November 10, 2013

B.A.S.S. and the Tulsa Sports Commission are proud to announce that Grand Lake O’ the

Cherokees and the City of Tulsa, Oklahoma, will be the site and host of the 2013 Bassmaster

Classic, February 22-24, 2013. It will be the 43rd edition of sport fishing's greatest

championship and the first to be hosted by the Sooner State.

Grand Lake marks the farthest west that the Classic has been held since the 1979

Bassmaster Media Properties

The Bassmasters®The Bassmasters chronicles the competition from each Bassmaster Elite Series event. The coverage of Elite Series events presents a unique challenge to producers because of a playing field with seemingly endless boundaries and a sport that prides itself on split-second decisions. The one-hour program is one of the highest-rated outdoors programs on television.

The show is produced by JM Associates, a division of B.A.S.S. LLC. JM was started by Jerry McKinnis, who hosted The Fishin’ Hole on ESPN2 for 26 years and is now one of the owners of B.A.S.S.

JM puts cameras on the water for the final day of competition. As many as 12 cameras can be on the water at one time, shooting roughly 140 tapes and approximately 70 hours of footage to produce the one-hour telecast. But that’s not all. On the water and in the sky, the producers of The Bassmasters employ a helicopter at top-level events to get aerial shots during the morning launch and throughout the tournament day. These shots have provided some memorable moments for fishing fans.

More than 300 hours of footage contribute to the ingesting, editing, studio production and graphics that it takes to produce the one-hour show. Furthermore, production of The Bassmasters requires the work of almost 30 broadcast staff in the field and in the studio to produce each episode.

Hosted by Tommy Sanders and Mark Zona, The Bassmasters serves fishing fanatics with the most comprehensive how-to and where-to information about how Elite Series pros tackle a body of water. The show provides in-depth analysis on lure choice, fish management, the mental approach to fishing and countless other variables that affect the competition.

Zona, often the source of comic relief, is no stranger to B.A.S.S. tournaments, posting a career-best, third-place finish at a 2005 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Open event on Lake Champlain. Sanders, who was recently inducted into the Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame, mixes in entertainment and information in superb fashion. And the show has received critical acclaim; the production of the 2008 Bassmaster Classic earned a Sports Emmy nomination for Outstanding Live Event Turnaround category.

Additionally, in a sport where many of the athletes are just as interesting as the competition, The Bassmasters allows Elite Series pros to showcase their personalities in addition to providing a vehicle to promote their personal brand and their individual sponsors.

The Bassmasters continues to set the industry standard for television fishing content and will air weekly throughout the 2012 season on ESPN2.

B.A.S.S. Publications

Bassmaster MagazineFirst published in spring 1968, Bassmaster Magazine has been the ultimate authority on bass fishing for more than 40 years. The goal of the publication is to provide B.A.S.S. members with information on how to become better bass anglers, with the majority of the content leaning toward how-to articles. The publication has received critical acclaim, including three Folio awards for editorial and design in the Consumer Sports category (more than 500,000 subscribers).

Regular features include reader favorite “Day on the Lake,” which documents top Bassmaster Elite Series pros visiting obscure bodies of water with seven hours to unlock the secrets. Regular departments include the “Lunker Club,” which highlights B.A.S.S. members with their trophy catches, and “Here’s How To,” which teaches anglers do-it-yourself projects.

Editor James Hall, a Texas native, has more than 14 years’ experience as a magazine editor, including eight years at the helm of Bassmaster.

B.A.S.S. TimesFirst published in 1989, B.A.S.S. Times is a news and information publication for serious bass anglers. The primary mission is to focus on current events and in-depth issues of interest to bass anglers including biological, political and environmental issues, current events and insightful coverage of the Bassmaster Elite Series. Best described as a “news tabloid,” the publication recently underwent a redesign. The publication serves more than 110,000 readers and is distributed to all members of the B.A.S.S. Federation Nation and to B.A.S.S. life members, as well as more than 50,000 paid subscribers.

The monthly publication was created to serve as a sister publication to Bassmaster Magazine, while targeting the most hard-core segment of the B.A.S.S. membership.

B.A.S.S. Times is edited by Dave Precht, who also serves as Senior Director, B.A.S.S. Publications.

JOINT NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: Nov. 10, 2011 Contact:

Tulsa Sports Commission, B.A.S.S. announce 2013 Bassmaster Classic in Green Country (BIRMINGHAM, Ala./TULSA, Okla.) — B.A.S.S., and the Tulsa Sports Commission announced today its selection of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees and the Tulsa metro region as the site and host of the 2013 Bassmaster Classic, Feb. 22-24, 2013. It is the 43rd edition of sport fishing's greatest championship and the first to be hosted by the state of Oklahoma. Grand Lake marks the farthest west site for the Classic since the 1979 championship on Lake Texoma. It is the sixth time that B.A.S.S. has held a professional event on Grand Lake, which was the venue for three Invitational tournaments in the 1990s and Elite Series events in 2006 and 2007. "We're very excited to bring the Classic to Oklahoma and Grand Lake," said B.A.S.S. CEO Bruce Akin. "It's a wonderful venue for us, and we're confident it will provide a true test of the best when the world's greatest bass anglers compete in the championship of our sport." In 2013, the event will bring an expected economic impact of nearly $26 million to the local and regional economy. The Bassmaster Classic marks the inaugural event of a new era in the Tulsa region’s tourism industry with a nationally-recognized, highly visible, three-day event that garners an average attendance of over 70,000 individuals. The BOK Center (www.bok.centertulsa.com) will hold daily weigh-ins and the Tulsa Convention Center (www.tulsaconvention.com) will hold the Classic Outdoors Expo. Competition boats will launch from Disney State Park Recreation Area #3 (http://www.stateparks.com/little_bluedisney.html) near Pensacola Dam, the world's longest multiple arch dam, which impounded the Grand River to form the lake in 1940.

Tulsa Sports Commission Bassmaster Classic 2-2-2-2-2 “This is truly a regional event,” said Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission. “With events downtown at the BOK Center and at Grand Lake, an estimated 10,000 hotel nights that will fall somewhere in between and a number of partnerships across the region that will make this event a success, the 2013 Bassmaster Classic is an exciting opportunity to exercise VisitTulsa’s regional scope as an organization attracting and promoting economically-impacting events to the area.” Up to fifty-four anglers will compete for a $500,000 first place prize and a $1.2 million purse over three days of fishing in average February temperatures of mid 40s. Low temperatures and late winter Classics have typically meant big tournament weights, as evidenced by record-breaking catches since the Classic transitioned from a summertime to a late winter event beginning in 2006. Limit (five bass) catches in the 20-pound range with daily big bass weighing between 7 and 9 pounds are expected. B.A.S.S.' history at Grand Lake began with three Invitational tournaments between 1991 and 1995. Those events were in the spring and fall, and daily limits weighing between 15 and 18 pounds per day were required to win. The lake has been even more productive in recent years, when the Bassmaster Elite Series came to Grand Lake in the summers of 2006 and 2007. Those tournaments were won by Mike McClelland and Kevin VanDam, respectively, and took daily limits averaging almost 20 pounds for the top finishers. At Grand Lake, daily big bass averaged between 6 and 8 pounds.
