Celebrities Reveal their personal santas

There’s a little bit of Christmas every day of our lives because of special people who give us what we want and need even before we ask for it. Such is the true spirit of Yuletide. May we all learn to keep giving until we have nothing more to give. That way, even if our hands are empty, our hearts will always be full. How’s that for some ChristMUSH?

SHALANI SOLEDAD-ROMULO: “My husband Roman is my Santa because he always has pasalubong for me like fruits, chocolates, box of cereals and even an iPhone. But more than the material stuff, it’s his gifts of love and friendship that are the best.”DEREK RAMSAY: “Tita Virgie Ramos is the female version of Santa. She’s like a second mom to me. She showers me with so much love.”

MARTIN NIEVERA:“My mom has always been the Santa in our lives every Christmas, and during good days and bad for all her children and grandchildren.“Outside my family, it’s my Uncle Don Gay. He was the keyboard player of the Society of Seven for all the 10 years my dad was with them. He didn’t have his own kids so he assumed the role of a father and he made sure every kid of the band members got what they wished for. Uncle Tony and Uncle Bert, also of SOS, gave the best gifts, too. Shh! Don’t tell Mom.”

ARA MINA: “My current beau is a true-to-life Santa. The child and the woman in me look up to him in a million and one ways. He spoils me like a baby. He has mastered the language of love. I am so grateful. I love my Santa and forever will.”

PAOLO AVELINO: “For me, the OFWs are the modern-day Santas. They sacrifice so much to provide for us back home, especially during Christmas. My best friend’s dad is an OFW, and he never fails to send Christmas gifts, not just to my friend but to me as well. Now that’s true generosity.”JURIS: “My sister is my Santa. I joke about it but it’s true. I like going out with her because she always pays for everything. She’s the first person I go to when I need something. I depend on her a lot.”

OGIE ALCASID: My wife Regine is my Santa. Every year, not only does she provide a real Christmas atmosphere in the house with the decor, but she also makes sure that everyone in the family really feels the Christmas spirit. She does not forget anyone.ANJO YLLANA: “My late great manager, Tito Douglas Quijano, always played Santa to me. When my buddies Richard Gomez and Joey Marquez had new rubber shoes and radio-controlled toy cars, he would buy some [of these things] for me, too, so I wouldn’t look pitiful. He doted on all of us like we were his own flesh and blood.”TINTIN BERSOLA-BABAO: My hubby Julius plays Santa to me and our kids all year round. He is good at surprising me with small and big gifts, like anything Audrey Hepburn for my collection even when there’s no occasion. Almost all of my Hepburn stuff are from him. He also surprises me with LV bags. It really warms my heart. I am the luckiest girl!

RITA AVILA: Aside from my parents and relatives, my Nanny of more than 35 years must be my Santa. She has given me the gifts of comfort, convenience, protection, understanding and love. She’s my yaya, dressmaker, electrician, plumber and “inventor” of my makeup mirror. She is Santa, elves and reindeers rolled into one.VILMA SANTOS: My husband Ralph is like Santa to me. He’s a good provider, and he’s very generous with gifts on special occasions. He’s more thoughtful than me. He spoils everyone in the household and the clan. He really makes us feel that he’s the head of the family by taking care of all our needs and wants.

AIKO MELENDEZ: My mom is my Santa because she has always been there for me through all my ups and downs whether it’s Christmas or not. She has given me unconditional love. Aside from my mom, it’s Pops Fernandez. She’s been there for me especially these past months when I went through something. She’s been so generous with her ideas and taught me not to rely on showbiz alone. She told me to start a business so I can secure my kids’ future. With her, I opened a new avenue in my life. For me, the most important gifts are not material ones. That’s what makes my mom and Pops “real Santas” because their gifts to me are something money can’t buy.KEAN CIPRIANO: It’s really the Callalistas. They give me pure love and they give me gifts, too. They know me very well that they know if I’m happy or sad, naughty or nice.LUCY TORRES-GOMEZ: Aside from my husband Richard, Ben Chan, Kris Aquino, Gretchen Barretto. They love me and are real-life Santas, not just on Christmas but the whole year through!

that Pres. Aquino wants incorporated in the bill before it is passed into law.

Honasan told this reporter they deemed the proviso “too complicated” and would only cause further delay in the law’s passage. He said the ROR merits a separate resolution as an amendment after the POGI bill is approved.

Despite the threat to his position, Enrile, during the party, appeared unperturbed as he also ticked off the list of the Senate’s accomplishments in support of Pres. Aquino.

there’s ‘trust’ between Robin

& mariel

How does a couple, the wife a Catholic and the husband a Muslim, spend Christmas and other religion-related occasions?

“Just like everybody else,” assures Mariel Rodriguez who has remained a Catholic almost three years after she got married to Robin Padilla, a devout Muslim. “This is my third Christmas with Robin. We spent our first Christmas with his family. Then, we spent part of the Christmas Season last year with the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro where we distributed relief goods. Actually, we look at Christmas as a Filipino tradition, not as a Catholic or a Muslim.”

