General Equipment Precautions

Use of controls, adjustments, or performing procedures other than those specified herein, may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

Machine noise information order - 3. GPSGV, the highest sound pressure level amounts to 70 dB (A) or less, in accordance with ISO EN 7779.

Static electricity may cause body harm, as well as harm to electronic components inside the device.

Anyone responsible for the installation or maintenance of the IP-10C must use an ESD Wrist Strap.

ESD protection measures must be observed when touching the RFU.

To prevent damage, before touching components inside the device, all electrostatic must be discharged from both personnel and tools.

In Norway and Sweden:

Equipment connected to the protective earthing of the building installation through the mains connection or through other equipment with a connection to protective earthing – and to a cable distribution system using coaxial cable, may in some circumstances create a fire hazard. Connection to a cable distribution system has therefore to be provided through a device providing electrical isolation below a certain frequency range (galvanic isolator, see EN 60728-11).

About This Guide

This guide describes the IP-10C installation procedures and provides additional

information concerning system parts and installation procedures.

What You Should Know

The IP-10C is an all outdoor module, which is based on the FibeAir IP-10Q and

RFU-C systems. The IP-10C is part of Ceragon’s outdoor system, using the same

waveguide and accessories.

Target Audience

This guide contains technical information about IP-10C installation, and is

intended for use by qualified Ceragon technical personnel at all levels.

1. FibeAir IP-10C Overview

FibeAir IP-10C is a state-of-the-art all-outdoor unit which is fully software configurable and supports a broad range of capacities and interfaces.

2. General Installation Procedures

This section provides instructions applicable for every IP-10C configuration.

Note: For all installation types, do not remove the transparent pressure window (mylar) from the antenna interface.

2.1 Required Tools for Installation

The following tools are required for an IP-10C installation:

Ball head socket key wrench, metric set

Phillips screwdriver #1,#2

Slot screwdriver 0.5x3x100

Slot screwdriver 1.6x10x200

Locking Pliers with plastic teeth

Wrench 24mm

2.2 Transportation

The equipment should be prepared for public transportation. The cargo must be kept dry during transportation, in accordance with ETS 300 019-1-2, Class 2.3.

It is recommended that the equipment be transported to the installation site in its original packing case.

If intermediate storing is required, the packed equipment must be stored in a dry and cool environment, and out of direct sunlight, in accordance with ETS 300 019-1-1, Class 1.2.

2.3 Packing Inspection

Check that the package is not damaged.

Check the packing lists and verify that the correct equipment part numbers and quantities are found in the package that arrived.

Each IP-10C radio kit includes the following items:

IP-10C unit

2 Glands

5 Caps

Adapting bar kit

2 DC power connectors

2.4 Location of the IP-10C

Restricted Access Area: The IP-10C is intended for installation in a Restricted Access Area.

Distance: The IP-10C shall be installed within 140 feet (42.67 meters) from the building. Otherwise, Ethernet and other SELV connections will turn to TNV.

The IP-10C shall be installed in accordance with the national code and requirements of the country in which the IP-10C is being installed.

2.7 Antenna Connection

IP-10C uses Andrew, General Dynamics, RFS, Shenglu and Xian Putian antennas.

IP-10C can be mounted directly for all frequencies (6-42 GHz) using the following antenna types (for integrated antennas, specific antennas PNs are required):

Andrew: VHLP series

RFS: SB/SU series

Shenglu: SLC series

Xian Putian: WTC/WTG series

General Dynamics: HPS series

For remote mount installations, the following flexible waveguide flanges should be used (millimetric). The same antenna type (integrated) as indicated above can be used (recommended).

Other antenna types using the flanges listed in the table below may be used.

If a different antenna type (CPR flange) is used, a flange adaptor is required. Please contact your Ceragon representative for details.

Note: Conductive grease must be applied to the screws that connect the IP-10C to the antenna interface.

2.8 Adjusting for Horizontal and Vertical Polarization

Polarization changes in the IP-10C are made by adjusting the iris on the antenna port.

