BEHIND THE PRIDE

ZIGGY AT THE PRO BOWL

Safety Glover Quin and defensive end Ziggy Ansah recently led separate donations for a total of 130,000 bottles of water to city of Flint residents affected by contaminated water in their homes and schools. The Lions organization also donated to the United Way to assist with relief efforts.

As part of his contribution, Ansah traveled to Flint and helped to unload the bottles of water personally with teammates from the defensive line. Quin, who donated with teammates from the Lions secondary, also encouraged businesses to donate and promised an autographed football to any business donating 36,000 bottles of water or more.

CONGRATULATIONS ZIGGY ANSAH!

Defensive End, #94 Ziggy Ansah was named to his first Pro Bowl this sea-son. He was voted the honor by players, coaches, and fans who recognized his great performance for the 2015 season. The Pro Bowl was held on Jan 31st at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Ansah decided to take the trip with his family and a few of his friends including the entire Lions defensive line and two position coaches. During the week, Ansah and his teammates had the opportunity to go boating, tour an army airfield, ride in a helicopter, take photos with players from around the league and enjoy the fun and the sun in Hawaii.

Pro Bowl players are ‘drafted’ into two teams by honorary team captains. Ziggy started in the game and had one sack for Team Irvin, captained by Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cow-boys receiver Michael Irvin. Team Irvin prevailed over Team Rice, captained by Pro Football Hall of Famer and former 49ers wideout Jerry Rice, with a 49-27 final score.

HEALTHY HABITSSTAYING ACTIVE IN THE WINTERTrapped inside by the colder weather? Snow Day? No worries – there are plenty of ways for you and your parents to be active together at home.

The first step is to get up and get moving. You can do so with a variety of fun games that you can play with a sibling, friend or parent. Here are some games/activities to consider:

DANCE PARTY – Turn on your favorite song and dance to the beat of the music. Dancing is a lot of fun and great exercise!

KEEP THE BALL/BALLOON UP – Use a balloon or a beach ball and try your best

to keep the ball from hitting the ground. Make sure you’re in a safe and open area.

“ROARY SAYS” – Just like “Simon Says”, take turns with your parent, sib-ling or friend being Roary, and do motions like touching your toes, stretching, doing jumping jacks or jogging in place.

SCAVENGER HUNT – Each person makes a list of things to seek out in the house (example: something blue, some-thing handmade, something that has batteries), and then trade lists and set out on the hunt.

RECYCLING CHALLENGE – See who can collect the most items for recycling in the

house (cans, plastic, and paper). You can then do a recycling toss challenge with small lightweight plastic items into your recycling container.

Experts recommend limiting the time that your body is idle (not moving) to a maximum of about two hours a day. So get up, be creative, and stay active this winter.