So at the couple’s West Fairview home in Quezon City, there’s a

Christmas Tree and the hall (which used to be a school for Robin’s Muslim scholars) is decked with the usual Christmas trimmings, except one corner which serves as Robin’s prayer room (no photographs, please!). This Sunday night, the long tables at the hall are occupied by the families of the Muslim construction workers employed by Robin, living in apartments at a compound next door.

“They built their own houses,” volunteers Robin who calls them his Bagong Katipuneros. Vice Pres. Jojo Binay, the administration’s housing czar, has given him a position so he started studying the mechanics of building houses. “So I bought the lot beside my house. My katipuneros started without pay; now, I’m already giving them salary.”

It’s their Christmas party and the couple

has invited their friend-reporters to celebrate with them. Food at the buffet table includes beef, fish, vegetables, assorted fruits, biko and other Filipino goodies, but, understandably, there’s no pork. No drinks harder than Coke.

“That’s one thing that Robin prevents me from doing,” reveals Mariel, “eating pork. Well and good, because I have stopped eating pork a long time ago.”

Mariel has beautifully blended with her Muslim brothers and sisters even if, as I’ve been saying, she’s still Catholic. No problem.

“Robin has never pressured me into becoming a Muslim,” insists Mariel. “Bawal ang compulsion sa Islam. It should come from your heart. I see the nice side of Islam and sometimes, I’m tempted to become one. But because of my kind of work, it might be hard for me. I can’t anymore wear a short dress or one with even a low neckline. I don’t want them to think that I disrespect their religion. When the time comes that I’m ready, then go!”

The next “crucial” question: When are they going to have a baby? What sort of family planning are they practicing — birth control or self-control? Or, in the vernacular, pinipigilan?

“All of the above,” answers Mariel without any second thought, adding, “ang

plano is pigilan. But self-control is hard, hahahaha! To be honest with you…okay, sasabihin ko na. Kasi Robin is endorsing Trust condoms, di ba? Kapag ini-endorse ni Robin, ginagamit niya talaga. I ‘trust’ Robin, hahahaha! Actually, it was Robin’s talent fee from that Trust endorsement that he used in buying the lot (where the ‘bagong katipuneros’ built their own houses).”

Does that mean that she and Robin are for the controversial RH Bill (4244).

“We need it,” explains Mariel. “It doesn’t mean that if you are for the RH Bill, you are pro-abortion. It’s more for prevention. It’s every woman’s choice whether to get pregnant or not. I’m a woman and I should have a choice.”

Right now, added Mariel, she’s not ready to have a baby yet.

“The same reason behind my not yet becoming Muslim,” she continues. “When I become a mother, I want to be a full-fledged mother who is hands-on in taking care of my baby. But I’m not ready for it yet.”

She’s okay with Robin’s four children by ex-wife Liezl Sicangco

(now married to a New Zealander and living in Australia), especially Queenie and Kylie who are only slightly younger than Mariel.

“Liezl and I are okay, too,” confirms Mariel. “Every time the children go to Australia, I ask them to bring my pasalubong for their mom. When they come back, they always bring me pasalubong from Liezl. We talk every now and then.”

Since she and Robin have been married in Muslim rites (first in Baguio and then in India), Mariel has so far given up hope of getting married in Catholic rites after they failed to get a blessing from The Vatican.

“We don’t think about it in the meantime,” she admits. “If it comes, eh, di thank you. But it’s not our priority anymore unlike before when I thought that it was a ‘must’ since some people doubted that we were married. Now, I can tell the whole world that we are married, though in Muslim rites,” adding

with a boast, “at saka registered na kami sa

NSO.

Since he can afford and provide for it, Robin may have three more wives if he wants to.

But no, protests Mariel, “Gusto ko ako lang! Everything is okay with me — the foundation, mga anak…he has five, one with Lea (Orosa) and four with Liezl…lahat okey sa akin. And the only thing I ask of him is to have only one wife, at ako lang ‘yon!”

Isn’t she possessive, especially when Robin’s Kapamilya teleserye (Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw) with Kris Aquino and Anne Curtis as leading ladies starts airing end of January?

“As I said, I trust Robin. Besides, Ate Kris is so nice to me. She even invited me to guest on her show Kris TV. One time, I was so touched because she said she has a new van, a Road Trek, and she has let most everybody to ride with her. When she was asked daw if Robin has ridden with her already, Ate Kris said daw, ‘No, I respect Mariel.’ That’s why I like her. Ang bait niya! At saka hello, si Ate Kris pa! Si Anne pa!”

Robin prays five times a day — at 4:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and before midnight.

When his teleserye starts, he might have to pray even harder especially when he comes home after doing love (kissing) scenes with either Kris or Anne, or both.

“You know,” confesses Robin, “I’m only human. Lalaki tayo so hindi maiwasan na magkaroon ng konting malice sa mga love scenes, you can’t avoid getting carried away. But as soon as I come home and I see my beautiful wife in bed, nawawala ang malice ko. Ganda ng asawa ko, di ba? Mahal na mahal ko ‘yan!”

