Little Geniuses is a chess-song singing, laughing, dancing, clock-slapping, zany chess video, puppet show introduction to chess. For kids ages 3-5, Little Geniuses puts on a high-energy, 45-minute chess practice, in which kids earn brightly-colored silicone wristbands and look forward to our 22 daily activities. Kids report chess class to be the favorite part of their week because they find our developmentally targeted thinking activities compelling, exhilarating, gratifying and FUN! Calling all BOYS! Imagine an after-school academy where kids can have fun engaging with state-of-the-art technology while being physically active. Presenting KINECT! Now your child can have constructive, physically active, video game fun while under the watchful eyes of the school’s staff. Kids can have fun at KINECT exploring new and amazing worlds. By using body movements, they can explore and discover the hidden secrets that each new world has to offer. Some games can be either competitive or cooperative, but focus primarily on the fun and physical activity. Singapore Math After School | 4th Grade (Mon) Karen Worsham Continue a strong school year by reinforcing the principles of our Singapore Math curriculum. Singapore Math places a consistent and strong emphasis on problem solving and model drawing, with a focus on in-depth understanding. Fourth Grade Math Academy is a great way for math students of all levels in fourth grade to practice and review math concepts taught in class. As a part of this academy, students will complete math homework and weekly assignments, review for upcoming math quizzes and tests, and practice memorization of math facts, along with having the opportunity to play math games that relate to concepts being learned in class. Children will develop a sincere love for ballet and tap in this creative and fluid dance class provided by Mazza-Smith Dance. Self-expression and a willing spirit make learning ballet basics and tap a joy. Students who continue with lessons throughout the school year will participate in a formal recital at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts in May. Costumes for the recital are included in the cost. Students will need to wear pink leather ballet slippers and tan buckle tap shoes. Each project will also later be shown at the “RPDS Film Festival” held in May in Kissling Hall, complete with an “Academy” Awards presentation! Lights, camera, ACTION! “Science of Gardening”|Kindergarten-6th Grades (Wed) Kelly Knight and Jan Reeder

Ready to dig in the soil, get your hands dirty, experiment, and become ecological scientists? Come un-plug and learn about the Science of Gardening with Ms. Knight and Mrs. Reeder on Wednesdays. We will be starting a garden from scratch and growing all sorts of yummy vegetables that we can enjoy after harvest. Learn about how to make plants grow healthy and strong, and take pride in what you can accomplish! We will incorporate STEAM to combat gardening issues as they pop up and create solutions. We will be planting seeds, weeding, getting rid of pests, harvesting, watering, and having fun! We will also be doing fun science experiments such as testing out natural fertilizers, observing the life cycle of plants, and finding answers to gardening issues through SCIENCE! The garden will need to be cared for during the week, as well, so we can divide up watering responsibilities that can be done during lunch time! Gloves will be provided. May bring a change of clothes or be okay with getting uniform dirty. Minimum 5 participants Wednesdays 3:15-4:15 | February 28th -April 18th Cost: $150

Set, Design, and Art Team for Oz |1st-6th Grades (Wed) Molly Rhoden and Jennifer Sherlock Now is your time to join or re enroll for the second part of our OZ set design adventure. We have been working with students driven to design. The set, design, and art team is planning, painting, crafting, and constructing all of the props and set pieces that will be used on stage for the first ever RPDS school wide musical. It’s not too late to join your friends in this collaborative, creative adventure to craft all of the OZ scenes, run lighting and make the play happen on the RPDS school stage. Get excited about the Emerald city coming to RPDS and help us bring OZ to life! Your child can explore his or her passions in this academy by working with the plethora of materials and technology in the STEAM Imagination Station! Molly Rhoden and Jennifer Sherlock It is now PreK 4 and Kindergarten's time to join the set design and art crew for Oz. This is the first time the school has collaborated with both upper and lower school to bring a theatrical production to Riverside. Sign your student up to be actively involved in crafting the artistic vision and engineering and building the pieces needed for this amazing stage production! Please remember to mark your calendars for the production of Oz, on May 17th at 6:30, so you can watch with your child, and see what wonderful work they have been working on during this academy. Little LEGO Builders|PreK 4-Kindergarten (Fri) Katy Clayton

Little Lego Builders will provide students with more than just fun! They will have the opportunity to be creative and work collaboratively with other students, exploring the wonderful world of LEGOs. Mini Mad Scientist|PreK 3-Kindergarten (Fri) Barbara Young

Come explore and get messy while having tons of fun with an hour of wacky and weird science experiments. We will learn and create fun and fantastic experiments! As we explore these experiments, each scientist will receive a case log to document all his or her findings. Join me as we explore the wacky world of science. *No academy Friday, February 16th, make-up will be Monday, February 12th Fridays 1:40-2:40 | March 2nd -April 20th Cost: $150

STEM and Minecraft|2nd -6th Grades (Fri) Chris DeBaggis In this academy students will be exposed to STEM and business concepts through designing a town/city. They will be responsible for establishing rules, assigning and performing roles, surveying land, drafting and planning a town/city design (which will be subsequently built in game) as well as learning negotiation through bidding for projects and building working relationships. Students will also maintaining a budget throughout the academy. STEM and Minecraft provides a safe, fun and productive environment to explore one of the most popular games ever. In the future as the town/city scales the students will be introduced to more advanced concepts like city governance, economic and environmental issues and more. *The additional fee for this academy is due to purchase of the Minecraft app for iOS. This will allow the students to have this app, and continue to work and grow their business concepts even after the academy is over. Minimum 6 Fridays 3:15-4:15 | March 2nd – April 20th Cost $160

Individual Music Lessons|Kindergarten–6th Grades Ronan School of Music

Individual music lessons are available for a variety of instruments. Through commitment and practice, students can gain a valuable gift and have the pleasure of playing music for a lifetime.
