The Blue Gold Program aims to create a safe living environment and sustainable socio-economic development for poor households in coastal areas (22 polders) in Khulna, Patuakhali and Satkhira districts, through community mobilization and institutional strengthening, water management, agricultural production and food security (including aquaculture, livestock and nutrition, and value chain development). Responsible for mainstreaming gender within the Blue Gold interventions, as well as initiating and supporting specific gender activities and providing support to the national gender coordinator. The project works with the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Department of Livestock (DoL) and the Department of Fisheries (DoF), and with local government institutions at project level. Beneficiaries are organised in water management Organisations and Farmers’ Field Schools. Conducted 13 missions between 04/2013 and 04/2018 and provided backstopping from The Netherlands. Selected contributions:

- Developed a gender strategy for the program as part of the inception phase in 2013; contributed to the revision of Blue Gold’s Theory of Change (ToC) in 2016, ensuring explicit reference to gender in it;

- Contributed to gender issues in the baseline survey and in other surveys (e.g. for FFS); supported a study by university interns on the impacft of Blue Gold on women’s empowerment comparing old and new polders;

- Supported colleagues in integrating gender issues into their daily work, including specific gender training for TA staff at zonal and polder level (including for BWDB and DAE staff);