Like most Muslims, Robin keeps tab of his diurnal “sins” and pays a fine for them. With all his love scenes in the teleserye, Robin joked, “Baka doon lang sa fine mapunta ang talent fee ko.”

Besides the teleserye, what Robin wants to do is preach The Word just like what Queenie (the less-showbiz among his children) is doing.

“She gets invited to preach. She and her group are now in Singapore.”

SENATE President Juan Ponce Enrile on Monday called on the media to join him and the chamber in supporting the legislative agenda of President Benigno Aquino III especially “if these (measures) are ‘correct’ and we believe it would benefit the country.”

“Let us join hands in making (the Senate) work as an instrument that would help the president of the Philippines despite our political differences.

“Kung tama at inaakala

naming tama para sa bayan, tutulungan namin. Pero kung sa aming paningin ay may duda na makabubuti sa bayan ay (humihingi) kami ng paumanhin kung tutulan namin dahil ito ang aming mandanto (mula) sa bayan,” said the Senate president.

Enrile made the remarks before members of the Senate media during the Christmas party he has been hosting traditionally for them in the last three years together with Senate Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada and Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan.

The party started one hour late as scheduled as the Senate last night voted 13-8 in favor of the controversial reproductive health (RH) bill, an administration measure being opposed by Enrile, Estrada and Honasan.

Enrile clarified his stand as rumor of another Senate “coup” to unseat him refused to die down. Allegedly active behind the plot are the allies of Pres. Aquino in the chamber headed by Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago and Sen. Antonio Trillanes.

It was gathered that while Pres. Aquino is personally satisfied with his relationship with Enrile, most of his advisers are beginning to see the 88-year-old statesman as a “lump” in their “throat.”

It was pointed out that debates and voting on measures deemed “important” by Malacañang always faced rough sailing in the chamber because of the stiff opposition on their passage headed by the Senate president.

Last week, the similarly controversial “sin tax” bill hurdled the Senate with just one vote in

favor, 10-9, despite its already being ratified by the bicameral committee earlier in the day.

Prior to Monday night’s voting on the RH bill, the chamber, led by Enrile, voted 17-0 to approve the Senate version of the freedom of information (FOI) bill authored by Honasan, otherwise known as the POGI (people’s ownership of government information) bill.

The passage of the FOI bill has been stalled in Congress because of Malacañang’s opposition to its being passed into law.

The POGI bill approved by the chamber likewise removed the “right-of-reply” (ROR) proviso

Loren sounds alarm on global warming

SENATOR Loren Legarda is saddened by the “reluctance” of some developed nations to deeply cut their greenhouse gas emissions and set new aid targets even as global temperature rises.

The concerned industrialized nations reasoned out that they cannot totally commit to cut their greenhouse gas emission due to their own economic troubles. Legarda expressed concern over the lack of concrete result in the 18th Session of the Conference of Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Doha, Qatar.

She noted that some industrialized countries refused to participate in a

second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, an international treaty that legally binds developed nations to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

“The World Bank has already warned that we are nearing a crisis—that of a 4 Degrees Celsius global temperature—which if not responded to proactively, will continue to endanger the survival of this and the next generations,” Legarda said.

She said that the Doha Climate Talks, which was held from Nov.26 to Dec.8 “left many disappointed because of the lack of commitment to address the threats of climate change even as a lot of nations, even those who refuse to commit to the climate agreements, are already

experiencing the threats of extreme weather events.”

“We have just recently experienced the results of the international community’s continued lack of meaningful action to mitigate the impacts of climate change,” said Legarda, the UN Regional Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for Asia-Pacific.

“Nearly a thousand lives have been lost, and hundreds are missing. Industrialized countries, like the United States have had their share of losses resulting from climate-induced disasters. And yet, when countries are given a chance to collectively agree on measures to correct the situation, nothing is done,” she said.

eddie garcia wins best Actor at Asia Pacific Fest

Filipino actor Eddie Garcia won best actor for Jun Robles Lana’s “Bwakaw” at the 55th Asia Pacific Film Festival held at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau on Saturday.

The screen legend received a standing ovation from the foreign audience on winning his first international acting award at age 83, according to his wife Lilibeth who attended the festival with him.

The report reached the Philippine Daily Inquirer through line producer Tonee Acejo and producer Ferdinand Lapuz, who were told about the victory by Garcia’s wife.

Garcia was one of 10 actors honored by the Inquirer at the 3rd Indie Bravo! Tribute held at the newspaper’s office in Makati last Monday.

“Eddie Garcia’s staying power in the industry is primarily due to real talent, hard work and professionalism. Today’s young stars have a lot to learn from him,” director Lana, one of 10 filmmakers in the 3rd Indie Bravo! honor roll, told the Inquirer.

Garcia, who arrived in Manila Sunday, said he was happy for the international recognition, no matter how long it took.

“I don’t really mind the long wait. I’ve always believed—if it comes, thank you; if not, I’ll be fine too. As I always say, it’s a nice bonus for a job well done.”

He said the recognition was sweeter because it came “from peers from all over Asia.”

