Two Roads�

This Family Group Bible-Talk is intended to supplement the February�24th sermon at the MSPCOC. Although having attended or listened�to that lesson is helpful, it is not required to take part in the following�discussion.�

Opening Activity:�- Ask each person in the group to get a partner. Give them about�

5-8 minutes to go through Matthew 7:13-29 and to write down�all of the groupings of two opposing options or ideas (note that�for some the opposing idea is only alluded to) in this passage.�When the groups have finished, ask each group to quickly read�off their list and see who came up with the most or if some�groups had some that others didn’t (For examples: wide &�narrow road; wide & narrow gate; destruction & life; false &�true prophets; good & bad fruit tree; true confession & false�confession; wise & foolish man; house on rock & sand; a�teacher with authority & the teacher of the law)�

Opening Question:�- What is Jesus’ point with all of these contrasting pairs? What�

is he trying to get across?�-�Point out that verse 21 is really the center of gravity of this�

passage. Today we will focus more on the idea of doing God’s�will.�

Read John 6:38; 1 Peter 4:1-4�Group Questions:�

- What will be the typical response of nonbelievers when we�truly live for the will of God?�

-�What do you think it means to live not for “evil human desires,”�but for “the will of God,” or as Matthew 6:9 puts it to do God’s�“will on earth as it is done in heaven”?�

- Why will non-Christians be so opposed to that?�

February 27�

Read Romans 12:1-2�Group Questions:�

- A “living sacrifice” meant an “ongoing sacrifice” that didn’t come to an end.�With that in mind, what does it mean for you specifically to be a living�sacrifice?�

- What are some ways that God has allowed you to really grow in being a�living sacrifice?�

- What is the biggest struggle(s) or obstacle(s) for you in being a living�sacrifice?�

- What does it mean for you that Paul says that being a living sacrifice� is� your�true and proper worship to God?�

Read 1 Corinthians 10:31�Group Questions:�

- What can keep us from bringing glory to God in everything we do?�- In what ways does this idea frighten and intimidate you a bit?�- In what ways does this idea excite and encourage you?�- What is one practical way this week that you can grow in doing God’s will?�
