Page # ___FEDERALIST DEBATE OPENING STATEMENT

We support the constitution, because our nation is very weak, and

buried in debt, inflation, and depression. If we don’t strengthen the national

government now, it will never be able to solve the countries numerous problems,

like settling trade, commerce, and international issues. The constitution solves all

of these demanding issues, while guaranteeing the rights of the citizens. Some

people say that the states must remain sovereign, while we argue that the people

should be sovereign, for they built this country, and the states do not cooperate and

work for their personal good. While some may also say that the stronger federal

government will become tyrannical, we argue that the elements of federalism and

checks and balances along with shorter terms, which will result in the smooth

functioning of government and prevention of corruption. In conclusion, the

constitution is the answer to all of our problems and we must ratify it if we don’t

want to fall apart.