Garcia is the only Filipino actor

elevated to the Famas Hall of Fame for his achievements as a supporting actor, actor and director.

Another Filipino, Nora Aunor, was nominated for best actress in this year’s Asia Pacific fest for Brillante Ma. Mendoza’s “Thy Womb.” The prize went to Taiwan’s Gwai Lun-mei for “Gf*Bf.”

The other awards were: best film, Johnnie To’s “Life Without Principle” of Hong Kong; best director, Hirokazu Koreeda’s “I Wish” of Japan; best supporting actor, Hoi-pang Lo for “Life Without Principle,” and best supporting actress, Makiko Watanabe for “Capturing Dad” of Japan.

Garcia said one of the earlier films he directed, 1963’s “Historia de un Amor,” was entered in the Asia Film Festival by

its producer, Sampaguita Pictures. “Mga Anak sa Pagkakasala,” a 1962 Sampaguita drama that he directed, was also entered in the Cairo film fest, he said.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to provide subtitles for Mga Anak sa Pagkakasala. The foreigners didn’t understand the movie,” he recalled.

According to online reports, the Asia Pacific Film Festival (then called Asia Film Festival) was the same event where National Artist Lamberto Avellana’s “Anak Dalita” won for best picture in 1956. In the same year, two other Filipinos won—Gregorio Fernandez was best director and Rogelio de la Rosa was best actor, both for “Higit sa Lahat.”

Other Filipinos who topped the Asia Film Fest in the past were Avellana as best director, with his team bringing home individual citations for “Badjao” in 1957; Rebecca del Rio as best supporting actress for “Malvarosa” in 1958; Leroy Salvador as best supporting actor for “Biyaya ng Lupa” in 1960; Charito Solis as best actress for “Dahil sa Isang Bulaklak” in 1967, and Charo Santos as best actress and Mike de Leon as best director for “Itim” in 1978.

“Bwakaw” was chosen by the Film Academy of the Philippines as the country’s entry to the best foreign language film category of the Academy Awards to be held in Hollywood next year.

“It would be great to be chosen among the top five, but my only hope is that the Oscars people will have the chance to see our film,” Garcia said.

aljur has ‘secret’ gift for kylie this ChristmasMANILA, Philippines - Aljur Abrenica

is not keen on revealing to media his planned gift for rumored sweetheart Kylie Padilla this Christmas, saying that he’d rather keep it a “secret” for now.

Abrenica shared in an interview with PEP that this is so because the gift has not yet been delivered to Kylie.

“Darating pa lang. Pinabili ko pa lang. Pinabili ko sa ibang bansa,” he shared.

He denied that it is something really expensive, say, an Hermes bag.

“Hindi, hindi tayo ganu’n,” he said.If anything, he intimated that it is

something that would be of great “help” to action star Robin Padilla’s youngest daughter.

“Ano kasi siya, e, it’s a hobby,” he tried to explain. “Lagi niyang…iyon yu’ng relaxation time niya, e. ‘Tapos ito [the gift] makakatulong sa kanya ito.”

As if he had revealed too much, Abrenica added, “Tanungin ninyo na lang siya ‘pag nasa kanya na. Ayoko kasing sa akin manggaling.”

Abrenica, himself, is not expecting any gift from Padilla.

“Parehas din naman kami ng sagot, e,

‘Kahit ano!’”Apparently, the actor is happy to

receive just about anything -- even a mere “appreciation letter.”

“Siguro ano na lang... Sa akin mahal man ‘yun o sobrang mura, malaking bagay na talaga sa akin, yu’ng may ibibigay man sila

sa akin, materyal man o kahit appreciation letter.”

Abrenica further hinted that he would be happy even with the usual “greeting card.”

“Basta galing sa taong mahal ko, iyon yung importante. Malaking bagay na sa akin iyon. Kasi marami kang natatanggap mula sa iba, marami ka ring ipinamimigay, parang naa-appreciate mo [ito] kasi iba pa rin kasi yu’ng [galing sa] malalapit sa iyo.”

The actor is planning to do several charity works this Christmas.

“Gusto ko balikan yu’ng sa Pampanga, yu’ng charity na ginagawa namin. ‘Yung lagi naming pinupuntahan sa Pampanga, yu’ng may mga batang may kapansanan,” he said.

“’Tapos nu’n, yung Christmas Day talaga, sa araw ng Pasko, [I will spend it] sa Batangas lang, [with my] family,” he added.

When would he allow time to rendezvous with Padilla?

“Siguro before Christmas, ma-greet ko man lang siya siguro in person,” Abrenica intimated.

dennis trillo Considers network transfer

MANILA, Philippines – If long-time Kapuso actor Dennis Trillo had to jump ship when his contract with GMA-7 expires a year from now, he would pick his former mother studio ABS-CBN over emerging network TV5.

The subject came up after he was asked by PEP in an interview posted on Dec. 16 about his and manager Popoy Caritativo’s next step now that his deal with GMA-7 is set to end soon. The actor opened up, “Siyempre ‘yung iisipin mo ‘yung mileage mo bilang artista. Maganda ‘yung mga nangyayari

sa ABS, ‘di ba? Shows nila, maraming nanonood. So, baka iyon, kung sakali.”

