• Moldova, officially the Republic of Moldova is a
landlocked country in Eastern Europe, located
between Romania to the west and Ukraine to the
north, east and south. It declared itself the
independent state with the same boundaries as the
preceding Moldovan SSR in 1991, as part of the
dissolution of the Soviet Union. A strip of Moldova's
internationally recognized territory on the east bank
of the river Dniester has been under the de facto
control of the breakaway government of
Transnistria since 1990.
• The country is a parliamentary republic and
democracy with a president as head of state and a
prime minister as head of government. Moldova is a
member state of the United Nations, Counsil of
Europe, WTO,OSCE, GUAM, CIS, BSEC, and
other international organizations. Moldova currently
aspires to join the European Union, and has
implemented the first three-year Action Plan within
the framework of the European Neighbourhood
Policy (ENP)

• Chişinău (before 1991), Russian: Кишинёв,
Kishinyov), is the capital and largest municipality of
Moldova. It is also its main industrial and
commercial centre and is located in the middle of
the country, on the river Bic. The population of the
city is 592,900 (2007) which grows to 911,400 in
the entire metropolitan area. The Chisinau
aglomeration has about 1.3 million people in
4.500 km2
• Chişinău is the most economically prosperous
locality in Moldova, and its largest transportation
hub. As the most economically and socially
important municipality in Moldova, the city has a
broad range of educational facilities.

• Vadul lui Vodă is a town in the Chişinău municipality,Moldova. It a eastern suburb of the capital of the country, and is well-known as a resort.
• The town is situated 18 km east of Chişinău on the right (western) bank of the Dniester river. During the Soviet era, several million tons of sand were brought in to create a wide artificial beach. Today it retains a small, mostly local, tourist trade.
