But they are also painfully aware of more recent events-their exile in Babylon. Isaiah calls on them to “remember not”, to shift from the ancient rescue and focus on a new deliverance that God is preparing. This is not to disregard their history but to recognize a new future before them; they remain the Chosen People. The patch through the “mighty waters” is a symbol of their regeneration as a people. Today’s psalm expresses the unbelievable joy over God’s return of the captives from exile: “we were like men dream- ing!” God’s actions have changed their weeping to rejoicing and restored their fortunes like torrents of water over the desert. Paul writes passionately about his conversion, “the su- preme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Now that Paul has gained Christ in his life he considers his past as “so much rubbish.” This was god’s doing and not through any “righteousness” of his own. He knows his mission is not yet complete, and compares himself to an athlete who strains toward the goal. Near the end of his life he will return to this analogy when he confesses that he has run the race and kept the faith (2 Timothy (4:6-8) The story of woman caught in adultery is one of the most dramatic teachings about forgiveness in Jesus’ ministry. The line” let the one among you wo is without sin” has made its way into popular discourse on many occasions. According to the law, adultery was punishable by stoning, and the scribes and Pharisees attempt to catch Jesus in a trap: will he uphold the law or will he persist in his teaching on for- giveness? When they walk away they acknowledge their own judgment. Once again Jesus extends compassion to one who has sinned. How do you interpret the Lenten message in the Gospel story? In what ways does Paul’s personal struggle remind you of a similar experience in your own life? What do you believe is “something new” that awaits you in your life in Christ?

Isaiah calls on them to “remember not”, to shift from the ancient rescue and focus on a new deliverance that God is preparing. ADORACION AL SANTISIMO

SACRAMENTO

“Tampoco yo to condeno”.