Dennis started out in ABS-CBN more than a decade ago, but left to try his luck with GMA-7 a few years after. His career visibly flourished under the latter, having snagged lead roles in soaps such as “Mulawin,” “Darna,” “Etheria,” “Majika,” “Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan,” “Gagambino,” “Legacy,” and “Biritera.”

Of course, everything remains up in the air for now.

“After ng contract na ‘yun [with GMA], siyempre may mga negotiations, e. So, hindi ko pa alam. Marami pang puwedeng mangyari sa isang taon, so tingnan na lang natin,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Dennis will be spending Christmas with his family, son Calix, and other relatives. Asked what his gift for Calix is, he revealed that he would like to grant his son’s request for them to go camping.

“Gusto kong maghanap ng isang lugar na ano, e, may body of water—like beach or waterfalls—kung saan puwedeng mag-camp kasi mahilig din siya mag-swimming,” he said in the same interview.

A Filipina registered nurse licensed in California, her husband, and minor son are in removal proceedings with the Los Angeles Immigration Court ( I.J. Philip J. Costa) because their applications for adjustment of status to permanent residence were denied, despite approval of the underlying employer’s Form I-140 immigrant visa petition for her.

The ground for denial of their I-485 applications for adjustment of status by the USCIS was that the Filipina RN had failed “to provide any documentation showing (she) held a valid nonimmigrant or other lawful status from the time (her) H1B status expired in November 11, 2004 until the…application for adjustment was filed on July 26, 2007, a period in excess of two and one-half years.” Due to the denial of their individual application for adjustment of status, the entire family of three was placed in removal proceedings by ICE by the issuance of Notices to Appear before the Los Angeles Immigration Court.

RNs Caught By Delay In Visa Screen:The Filipina RN is one of many caught by the

delay in the issuance of the VisaScreen by the CGFNS International

due to English language requirements and their failure to maintain immigrant status, to be able to adjust to permanent residence in the United States. Under Section 245(k) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, an applicant for adjustment of status may adjust, provided that he or she does not fail to maintain lawful status, nor engage in unauthorized employment, or otherwise violate the terms and conditions in excess of 180 days.

But even if the failure to maintain nonimmigrant status exceeds 180 days, adjustment of status may still be granted, if the applicant is grandfathered under section 245(i) of the Immigration And Nationality Act, provided he or she is the beneficiary of

an immigrant petition under section 204, or labor certification, which was filed on or before January 14, 1998. Moreover, section 245(i) was further amended on December 21, 2000, to include applicants who are beneficiaries of an immigrant petition under section 204 or labor certification filed on or before April 30, 2001, provided they are physically present in the United States on the December 21, 2000 enactment date. If grandfathered under section 245(i), they must submit Supplement A to Form I-485 and pay the penalty of $1,000.00.

Alternative Remedies in Removal Proceedings:This Author currently represents the Filipina

RN and her family at the removal proceedings before Los Angeles Immigration Judge Philip J. Costa, Presiding Judge of Courtroom L. Their Identities are withheld to protect their privacy and maintain confidentiality. Prior Immigration Judge David Anderson had allowed the filing of new Form I-485 applications for adjustments of status for all of the three family members, which are pending adjudication by current Immigration Judge Philip J. Costa. On the basis of which, the Filipina RN and her husband obtained employment authorization up to January 31, 2014.

But the position of the Department of Homeland Security, through its Deputy District Counsel, is that the Filipina RN and her family are not eligible for adjustment of status due to their failure to maintain their immigration status. If adjustment is not granted by the Immigration Court, the other viable alternative remedies are voluntary departure for the parents and deferred action for the minor child. They have not been in the United States for 10 years to qualify for cancellation of removal; and the Filipina RN and the minor son have no qualifying relatives.

Delay in the issuance of the VisaScreen by the CGFNS International to the Filipina RN, required by the USCIS at that time, cost them their lawful permanent resident status.

HEART Evangelista ends 2012 with a new movie, GMA Films’ “Sosy Problems” that’s an entry in the Metro filmfest, and starts 2013 with a new soap, “Forever,” opposite Geoff Eigenmann.

“Nakakatuwa kasi tuluy-tuloy ang work ko,” she says.

Someone quips she currently seems to be lucky in both love and career as her romance with Sen. Chiz Escudero is also doing well.

What’s her role in “Sosy Problems?” “I like my role here as Claudia, anak ng isang dating international beauty queen. Model ako na part time actress, nagho-host din and forever on a diet.”

Looks like the peg for her character is Isabelle Daza, daughter of former Bb. Universe Gloria Diaz. We heard Isabelle herself was considered for the movie but she got busy shooting a film with John Lloyd Cruz for Star Cinema.

“My best friend in ‘Sosy Problems’ is Solenn Heussaff, who’s really a good friend of Isabelle in real life,” adds Heart. “Pero sa movie, love-hate ang relationship namin ni Solenn as Margaux. May secret rivalry kami, parehong sosyal na fashionista, at kailangan, kung ano meron yung isa, meron din yung isa. Ang ultimate na pinag-awayan namin is a boy, played by Aljur Abrenica who’s a hunky lifeguard-handyman in a hotel na pareho naming gustong maging boy toy. The movie is a social comedy at marami kaming funny scenes while trying to seduce Aljur in our own way.”

Off cam, it’s common knowledge she’s on with Sen. Escudero. How does she feel about their big age gap and the accusation

he’s just using her for his political career now that he’s running for reelection? “About his being older, okay lang yun. I learn so much from him as he’s more mature than me in so many ways. And I don’t think he’s using me for his political career. Number one siya sa surveys, he doesn’t have to use anyone.”

JUDY Ann Santos is glad that after last year’s “My Househusband,” she now has another entry in this year’s filmfest, “Si Agimat, si Enteng Kabisote at si Ako.” This is her second film this year after “Mga Mumunting Lihim” that won for her and her co-stars both the best actress and best supporting actress awards in the Cinemalaya Filmfest last July. Didn’t she hesitate to accept her new movie considering that Ai Ai de las Alas was the first one considered for the role?

“Walang second thoughts at all, tinanggap ko agad,” she says. “Makakasama ko sina Sen. Bong at Bossing Vic in one movie, choosy pa ba ako gayong first time mangyayari ito sa career ko at kasama pa nila ako sa title? It’s a great honor and experience to be working with them. Kung may hesitation man, it’s because baka mag-expect silang sinlakas ako ni Miss Ai Ai na ilang beses nang nag-topgrosser ang movies sa filmfest. I was honest in telling them na hindi ko naman kaya yung type ng comedy ni Ms. Ai Ai. Mamaya, hindi ito manguna, ako pang masisi. But tanggap naman nilang iba yung diskarte ko. Gusto ko ang role ko rito as an environmentalist, protector ng kalikasan. Ganda, di ba? At Inglisera pa ako rito, ha. Kakaibang challenge nito for me kaya tense ako noong

simula. Later on, magiging engkantada pa ako rito, haliparot na fairy dahil type ko pareho sina Agimat at Enteng. Talagang I had fun with my role kaya so thankful akong napasama ako rito sa ‘Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako’. Very big blessing ito for me this Christmas.” good year for Cesar

CESAR Montano and wife Sunshine Cruz personally watched Manny Pacquiao’s humbling last fight with Marquez in Las Vegas. Like most other Pinoys who saw Pacquiao being knocked down, they felt sad about it but just thankful that it didn’t seriously injure him and he’s now okay.

“Kahit natalo siya ngayon, he has

brought so much honor to our country before so we should all continue to support him,” he says. “When he celebrates his birthday on Monday, December 17, we will be there at his party to celebrate with him in GenSan.”

Cesar is helping Gov. ER Ejercito promote their filmfest entry, the historical epic “El Presidente” where Cesar plays Andres Bonifacio to ER’s Emilio Aguinaldo. He’s really so busy these days as he has a new movie, “The Turning Cradle: Untold Story of Mayor Alfredo Lim,” and a new TV soap, “Never Say Goodbye” with Nora Aunor and Alice Dixson on TV5.

“2012 is ending well for me with a prestigious entry sa filmfest like ‘El Presidente’ at magiging maganda naman ang pasok ng 2013 with my new movie na ‘Turning Cradle’ and new TV show na ‘Never Ever Say Goodbye’,” he beams proudly.

sen. bong, Vic take potshots at kris

SENATOR Bong Revilla and Bossing Vic Sotto were more game answering questions during their grand presscon for their Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “Si Agimat; Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako” with Judy Ann Santos than in their previous interviews.

When asked to react on what they can say about Kris Aquino’s pronouncement about her movie, Sisterakas with Vice Ganda and Ai Ai de las Alas being the sure number one at the boxoffice, Bossing Vic said in a sarcastic (rather funny) manner: “Eh di sila na,” while Sen. Bong said: “Baka mali siya ngayon.”

But quickly, Sen. Bong made amend saying, “Basta, we hope na kumita lahat ang mga kasaling pelikula.”

Well, it’s really hard to predict this early. While Vice Ganda and Ai Ai have previously chalked up some records at the box office, we can never tell until the first week of the filmfest. Sisterakas has quite a not familiar title, while Si Agimat and Enteng have built in audience already.

TWO hunks are the special guests tonight at 6p.m. in Camille Prats and Suzi Entrata’s GMA News TV’s show for women, “Mars”: Rafael Rosell and Ronnie Liang. Ronnie will sing his current hit single, “Akala Mo”, from his new album with Viva Records. Rafael will talk about his first hit soap on GMA, “Pahiram ng Sandali”, and show to prepare fish wraps. They will then demonstrate how to make Christmas decors from empty cans and discuss with the hosts how to deal with high maintenance girlfriends. “Mars” will also show how to get the fit body you deserve through speed ropes and ab mats.

Tomorrow, the special guest are Danica Sotto and former beauty queen-actress Daisy Reyes. Danica shows how to make toast topped with creamy chicken and mushrooms while Daisy will show how to make your own slippers from scratch.

