February 2018 MILFORD BOARD OF EDUCATION NEWS A monthly newsletter from the Milford Exempted Village School District Board of Education The Milford Board of Education held its regular Board of Education meeting at Meadowview Elementary on February 15, 2018. Prior to the start of the regular meeting, a records commission meeting was held. Presentations Welcome Mrs. Kelli Ellison, Principal of Meadowview Elementary and Mrs. Julie Williamson, School Psychologist spoke about the PBIS program, a positive behavior program that encourages students to be respectful, responsible, and problem solvers. Meadowview is currently implementing Tier 2 interventions directed at the 10-15 percent of the students who are struggling with these behaviors. A team from the school looks at the behavioral data to see which students are having difficulty and follow up with a variety of interventions and support. Clermont County Library Theresa Herron, the Communications Manager at Clermont County Public Library, invited the public to the grand opening of the new Milford branch located on Buckwheat Road on Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m. Ms. Herron shared features of the new branch. There will be three study rooms with a large monitor and dry erase boards for tutoring and/or individual study as well as two large meeting rooms. The new Milford branch also features an outside courtyard where patrons can relax and read, and a Maker Lab with a 3D printer. Milford Cheerleaders Recognition Mrs. House recognized Milford Coach Christy Gregory and the competition cheer team for their recent accomplishments. The team now competes in the top UCA circuit where they qualified and competed at nationals in Orlando. The team finished 4th in the non- stunting traditional competition and 3rd overall in the Game Day division. For the third year in a row, the Milford cheer squad also finished first in the ECC. Great Oaks Report Mr. Dave Yockey shared that an economic impact study of Great Oaks was conducted which showed the significant impact the career technical center has on the local economy. He reported that 14 Milford seniors are currently employed in their career field with full-time employment offers upon graduation. Athletics/Extracurricular Report Mrs. Debbie Marques and Mr. George Lucas reported on achievements of the winter athletic season and highlights from the high school drama and music department. Business Advisory Council (BAC) No report Student Council Representatives Milford students Maddie Atwell and Lydia Krage reported that Student Council is planning another Prom for area students with special needs on April 8, at Milford High School. Milford is partnering with other school districts to open the dance to more students. Student Council is also planning Milford High School’s prom for Saturday, April 28. Student Council is working with the Teaching Professions Academy to raise money for the Leukemia Society and is working on its student ambassador program to host a success fair for juniors and seniors. Public Participation None Treasurer’s Report Mrs. Debbie Caudle The Board approved the following: Financial reports for the month ending January 31, 2018. Appropriation Revisions and Certificate of Estimated Resources. Donation of Swingline Stack and Shred Shredder to Meadowview Elementary valued at $3,800. Resolution accepting amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission
