FC Barcelona names FieldTurf Official Sports Surfaces Supplier
FieldTurf becomes FC Barcelona’s Official Sports Surfaces Supplier (BARCELONA, July 2012) - The world leader in FIFA Recommended artificial turf
installations is joining forces once again with FC Barcelona and will install the most cutting-edge
artificial turf football pitches at the club's Joan Gamper training complex.
POLIGRAS IBÉRICA has been working with FC Barcelona for over 20 years and FieldTurf, the
parent company of Poligras Ibérica, has entered into an agreement to replace four artificial turf
pitches at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Two of the pitches will be replaced during the
month of July and the other two are scheduled to be replaced once the 2012-2013 football season
finishes.
Emili Sabadell, FC Barcelona’s Director of Operations, was quoted as saying that “the
agreement with FieldTurf is very beneficial for FC Barcelona, as we will replace the current
artificial turf, which was installed ten years ago, with new turf of a quality that is appropriate for
our youth football
FieldTurf will be installing FieldTurf on all 4 pitches. The product features one of the most
durable fibers in the industry surrounded by a patented mixture of silica sand and cryogenic
rubber infill material. This turf system has been designed to offer maximum safety, playability,
and durability, as well as enhanced surface permeability.
The new FieldTurf pitches have also been designed to meet and exceed the FIFA 2-Star quality
mark – delivering optimum vertical ball rebound, ball roll, shock absorption, deformation, and
rotational resistance. These biomechanical performance criteria are key to ensuring a high
performance football surface for elite level competition
FieldTurf is one of FIFA’s preferred producers. The high standards set and enforced by the FIFA
Preferred Producer Initiative aim to provide consumers with a guarantee that turf produced and
installed by FIFA Preferred Producers is of the highest standard and meets consumer
requirements. The FIFA Preferred Producer program therefore guarantees the club that FieldTurf
will deliver a high quality surface for many years to come.
Innovative Recycling Program
FieldTurf POLIGRAS will reinstall the old turf from the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on two
pitches that are next to the Miniestadi. By partnering with FieldTurf and FieldTurf POLIGRAS,
FC Barcelona benefits from an innovative and environmentally-friendly way of reusing the old
turf. The different components that make up the system installed ten years ago in the Ciutat
Esportiva (rubber, sand and turf) will be carefully separated using an extremely innovative and
patented machine so that the materials can be reused and given a new lease on life.