Another guest is actor Leandro Baldemor who shows how to be street smart in haggling or “making tawad” when you buy something in the market. What are the techniques to convince vendors to lower their prices?

angelica needs ChangeTURNING 26 with a new

significant other in the person of John Lloyd Cruz, Angelica Panganiban is indeed poised for change at the deeply personal level that seems to have spilled into the professional area of her life as an actress.

Except for roles wherein she would have to play mother which she admitted she does not like, Angelica claims in an interview that the direction for her to take would be to play mature roles along the lines of the character she portrays in her year-ender project “One More Try” with Dingdong Dantes wherein she is cast as Dingdong’s bride.

Angelica added that having had played teenybooper, comedy, underdog do-gooder and sexy roles in the past, she intends to be like Kathryn Bernardo, who is her home network’s drama princess and whose wardrobe style she uses as inspiration for the design of her own outfits.

Being someone who does not really believe in New Year’s

Resolutions, Angelica maintains that she can effect changes in her life anytime she wants and that she does not have to wait for the year to end before making the change.

Embarking on another television series next year entitled “Apoy Sa Dagat” opposite Piolo Pascual and Diether Ocampo, it would seem that Angelica is well on her way

to sharpen her craft on drama as early as now!

For a free-spirit like Angelica, a flexible attitude toward change is really not surprising. However, nothing could be more vulnerable to the impact of changes than the world of show business. For instance, Angelica and the rest of the talents of the giant networks should be able to deal with the fickle interest of the viewing public, the uncertainty and elusiveness of the X-factor that would sell projects.

Would Angelica and her manager take stock of the agents of change of the local entertainment industry and learn how to manage the ever-changing tastes and sometimes unexpected demands of the viewing public or would Angelica just take what is being offered in terms of projects not mind where it would lead her in terms of versatility as an actress in order to improve sustainability of her career in show business?

enchong says he and Julia were never on

ENCHONG Dee says it’s not true that he and rumored girlfriend Julia Montes are not speaking to each other after they broke up.

“Nagtataka nga kami kung bakit nasulat na nag-break kami, e wala namang ibi-break kasi never pa naman naging kami,” says Enchong. “Ni wala pa nga kaming inaamin, break na agad.

We’re okay naman, we’re good together. Nagawa nga namin ang filmfest entry naming ‘The Strangers’ nang maayos so how can they say na hindi kami nag-uusap when we have so many scenes na kaming magkasama together in the movie.”

But Julia admitted they now seldom see each other. “That’s true kasi she was abroad for about a month with the TFC tour. First, she was in the U.S., then dinala naman siya sa Europe, then balik uli sa U.S.”

Julia’s Lola Flor corroborated this. “Matagal kaming nawala.Kasama ako ni Julia sa abroad. Naging friends sila ni Enchong, pero hindi naging sila. Magkaibigan lang talaga.”

Enchong adds: “Nagkita na lang kami uli ni Julia sa presscon ng ‘The Strangers’ as we’re really both busy. We’re also together promoting the movie. Ako, gusto ko talaga ang role ko rito as Dolfo kasi binago ang hitsura ko. Taong bundok ako rito so may balbas

sen. bong hands off on ChiLdRen’s LoVeLife

SEN. Bong Revilla is busy this holiday season not only because he has a filmfest entry, “Si Agimat, si Enteng Kabisote at si Ako”, but because he and his family are doing so many gift giving activities for their constituents since wife Lani Mercado is a representative and son Jolo Revilla is a barangay captain. “Gusto naming makatulong para lumigaya ang Pasko ng ibang tao,” he says. “Yun naman ang essence ng Christmas, ’di ba? Give love on Christmas Day. Pero ‘yung Noche Buena, reserved lang for our family pati ang pagsisimba namin ng sama-sama.”

He’s optimistic “Si Agimat, si Enteng Kabisote at si Ako” will be a huge hit. “Saludo ako sa co-stars kong sina Vic Sotto at Judy Ann Santos, pati kina Jose and Wally, Gwen Zamora, Aiza Seguerra,

John Lapus, Sam Pinto, my son Jolo and child stars Jillian Ward and Ryzza Mae Dizon, kasi lahat nagtulong-tulong para mapaganda ang movie. We’re the only action adventure-fantasy-comedy kaya kung ang hanap mo, pure entertainment during the Christmas season, this is the perfect movie for the whole family complete with an environmental message.”

Although Jolo has yet to formally admit his relationship with Jodi Sta. Maria, it’s quite obvious they’re already on. What can he say about this?

“I don’t interfere sa lovelife ng mga anak ko. Jolo is of age and he can make his own decisions about his lovelife. Ang request ko lang, huwag silang magmadali at magpakasal agad.”

no netwoRk waRONE filmfest entry that

succeeded in making Kapuso, Kapamilya and Kapatid stars work with each other is “Shake, Rattle & Roll 14”. No wonder Mother Lily Monteverde is happy because there’s no network war for Shake and she can promote her movie in all channels.

