and is a great space to retreat from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives and focus on God and his great plan for our lives. Not sure about the adoration chapel? Here are a few tips to get you started: · Pick a day and a time to go to the chapel this week. Put it on your calendar. Schedule it in. Make it a priority and you will be more likely to go. · Plan on staying for 10 minutes. If you arrive and find you want to stay longer, great! However, set yourself up for success and start small. · If you are the only one in the chapel, remove the cover from the monstrance. Make sure you cover it back up before you leave. · What can you do during adoration? This is YOUR per-sonal time with God. As Father John Ricardo says, “Just waste some time with Him.” If God was not behind the veil of the Eucharist, what would you do? Christ says we are no longer servants but friends, so just spend some time with your friend. He loves you and is calling you.

There will be a table in the Narthex this weekend after all masses with Free Dynamic Catholic Materials. Feel free to stop by and pick up a cd or book that you have not had a chance to listen to or read. We will also have more Mat-thew Kelly tickets for sale for $39 a piece. This will be your last chance to purchase tickets at the parish level. Tickets are selling like hot cakes, so get yours now before it is too late!!

Have a prayerful week.