Attach the iris using two M3 screws, according to the antenna polarization:

For horizontal polarization, locate the holes above and below the letter “H” on the pins and fasten the two screws.

For vertical polarization, locate the holes above and below the letter “V” on the pins and fasten the two screws.

Note: For 6 GHz, separate irises are used for vertical and horizontal polarization. The vertical iris comes assembled with the IP-10C. The horizontal iris (MA-1840-X, IP-10C Twist 6Ghz Horizontal) is included in the IP-10C package.

2.9 Connecting Flexible Waveguides to the IP-10C

For an IP-10C operating in bands of 6-13 GHz, a remote mount adaptor must be used to connect a flexible waveguide.

For an IP-10C operating in bands of 15-42 GHz, you must remove the iris before connecting a flexible waveguide to the antenna port.

The following table provides the marketing models for the remote mount waveguide adaptor kits required, per frequency.

2.9.1 Connecting the Waveguide in 6-13 GHz Bands

1 Mount the remote adaptor and O-Ring to the pole mount using the four M5 flat screws supplied in the Remote Mount Adaptor kit, and tighten the screws.

2 Connect the flexible waveguide to the remote mount adaptor. Use screws (supplied with the waveguide kit) to fasten the waveguide.

2.9.2 Connecting the Waveguide in 15-42 GHz Bands

1 Remove the iris from the IP-10C (no adaptor is required for the 15-42 GHz bands).

2 Connect the waveguide to the antenna adaptor interface (the interface exposed by removing the iris). Use four screws (supplied with the waveguide kit) to fasten the waveguide end to the antenna adapter interface.

2.10.4 Cap and Gland Installation

1 Mount the gland/cap with the O-Ring to the desired location and tighen it until there is full contact (see figure below) between the gland/gland cap and the cover.

Use the large (1.6x10x200) slot screwdriver to tighten the cap.

Use the locking pliers or 24mm wrench to tighten the gland.

2.10.6 Preparing and Connecting a Cat5E Cable

6 Take the Cat5E cable and strip off about 70mm of the outer insulation jacket.

7 Strip off about 15mm of the inner insulation jacket.

8 Release the gland cap slightly.

9 Insert the Cat5 cable into the Cable gland.

10 Insert the Cat5 plug boot into the cable with its face up.

11 Roll back the foil shield insulation and wrap the drain wire around the foil. Do not remove any insulation from the conductors.

12 Align the colored wires.

Note: Cord colors should be matched to the same pins on both ends of the cable.

13 Trim all the wires to the same length. About 12mm on the left should be exposed from the inner sheath.

14 Insert the wires into the RJ45 plug. Make sure each wire is fully inserted into the front of the RJ45 plug and in the correct order. The sheath of the Ethernet cable should extend into the plug by about ½ inches and will be held in place by the crimp.

15 The cable jacket with shield must extend into the connector about 5mm for strain relief and shielding connection.

16 Crimp the RJ45 plug with the crimper tool.

17 Verify that the wires ended up the right order and that the wires extend to the front of the RJ45 plug and make good contact with the metal contacts in the RJ45 plug.

18 Push back the Cat5 plug cover on the connector plug.

19 Disassemble the relevant cap.

20 Insert the cable into the relevant hole in the small cover and tighten until there is full contact between the gland and the cover.

2 Split the connector into two separate blue units (one for each wire).

2.10.8 Connecting Bundled Cat5 Cable and Power Cable

1 Assemble the gland, and tighten until there is full contact.

2 Perform steps 7 through 8 in section ‎2.10.9, Connecting the Power Cable. 3 Connect the assembled Cat5 connector into the IP-10C plug connector. 4 Connect the power cable to the power connector in the IP-10C, as

described in steps 9 through 10 in section ‎2.10.9, Connecting the Power Cable.

5 Connect the grounding shield to the body with serrated washers, plain washer and M6 Nut.

6 Once all the cables have been installed, close the small cover using five captive screws and tighten the gland cap with 10 Nm torque.

