Self-expression and creativity are fostered through music, drama and assemblies, while physical skills are developed through ball play, balance, movement and dance. Our broad curriculum is enhanced through digital learning and technology (Computing), Spanish, Music and Physical Education. Spiritual awareness, promotion of British values and an experience of other cultures are part of our Christian foundation. Teaching outside the classroom is enjoyed by all and includes trips to our forest school, Hatfield Forest, local museums and places of interest. Weekly swimming lessons taught in small groups allow our children to become confident in this essential life skill.

Effort is rewarded as much as attainment and every achievement is recognised. Pupils are very proud to receive praise or a Gold Book Award for outstanding effort or achievement. Learning certificates are awarded to children who focus on the School’s Language of Learning.

Pupils are introduced to healthy eating options during their school day and are required to bring a water bottle to school to use in class. Milk, water and a healthy snack are enjoyed at mid morning break and squash, water and a wholemeal sandwich in the afternoon. On cold days hot chocolate warms everyone up!

With Silver ‘Healthy Schools Award’ status, Felsted prides itself on providing healthy and nutritious food which appeals to children of this age group. Specific dietary requirements are catered for. Pupils are taught the importance of eating their ‘five a day’ and are encouraged to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Teachers supervise the children at lunch, encouraging them to eat well and to try new foods. Good table manners are also reinforced.

We believe that building a relationship of mutual understanding and support between you and your child’s teacher will benefit your child. Staff are always available for a chat, but most parents find that a quick email will solve any problems.

A thriving Parents’ Association organises many activities and social events during the year such as summer parties, charity quiz nights and class Christmas meals. Each class has a nominated Parent Representative whose role it is to update and involve parents about school information and events. The most popular school events with parents are the swimming gala, sports day, music concerts, and, of course, the Christmas nativity, where often a tear or two is shed. We even have a Grandparents in School Day!
