Have You Signed Up?
As I write this article it is National Signing Day for College Football. Wow! What
a day if you are a College Football enthusiast or just enjoy following College
Football.
As I have read a few articles I learned that some of these student athletes and their
families have agonized over their decisions because . . . IT WILL AFFECT THE
REST OF THEIR LIVES!
National Signing Day for the fans is both exciting and disappointing depending on
how your team does. However, the reality is that none of us have anything to do
with the process nor the agonizing of these student athletes or their families.
But, there is a signing of sorts that we do have a part in. The signing up for the
Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of this World. Make no mistake; we will sign
up for one or the other.
Like the agonizing of the student athletes and their families over which college to
attend and play for because it will affect the rest of their life, so we to have a
decision to make that will affect the rest of our life.
Jesus talked about this process in Mark 16:15-16, “15
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He who believes and
is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Did
you see it? He gave both sides. The choice is up to me!
I love the book of Acts. Throughout the book we see people making this decision
that will affect the rest of their lives. National Signing Day is a BIG deal for the
student athletes, especially, but also for their families, the schools and the fan
base.
However, this day is not near as big as today. For it may be your day to make the
decision of which side you will sign up on! Choose carefully! Because IT WILL
AFFECT THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

FLORENCE BOULEVARD
CHURCH OF CHRIST
The
Spotlight Members: Dave and Janice Schmidt by: Caleb & Lexie Leser
Dave and Janice bravely agreed to be our “guinea
pigs” as we begin this series of interviews. We are
choosing people randomly and will eventually try
to interview everyone. These interviews will help
us all get to know each other better and will
especially help newcomers (like us) get to know
those who have been here longer.
Dave and Janice became members at Florence
Blvd 21 years ago, when Dave was transferred
here with TVA. Janice grew up in Kentucky, Dave
in Indiana. They met in Evansville, Indiana, where
they worked for the same pharmaceutical
company. They have two grown children: Amie
Blalock and Joshua Schmidt. They are passionate
about evangelism and missions and have noticed
Florence Blvd grow in those areas during their
time here. Janice and Dave are currently involved
with World Bible School, the Missions Committee,
and Room In the Inn. Dave is also the Missions
Deacon. They enjoy traveling to Africa and the
Philippines for mission work. This summer’s
mission planning is already underway.
Advice for younger Christians: get
involved and STAY involved in activities
that share the gospel message.
Advice to young parents: “teach your
children spiritual values from a very
young age.”
Favorite Bible verses: John 3:16; Titus
2:11-12; Romans 6:23.
Favorite vacation spot: Smokey
Mountains.
Favorite snack: popcorn!
Favorite Sunday-after-service-lunch-
stops: Cracker Barrel; Casa Mexicana.
Dave’s favorite joke:“Young couple just
tied the knot, sit down for first home
cooked meal. Wife says, ‘I already know
how to make banana pudding and
meatloaf.’ Husband asks, ‘Which are we
eating?’”
Dave and Janice Schmidt are very well-rounded,
great people! They are definitely assets to the
Lord’s church.
