AWARDS NIGHT

The annual awards night was held on Thursday January26 at the Tracy Gee Center. After a lovely buffet, President James Gam-ble passed out the awards for Photogra-pher of the Year and Groups A and B categories: Assigned, Monochrome and Open. The Photographer of the Year is Julie Cheng. The award is given to the individ-ual having the highest average score for the passed year . To see the winners and winning images see Pages 6-11.

ATTENTION:

All Competition Participants

Images must be submitted according to club guidelines or your image may not be included in the monthly competition Please follow the sizing instructions carefully: A horizontal image cannot be longer than 1280 pixels along the horizontal side; A vertical image cannot be longer than 800 pixels along the vertical side. ( Vertical images cannot be sized 1280 pixels along the vertical side!) The size of the JPEG image is not to exceed 1MB.( See above for pixel size.)

NEW INFORMATION 4/1/2016

Rename the image according to the guidelines below. For example: An Assignment image by John Brown would appear as AS_Assignment_BrownJ.jpg (Use “M” for Monochrome and “O” for Open categories.) DO NOT use first names, nicknames or ini-tials only, for identification. Also, the size of the title is limited to 35 characters when naming images. It is important that the guidelines for naming files be followed when submitting images for the monthly competitions otherwise you run the risk of not being credited with your entries.

Images that are not easily identi-fied will be discarded.

Assignment Categories 2016-2017 The Assignment list is: February 2017 Holiday scenes. A scene from any recognizable holiday such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memo rial Day, Halloween , etc. March 2017 People Candid Unplanned photos of people . (Street Photography} April 2017 Abstracts Abstract photography concentrates on shape, form, color, pattern and texture. The viewer is often unable to see the whole object. May 2017 Domestic Animals Pets or Livestock such as but not limited to horses, cattle, sheep, goats etc June 2017 Springtime Images that say spring :flowers, baby an imals such as lambs baby birds etc

July 2017 Only in Houston Images that can be taken no other place but Houston. August 2017 Vehicles Your choice of travel conveyances. September 2017 Shadows Images that show the shadow of subject rather than the subject itself October 2017 Panorama Images with wide vistas. .November 2017 Close-Up Nature Zoom in on nature subjects to get fine detail.

2017 GSCCC CONVENTION

May 4-7th in Fort Worth, Texas

Our hotel is the Marriott at Champions Circle – a great location right next to the Texas Motor Speedway – Home of NASCAR. Top notch speakers will be on hand– including Tyler Stableford – a Canon Explorer of Light and David Woo – two time Pulitzer finalist for his news photography and well known for his celebrity work in Top Dogs and Their Pets. Friday night there will be a great Texas dinner and photo shoot in the Fort Worth Historic Stockyards … Saturday night the Awards banquet will be at the Texas Motor Speedway next door to the convention hotel …a very unique location adding something fun to our ban-quet experience. Houston Photochrome Club is a member of the Gulf States Camera Club Council and the Photographic Society of America

Wildlife Photographer of the Year

Founded in 1964 and organized by London’s Natural History Museum and BBC Worldwide, Wildlife Photographer of the Year is one of the longest and most prestigious photography competitions in the world. Every year, the best images submitted are selected to form the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, and are ex-hibited at art galleries, museums, and science centers around the globe. The Houston Museum of Natural Science will again host the breathtaking Wildlife Photographer of the Year. This exhibi-tion will be on display from January 27 to June 4 2016.
