Governor's Agricultural Excellence Club Grant

Apply for a Governor's Agricultural Excellence Award. 4-H clubs are encouraged to apply for this award which recognizes 4-H clubs for the work of the individuals in the club and the community service work of the entire club. Recognition is in the form of a $500 check issued to the club's treasury to be used as described in the award application. Twenty-five clubs are recognized each year. Clubs may use the award dollars for many different programs. Conferences or workshops for others in the community, trips or tours for club members, community improvement projects in their hometown, campus visits, fair grounds enhancement, inter-generational programs, and the development of a youth council are just a few examples of the ways the award can be used. While the majority of the clubs choose a project that benefits many others in their community some have chosen to celebrate their success by providing more experiences for club members. Applications are available online at https://www.ne4hfoundation.org/governers-ag-excellence-award/ and are due by March 1st.

2020 Special Garden Project

The Special Gardening Project is an opportunity for 4-H members to grow unusual

and fun projects in their gardens. Each year, a new plant is selected as the focus for

all members enrolled in the project. Youth receive seeds which they plant and

cultivate using project resources provided throughout the experience. Youth then

have the opportunity to exhibit cut flowers or harvested vegetables or present their

experience through a poster or report. The project is designed to challenge youth

interested in horticulture by introducing them to new and unique growing experiences

and foster real-world problem-solving skills through a guided horticultural experience.

This year the Special Gardening Project is focused on the unique, Classic Magic Bachelor Button.

Classic Magic Bachelor Buttons are a unique mix of plum, purple, and bicolor flowers. Not only do the

flowers attract beneficial insects, they are edible as well.

Be sure to sign up for the special garden project on ne.4honline.com and let the Extension Office know

that you need seeds.
