February 2014
The Chamber news-letter this month is packed with information from the 2014 Chamber of Com-merce Banquet held on February 1, 2014. In addi-tion, we have had a some new members join during the past month and a net-work nite that went off great. Due to the Banquet preparations, the member-ship drive to renew existing members and encourage new members to sign up will be kicking off this month.
The Chamber Ban-quet was extremely well at-tended this year with ap-proximately 275 guests in attendance for the evening ceremonies.
The initial wine and cheese reception was a great place to have conver-sations with people that you might not have seen for a while or just to catch up with what others were do-ing. Thanks go out to Gabe Parker with Homestead Winery for setting up the wine booth for the event.
The dinner served by Cappy’s Café was deemed to be excellent by everyone in
attendance. As the winner of the 2013 Business of the Year Award, would you have expected anything less from this great chamber member.
Russell Graves was the featured speaker this year and highlighted the ru-ral way of life and why it is important to him and oth-ers.
Over 25 baskets were silently auctioned off during the evening. They ranged from hunting and fishing items to elaborate wine and chocolate baskets for the upcoming Valentine’s day on February 14th.
The live auction fea-tured five items this year and auctioneer Randy Pen-dergrass did an excellent job on encouraging bidders to keep upping the price on these select items.
The event closed out to the sounds of the band “Rocky and the Bullwin-kles” from Grayson County. They helped put on a show during a break in the main program and stayed to play music that quite a few peo-ple danced to after the pro-gram. Special thanks go out
to “The Trailer Guys” locat-ed on Hwy 121 south for furnishing a new 40 foot trailer for the band to per-form on.
Thanks to all the members who helped make this years event such a great time. Whether you bought tickets, a table, or contrib-uted to the auction items, the Chamber of Commerce appreciates all your help.
We are already plan-ning for next year’s event and we look forward to put-ting on a program that you will remember when you leave.
William Keifer, a member of the Board of Di-rector deserves a hand in making this years event such a success. His leader-ship and hard work helped pull the event together and go off smoothly.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an individual who has contributed
much more than just showing up and being a part of the organization. The individual or
groups selected for this award have worked all year long for no pay and in most cases no
recognition during the past year. While many people show up at chamber sponsored
events, most have no idea of the time and effort that it has taken to put on the event in
such a way that is seems effortless to the attendees. Just as important is the time need-
ed to close out any event and get the word out to the surrounding community about how
the event went.
This year we recognize one of those unsung heroes from the Bonham community
who worked tirelessly last year in making the chamber a success and letting others know
about what the chamber does on a day to day basis.
This person worked for over a year from their home in putting together the cham-
ber newsletter that is sent out to our members monthly. They attended and took photos
and notes for multiple chamber events such as network nites and ribbon cuttings for in-
clusion in the newsletter and articles in the local papers. They helped in staffing the
booth at the Fannin County Fair that the chamber had last year and also helped in plan-
ning and organizing the Christmas parade.
The dedication to help the Bonham Chamber and still be fully involved in other
related activities in the area is commendable when you consider they also have 23
grandchildren that they love to stay in touch and active with.
It is with great honor that the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes
Beckie Farris as the 2013 Volunteer of the Year.