2.10.9 Connecting the Power Cable

1 Strip off 45mm from the cable jacket. 2 Expose 10mm at the edge of each of the two wires.

3 Replace the left cap with a gland, and tighten it. Tighten until there is full contact.

4 Release the gland cap slightly.

5 Insert the power cable into the gland assembled in the small cover.

6 Insert the power cable wires into the power connector. 7 Match “+” and “–“to the red and black cord colors according to the power

supply connection cord colors (for + and – locations, refer to the figure below).

8 Tighten the two top screws.

2.11 Securing the Cables

All cables should be secured on site using a T-Rups kit, P/N Outdoor Ties (SI-0027-0), every meter. When using this kit, take special care to apply the proper amount of force in order to avoid damaging the cable being secured. This is especially important for optical (SFP) cables.

2.12 Grounding the Cables to the Antenna Tower Every 50m

Cables must be grounded as follows:

For optical (SFP) cable (see Connecting SFP Cables on page 27), no grounding is required.

For combined cables (see Connecting Bundled Cat5 Cable and Power Cable on page 29), the cable should be grounded to the antenna tower every 50m, using an SI-0391-0 grounding kit, IF RG-8 GRD KIT.

2.13 Grounding the IP-10C

1 On the front side of each IP-10C, loosen the nut, plain washer, and serrated washer.

2 Place the cable lug (supplied with the IP-10C housing kit) on the screw. 3 Secure the cable lug.

IP-10C Grounding Cable

The unit’s earthing screw terminal shall be permanently connected to protective earth in a building installation in accordance with applicable national code and regulations by a service person.

A 2-Pole circuit breaker, a branch circuit protector, suitably certified in accordance with applicable national code and regulations, rated maximum 20A, shall be installed for full power disconnection in a building installation.

Any outdoor antenna cable shield shall be permanently connected to protective earth in a building installation.

When selecting a power source, the following must be considered:

DC power can be from -40 VDC to -60 VDC.

Recommended: Availability of a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Source), battery backup, and emergency power generator.

Whether or not the power source provides constant power (i.e., power is secured on weekends or is shut off frequently and consistently).

The power supply must have grounding points on the AC and DC sides.

Caution!

The user power supply GND must be connected to the positive pole in the IP-10C

power supply. Any other connection may cause damage to the system!

Important: For the warranty to be honored, you must install the IP-10C in accordance with the instructions above.

2.14 Surge Protection

IP-10C includes built-in surge protection for its Ethernet and power interfaces. IP-10C’s surge protection mechanism complies with surge immunity standard IEC 61000-4-5, level 4, provided the Ethernet cables were prepared according to the instructions in Preparing and Connecting a Cat5E Cable on page 24.

3. IP-10C Configurations

3.1 1+0 Direct Mount Installation

3.7 2+0 Dual Polarization (DP) – Direct Mount Installation

Note: This is not an XPIC configuration.

A 2+0 DP IP-10C configuration requires installation of an Orthogonal Mode Transducer (OMT).

Important! Do not remove the transparent pressure window located on the OMT ports !

The following components are necessary for a 2+0 DP installation:

2. Mount the OMT kit on the antenna using four M8 screws and washers (supplied with the OMT kit). Do not tighten them yet, to allow rotation of the entire assembly.

3. Mount the two O-Rings (supplied with the OMT kit) on the OMT body. Pay attention to the mounting direction, as shown in the section view.

4. Connect the iris to the IP-10C using two M3 screws, according to the OMT port polarization

5. Mount the adapting bar on the OMT holder using two M8 flat screws.

6. Mount both IP-10C units on the OMT holder, and tighten them using the four M8 captive screws and washers supplied, with the IP-10C. Thread the screws without fastening. After all four screws are threaded in the correct locations, tighten the screws starting from the bottom screws.

Important! Pay attention to the polarization mounting direction.

9 Tilt the entire assembly, to achieve maximum XPD (Cross Polar Differentiation).

10 Connect the cables and ground the IP-10C units, as described in Cable Connections and Grounding Procedure on page 20.
