Comrades, 2021 has not started out the way any of us would have hoped. In the first nine days of the year, we lost Past Post Commander Jack King and Post Quartermaster Ray Bassetti. When the current Covid restrictions are lifted and with the families’ blessings, the post will honor the memory of our fallen comrades with celebrations of life, in the post, for all the membership to attend. The VFW requires that we elect a new Post Quartermaster within 60 days. In the interim, I have appointed Comrade Joanne Smith to act as Post Quartermaster until nominations and elections can occur. Comrade Smith is a retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 with many years of financial and personnel experience and she will make all of us proud. The plan right now is to have formal nominations for Quartermaster at our February 11th meeting. Then hold the election in the hours before our March 11 th meeting. The officers and I will work out the details and they will be communicated to you as soon as possible. This is a special election and does not affect the yearly officer elections that will occur in May. The QM we elect in March will have to run again in April if they wish to continue in the position. February 2021

The start of a New Year:

The start of this New Year is not the best for me

or the post as we lost two brothers in arms in the

first two weeks of January, Jack King died

1/1/2021 and Ray Bassetti died 1/9/2021. I

personally did not know Jack and I’ve known Ray

for over 25 years. I know that they are with the

Lord and better off than we are now, but they will

be deeply missed by family and friends. Raymond

was a service-oriented person and served others

most of his life and continued serving after his

passing by being an organ donor and will help save

the lives of fifty or more people and help with

research to save even more lives. With the passing

of family and friends, life continues to go on as

hard as it may be. Trust in God for comfort and

peace for God will guide you through these trying

times. Respect families’ privacy and honor their

request as this will comfort and support them. I

know that there will be more deaths this year as

that is part of life so please have your affairs in

order because you never know when you will leave

this life.

I pray: May all our brothers and sisters that pass

on be received in the arms of our Lord Jesus

Christ. Amen

Please call or text me when someone is in the

hospital, sick, dies or needs prayer.

~ AUXILIARY HOSPITAL WORKSHOP ~

This is a note to our Sisters of the Auxiliary

Hospital Workshop. Due to the COVID-19

pandemic, which has affected all aspects of our

workshop, there is no one accepting the fruits of

our labors. As such, we took a vote and decided

to suspend the workshop until this pandemic is

over. When it is safe and the hospital will accept

our items, made with love, we will get back

together. If there are any questions, you can give

me a call at (804) 357-5635.

each meeting. Please be on the lookout for the invite

and future info.

Please continue to seize the moment to recruit new

members and check with Diane Melson or me if you

need help. There are applications on the front table

near the bar and in the Auxiliary mailbox in the office.

Congrats to Helen Harris for being our winner of the

life membership. We will be passing the basket for

additional donations for the National Home and

Buddy poppies at each meeting so any spare change

will do.

Our Chaplain, Diane Absher continues to contact our

Auxiliary sick and shut-ins. Please call her at 804-240-2460 or

email her at [email protected] to notify her of

anyone who's sick, hospitalized or has lost a loved one.

She will inform us when our brothers and sisters need

our support.

Tuesday – Friday. Plan to drop by for a meal. It is great

to see everyone again. Due to the COVID-19

regulations, we must wear a mask while in the post.

Check for volunteer opportunities supporting our Post.

Remember to report your hours worked as you and the

Auxiliary get credits for those hours. Even if you are

not volunteering under the VFW banner, any

community outreach counts. Checkout the website

Phil Hudson, Mac McCormick, Ray Dawson, Doris Wollett, Ron Scoville and Ray

Bassetti made the trip to Liberation Services on January 7th. Cassie and Brandi fixed

a delicious rib dinner for the homeless vets there. They enjoy our visit there each

month when we spend time with them during the dinner hour. They would like to

visit our post someday in the future maybe with our bus so we will see. They enjoy

our visit and so do we.
