Course Timeframes:Component Awards: Students can complete any of these programmes within 3 months which is ample time and can start it at any time of the year that is convenient. If students need to extend this period for any reason during or near the end of the programme they can request an extension through the college.

Major Awards: These Major awards consist of 8 separate components and are generally completed over 10-12months.

Study Options:Distance Learning: Students can complete programmes within3 months which is ample time and can start it at any time of theyear that is convenient. There are no lectures to attend and allcourse materials are provided. Some courses however do havesupervised exams as part of the assessment processes which require brief attendance. Please check individual courses for details.

Attendance Learning: The same FETAC programmes can be completed over 3-5 Full Attendance Days. Check our website– www.theopencollege.com for all future attendance dates.

Course Details:This course is open to individuals with an interest in caring forolder people, but it is of particular relevance to carers workingwith or planning to work with clients in the community. This is anarea of considerable growth in employment, whether in day carecentres or in the client’s own home. Family members caring forelderly relatives will also benefit from this course.

Course Details:This course is designed for people who wish to work in thearea of intellectual Disability, employers in the intellectual disability area would favour job candidates with this modulecompleted.

The course will also be of particular interest to family membersand friends who have contact with a person with IntellectualDisability.

This Component Certificate course leads to a FETAC Level 5award and is comprehensive and easy to read. This distancelearning/eLearning FETAC course means that students canstudy flexibly at home or at work while gaining a nationally accredited qualification.

Students receive a comprehensive Course Manual. Assignments, Course Materials and unlimited one-to-one Tutor support for the duration of the course.

Course Details:This module is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to provide and coordinate first aid in the workplace in compliance with the requirements of the Safety, Health andWelfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 andthe associated Guide to these Regulations.

Learners who successfully complete this course will:4 understand the responsibilities of the occupational

first aider4 be able to provide treatment for the purpose of

preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until discharge or the arrival of medical assistance

4 be able to provide treatment in the workplace for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse

4 be capable of coordinating first aid arrangements in the workplace

4 be familiar with health and safety legislation on first aid provision in the workplace.

Who should complete this course?The purpose of this very comprehensive module is to providelearners with a general understanding of legal principles and procedures, safety and quality in the workplace.It can be used as acore vocational module for DHSSX - Level 5 Certificate in HealthService Skills. The choice of optional units enables the learners toselect units appropriate to their role or areas they aim to work in.

If students need to extend this period for any reason during or near the end of the programme they can request an extension through the college.

Major Awards: These Major awards consist of 8 separate components and are generally completed over 10-12months.

Study Options:Distance Learning: Students can complete programmes within3 months which is ample time and can start it at any time of theyear that is convenient. There are no lectures to attend and allcourse materials are provided. Some courses however do havesupervised exams as part of the assessment processes which require brief attendance. Please check individual courses for details.
