    Wire Rope Rust Protective and Lubricant

    Product Description

    Mobilarma 798 is premium performance, oil-based rust preventive intended to serve as a wire rope lubricant and to prevent rust andcorrosion under application and storage conditions. It is used in industrial, mining, and marine applications. Mobilarma 798 hasexcellent film forming properties and is of grease-like consistency. Its tenacious film protects wire ropes from the corrosive tendenciesof salt spray and moisture-laden atmospheres. Mobilarma 798 is effective throughout the extremes of temperatures that may be

    encountered at sea and gives good protection against mild acids. It is pliable at 35C and will not drip at 60 C. It resists throw-off inhigh-speed service and adheres without being tacky or stringy. On application, Mobilarma 798 becomes transparent; enabling treatedropes to be visually inspected. The film is self-healing and does not chip.

    Mobilarma 798 works well between the strands of wire rope, providing excellent lubrication during flexing. This characteristic reduceswear and improves life. It is compatible with other wire rope core impregnating materials that may have been applied duringmanufacture.

    Applications

    Mobilarma 798 can either be applied as received by brush or swab, or by spray, dip or bath if the product is first heated to 65oC or

    higher. For best results, only a thin coat should be applied. New cables or cables regularly maintained with Mobilarma 798 will requireno prior preparation. For best results, rusty or dirty wire ropes should be wire brushed and cleaned thoroughly with solvent and driedprior to application of Mobilarma 798.

    Mobilarma 700 Series

    Premium Performance Rust Preventives

    Product Description

    The Mobilarma 700 Series contains three premium performance rust preventives that cover a range of applications

    including storage and inter-operational activities. The Mobilarma 777 and 778 are intended for protection cold-rolled sheet

    and coiled steel in the metal industry. Mobilarma 798 is intended for the lubrication and rust protection of wire rope in

    industrial, construction, mining and marine applications. The Mobilarma 700 Series products exhibit excellent water

    displacing properties and form thin tenacious films that protect surfaces even under severe conditions that include high

    moisture levels and exposure to acid or corrosive fumes.

    The Mobilarma 777 and 778 form wet, oily and extremely thin barrier films that are not tacky so that they will not attract dirt

    or other foreign matter. They will protect sheet and coiled steel for up to twelve months, even under severe conditions that

    include variations in humidity and exposure to acid fumes that might be found in the vicinity of pickling operations.

    Mobilarma 798 forms a grease-like film that protects wire ropes from corrosion tendencies of salt spray and moisture-

    laden atmospheres. It is effective throughout the extremes of temperature that may be encountered at sea and gives good

    protection against mild acids. It is pliable at 35oC and will not drip at 60oC. It resists throw-off in high-speed service and

    adheres without being tacky or stringy. The film is self-healing and does not chip.

    Mobilarma 777 and 778 provide an effective and cost efficient means of protecting cold-rolled sheet and coiled steel prior

    to processing and during storage. They provide extended protection, even under severe storage conditions resulting in less

    reject and scrapped materials.

    These characteristics reduce wear and improve life of the wire ropes as well as minimize maintenance costs associated

    with their use. It is compatible with other wire rope core impregnating materials that may have been applied during

    manufacture. It is easy to apply and economical to use.

    Applications

    Mobilarma 777 and 778 are recommended for use as:

    - Protective coatings for cold-rolled sheet and coiled steel

    - Coatings for precision machined parts and instruments for storage

    - A die lubricant (Mobilarma 778) in some light duty pressing operation

    SECTION 4 FIRST AID MEASURES

    INHALATION

    Remove from further exposure. For those providing assistance, avoid exposure to yourself or others. Useadequate respiratory protection. If respiratory irritation, dizziness, nausea, or unconsciousness occurs, seekimmediate medical assistance. If breathing has stopped, assist ventilation with a mechanical device or usemouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

    SKIN CONTACT

    Wash contact areas with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing. Launder contaminated clothingbefore reuse. If burned by contact with hot material, molten material adhering to skin should be cooled asquickly as possible with water, and see a physician for removal of adhering material and treatment of burn. Ifproduct is injected into or under the skin, or into any part of the body, regardless of the appearance of thewound or its size, the individual should be evaluated immediately by a physician as a surgical emergency. Eventhough initial symptoms from high pressure injection may be minimal or absent, early surgical treatment withinthe first few hours may significantly reduce the ultimate extent of injury.

    EYE CONTACT

    Flush thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical assistance.

    INGESTION

    First aid is normally not required. Seek medical attention if discomfort occurs.

    SECTION 6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

    NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES

    In the event of a spill or accidental release, notify relevant authorities in accordance with all applicableregulations.

    PROTECTIVE MEASURES

    Avoid contact with spilled material. See Section 5 for fire fighting information. See the Hazard IdentificationSection for Significant Hazards. See Section 4 for First Aid Advice. See Section 8 for advice on the minimumrequirements for personal protective equipment. Additional protective measures may be necessary, dependingon the specific circumstances and/or the expert judgment of the emergency responders. For emergencyresponders: Respiratory protection: respiratory protection will be necessary only in special cases, e.g.,formation of mists. Half-face or full-face respirator with filter(s) for dust/organic vapor or Self ContainedBreathing Apparatus (SCBA) can be used depending on the size of spill and potential level of exposure. If theexposure cannot be completely characterized or an oxygen deficient atmosphere is possible or anticipated,SCBA is recommended. Work gloves that are resistant to hydrocarbons are recommended. Gloves made ofpolyvinyl acetate (PVA) are not water-resistant and are not suitable for emergency use. Chemical goggles arerecommended if splashes or contact with eyes is possible. Small spills: normal antistatic work clothes areusually adequate. Large spills: full body suit of chemical resistant, antistatic material is recommended.

    SPILL MANAGEMENTLand Spill: Stop leak if you can do so without risk. Recover by pumping or with suitable absorbent. If liquid istoo viscous for pumping, shovel it up into a suitable container for recycle or disposal.

    Water Spill: Stop leak if you can do so without risk. Confine the spill immediately with booms. Warn other

    shipping. Remove from the surface by skimming or with suitable absorbents. Seek the advice of a specialistbefore using dispersants.

    Water spill and land spill recommendations are based on the most likely spill scenario for this material;however, geographic conditions, wind, temperature, (and in the case of a water spill) wave and current directionand speed may greatly influence the appropriate action to be taken. For this reason, local experts should beconsulted. Note: Local regulations may prescribe or limit action to be taken.

    ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS

    Large Spills: Dyke far ahead of liquid spill for later recovery and disposal. Prevent entry into waterways,sewers, basements or confined areas.

    SECTION 7 HANDLING AND STORAGE

    HANDLING

    Avoid contact with skin. When heated, the vapour/fumes given off may cause respiratory tract irritation.Prevent small spills and leakage to avoid slip hazard. Material can accumulate static charges which maycause an electrical spark (ignition source). When the material is handled in bulk, an electrical spark could igniteany flammable vapors from liquids or residues that may be present (e.g., during switch-loading operations).

    Use proper bonding and/or earthing procedures. However, bonding and earthing may not eliminate the hazardfrom static accumulation. Consult local applicable standards for guidance. Additional references include

    Respiratory Protection: If engineering controls do not maintain airborne contaminant concentrations at a

    level which is adequate to protect worker health, an approved respirator may be appropriate. Respiratorselection, use, and maintenance must be in accordance with regulatory requirements, if applicable. Types ofrespirators to be considered for this material include:
