Let’s talk about our Chapter Calendar! During the last 2 years the Chapter Staff have put together a yearly ride/event calendar. Rick Brown would then take the calendar to have it printed and bound. We (staff) decided this year to do it a little differently – our calendar will be available on our website (gwrra-mdh.com). There are several reasons for this change; we’re hopeful that updates can be done more quickly online, the calendar will be available not only to our chapter members, but to any other GWRRA member too. In addition, it will be available for those visitors who are looking at our website and will give them an idea of some of the activities/events that we do and could potentially lead them to join our chapter. Also our chapter calendar is a “living” document; in other words, it is always subject to change, whether adding, changing dates, or cancelling or rescheduling a chapter activity. Keeping our calendar on our website helps defray some of the costs for our chapter which allows us to spend the money elsewhere, such as paid ice cream socials (for those attending), our chapter picnic, holiday party, etc. Last but not least this also means our chapter helps to save one of our natural resources – trees – by keeping the calendar electronic vs printing/binding 30+ calendars. Don’t forget that our Spaghetti Dinner Bingo Fundraiser is coming up fast! If you haven’t registered yet, contact Fran Haslup as soon as possible! Looking forward to a great turnout and a FUNtastic time! Also note the ‘Save the Dates’ events for March and mark your calendar – our March Staff Meeting and

Chapter Gathering has been moved forward as Easter falls on the fourth Sunday of March! Ride safe – and keep the shiny side up!

Upcoming February Activities Feb 20 – Annual CH-H Spaghetti Dinner Bingo, Mt. Ararat Masonic Lodge, 136 E. Gordon Str., Bel Air, MD. Dinner is at 5pm; Bingo at 6pm. Limited seating! See flyer for more details. Feb 24 – Chapter H Staff Meeting – at Judy & Shane Patishnock’s house, 7pm.

Feb 27 – Snow Date – for CH-H Spaghetti Dinner Bingo. 218736 Feb 28 – Chapter H Meeting – at Golden Corral, Aberdeen. Eat at 0800; meet at 0900.

Don’t forget – somewhere in this newsletter, you will find hidden someone’s GWRRA member number. If it is yours, tell Fran at the next gathering and you will win a $10 Golden Corral Gift Card! Winner must attend the meeting to collect their

gift card.

The Polar Bear Plunge was held 28-30 January 2016. It is the 20th annual plunge. In 1997 they had 350 plungers and raised $40,000.00. In 2002 there was 1,860 plungers and raised $40,100.00. In 2007 there was 7,400 plungers and raised $2,200,000.00. In 2012 there were 10,000 plungers and raised $2,600,000.00. In 2015 there were 8,000 plungers and raised $2,100,000.00. This year I’m not sure how many plungers there were but so far they raised $1,858,547.00 and still counting. This is the 3rd year that I took the plunge. Plunging with me this year was my daughter, Courtney, my son, Ethan, his girlfriend, McKenzie, his friend, Hennery, and my friend, Tony. My other son, Kevin, was going to but could not miss his Driver Ed Class. Also we had my coworker go. We all had a good time. The water was cold this year! The money that is raised goes to the Special Olympics. Safety Recall for Gold Wing GL1800 2001-2012. The recall is on the secondary master cylinder for the rear brake. You should have received your recall by now. I know Judy and Shane had their bikes brake recall as

well as some other maintenance work done at Lancaster Honda. I am on the list at Power Sports Honda in Crofton for my brake recall maintenance. Greetings all – Time is once again passing us by, with the holiday season come and gone, recent snow nearly all melted away, and Chapter H’s Spaghetti Dinner Bingo just ahead on the calendar. I don’t know about you but I am already reviewing my complaint list regarding why I hate the heat of summer just so that I am prepared for it. Speaking of being prepared, it is time once again to dust off those T-CLOCK maintenance inspection forms to ensure your motorcycle is prepared for riding. In line with that is an upcoming Parking Lot Practice, scheduled for the 19th of March so that you might practice those critical skills for continued safe riding (more details to come on the PLP). During the recent Chapter Gathering in January, I mentioned again the Rider Education Levels Program. Some information you need to know as you seek to climb them levels is provided as follows.

The “Rider Ed” Program has four levels:

* Level I *

“Safety By Commitment”

You may sign up for the Rider Education Program’s Level I at any time. There are no prerequisites or

minimums to meet. Simply bring your commitments to make riding safer for you and those with whom you ride.

** Level II **

“Safety By Education”

To progress to this level, you must have signed on at Level I, achieved at least 5,000 safe miles since becoming a GWRRA member and have taken an approved riding training course (riders) or an approved co-rider training

course (seminar or 2-Up riding course) within the past three years.

Greetings from our Rider Educator

Rodney Malone

*** Level III ***

Certified Tour Rider/Co-Rider “Safety By Preparation”

You must be current in Level II, have CPR or First Aid training carry a First Aid kit, and take a Motorist

Awareness Seminar.

**** Level IV ****

Master Tour Rider/Co-Rider “Safety By Enhanced Preparation and Experience”

You must be current and have a full year at level III, have ridden no less than 25,000 safe miles since joining

GWRRA, and must be certified in both CPR and First Aid. Master Tour Riders and Co-riders sign a commitment to wear all the gear all the time (ATGATT).

ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ATTENTION

We received word from George, the Flamingo Whisperer, that he received the letter below from Gold and Wing. George has asked that we come to the aid of our pink-feathered friends and let them visit a new family. I heard that the Phantom has driven by the home of Donnie and Sandy and found that the birds are no longer in the front yard. I have tried to contact Donnie and Sandy via email and phone to let them know that we will retrieve our mascots so we will see what happens. How can we be Chapter of the Year if we have no mascot????? Chapter H Members your help is needed......

Dear George, Please come get us. The Phantom tried to rescue us but they took us out of the front yard. We are sad and lonely and miss our cousins and friends in Chapter H. We have tried not to complain and be good yard birds. Can you tell Donnie that he can just stuff us in a bag like Frannie did and dump us off at the Chapter meeting or toss us in Barbie’s yard!
