The June FloodOne of the areas hit by the 19th

June flood was the practicechipping green - the course wasclosed for the day (a rareoccurrence).

Work is in progress for extendingthe practice chipping green. Theexisting 18th green will be cut androlled, then re-laid here. An excitingnew green will provide memberswith a great practice area.

FROM THE PRESIDENT

ClubhouseThe internal project on the clubhouse is now into a second stage. We are endeavouring to replace the current table tops inboth the lounge area and the dining area to all be matching. This will include the two bar leaners. The plan is to sell to themembers a table top and make this part of the project as close to self-funding as we can, members will receive a tag with theirname on it on the table to recognise their donation. I really appreciate all the people who have put their names down to do thisso far and I’m sure with the on-going support from members it won’t take long to fill the board. The colours have been decidedon by the House and Bar committee and other people, so this will continue to brighten the place up.We have received from Pub Charities a grant for $30k for the external painting of the clubhouse, the two quotes that we havereceived see a shortfall of approximately $19k to complete this job, we have decided that we will start the work with thispayment whilst continuing to apply for grants to cover the shortfall. Work will start in October and again we will be using thepainters colour consultants to get the best result possible. This will include blasting of the steel beams and epoxy painting for along-term resolution to the rust currently there.Once this area is completed by the painters we will progress with the glass balustrade along the outside area, we are currentlygetting quotes to do this job and thanks to the social event planned for 30th October we expect to cover this cost, so pleasesupport the organisers efforts in this fundraising event, information will be out shortly.Lastly on this note, we will be looking for volunteers (as always….) with a bit of an update of the Caretakers house. We arelooking at some carpet and vinyl replacement as well as internal painting etc. so if you have a spare day please let Ann know sowe can give you a call when we are ready.Footnote: Daniel & Rebecca Lynch will be taking over the security duties and moving into the house towards the end ofAugust. Daniel has commenced working on the course 2 days per week following the resignation of Paul Sheffield.

18th Green RenovationsAs you can now see we are underway with the redevelopment with the 18th green, the weather has not been as kind as itwould have been over the last two years but we are continuing with the preparation work.’We are looking at starting the shaping work (again weather permitting) in early August with a view to having it ready for sowingin early September to catch the start of the growing season. This is a long-term project and I appreciate that it would be greatto have it not impede on our enjoyment of playing golf but we are working with what we have, whilst trying to keep the costsdown. We have had many volunteers again offering both time and equipment and I want everyone to acknowledge the effortsthat these guys are putting in when you see them there. The plan of the development is still up in the bar area and I encourage anyone to add suggestions or comments into thesuggestion box, these will be looked at and as the design will be largely finalised by Tommy (course designer) as he is shapingthe area. Bunkering etc is included in this ‘design as we go plan’ and again it will be determined by the volume of fill that we cangather by that stage. The area around the path leading to the first tee will be reshaped and the chipping green extended using the current turf fromthe 18th green as it is rolled up and moved across, this does two things for us, it gives us more good quality top soil for the 18th

green and also uses the turf rather than burying the green that has been worked on for years to get it to it’s current state. In approximately two weeks the 18th green will be rolled up and moved and the alternate 8th green will come into play as the18th green, this will be a very short par 5 still, however we will be introducing an internal out of bounds to protect players fromdrives as they play the 8th fairway. This will only remain until the new green comes into play and will only be effective from the18th hole not the 8th.Whilst the alternate green is in play, the top of the hill to the practise green will be a NO-GO area. This means that there willbe no entry permitted (even to get a golf ball) unless you are signed in. This is a health and safety requirement and I apologisein advance for the inconvenience it may cause, this also means those finishing on the alternate green will have to walk aroundthe 8th fairway and across the carpark to get to the 1st tee (the cut-through by Glens house will not be used). We must be verystrict on this as Health and Safety breaches are very painful in many ways…..Again I appreciate there are several inconveniences involved with the work we are doing but when they are finished, I hopeeveryone will see the value in the jobs