The first episode, “Pamana”, has mostly ABS stars like Janice de Belen, Arlene Muhlach, Empress, Ivan Dorschner and Dimples Romana. Only one is from GMA, Fabio Ide, who plays Dracula. The independent stars here are QC Mayor Herbert Bautista and child actor Gerald Pesigan.

In “Unwanted”, the stars are GMA’s Lovi Poe, ABS Vhong Navarro, Albie Casino and Chokoleit, and TV5’s Eula Caballero. The independents here are the CGI creatures from outer space who will scare the cast

members when they get trapped inside a mall that collapsed after a big explosion caused by the aliens.

In the last episode, the action-horror episode “Lost Command”, the stars are GMA’s Dennis Trillo, JC Tiuseco and AJ Dee, ABS Paulo Avelino, Ella Cruz and Makisig Morales, and TV5’s Martin Escudero.

“In scope, budget and casting, this is the most ambitious ‘Shake’ movie so far,” adds Mother Lily. “It’s financially and emotionally draining to do. Buti na lang very dedicated sa project si Direk Chito Roño. Talagang tinutukan niya ang bawat aspeto ng movie from the writing of the script nina Ricky Lee, Roi Iglesias and Rody Vera, hanggang sa iba’t ibang technical aspects, lalo na ang CGI special effects to make the movie truly scary.”

by Boy AbundaThe Buzz kC’s heart is at peace

KC Concepcion looks radiant these days. “My heart is at peace knowing that there are really good guys out there,” she said during an interview in The Buzz.Undoubtedly, KC was referring to her French suitor Pierre Emmanuel Plassart who is a photographer, filmmaker and writer. The two met in an international event. Pierre surprised KC when in Boracay, he named a star after her. If Pierre could only give KC the heavens or pluck the moon above, I think he would do it just to prove his love for her.KC also told me, “They said when you want to ask God for something, you pray

about it and be specific and believe with all your heart as if He already gave it to you.” She fervently prayed for seven straight days last December, several months after her highly-publicized break-up with Piolo Pascual.“I really wrote down in Post-it notes all the things I want in a guy.” KC then put the notes on her headboard until she had seven to eight Post-its pasted on top of her bed. “God gave me everything I posted until the very last detail,” she said.KC only has good words about Pierre. “Pierre is a very kind person. Marami tayong nakikilalang lalaki na inaral ang pagiging gentleman and that’s a great thing. Pero ito talaga, Tito Boy, since he was a baby until he grew up, hanggang ngayon na na-meet ko na siya, ito iyong masasabi kong tunay. It’s the real thing talaga. He’s a true gentleman.”Asked about his best quality, KC answered, “He’s not giving up.”Although KC and Pierre are getting closer, it doesn’t mean that she is in a rush to enter into a new romantic relationship. She explained that this is the time to get busy from work. “Honestly, iyong pagiging single, mas creative ako ’pag wala akong ibang iniisip. I want to still explore kung ano ang mangyayari pa hanggang independent girl pa mode ko ngayon.”

Karylle and Christian Bautista starred together in the revival of Rama Hari which was staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). They previously worked together in the hit Asian television musical series The Kitchen Musical where Karylle played Maddie Avilon while Christian was her childhood friend Daniel Ray. A few years ago, they appeared together on Stages’ production of West Side Story where they portrayed star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria.

Little did the public know that Karylle and Christian briefly dated each other after the singer-actress separated from former boyfriend Dingdong Dantes. “There was a time during West Side Story (na) nagkagustuhan kami ng kaunti. But I knew where she was coming from,” Christian admitted in The Buzz. “Ako kasi hindi ako ligaw agad. Nagiging friends muna and then sometimes we do go out.”

Karylle explained, “That time, I was really broken-hearted. Everyone kept telling me, don’t rush into love. And since he was such a good friend, I didn’t want to mess that up.”

“During that time, everyone told me to date everyone. Since I didn’t have self-esteem, I didn’t know how to pick up the pieces. So that’s what I did, I went out on dates.” Their friendly dates gave them the chance to get to know more about each other.

Now, they are both happy with their respective love life. Christian is in

better Lovers on stage?a romantic relationship with Carla Dunareanu, his co-star in The Kitchen Musical, while Karylle is going out with Yael Yuzon, Spongecola’s lead vocalist.

Although they did not end up together, Karylle and Christian have remained good friends. And the best partners onstage. “I admit that when we’re onstage together kinikilig talaga ako. And I’ve allowed myself that. Parang feeling ko di man kami nagkatuluyan, nagkatuluyan kami sa stage. That”s the alternate universe, that in another time and place, we ended up together. And it happens every so often,” Karylle admitted.

Alam kong madami akong matututunan sa kanya, so, I’m really excited,” nakangiting bungad ni Gerald.

What attracted me is ’yung kuwento talaga,” paglalarawan ng binata.

“I’m taking it slow. She means a lot to me but I’m taking it slow. Isang pagkakamali ko noon pa man is to just really jump into something, eventually nagpe-fade rin. I’m not getting any younger. Kung may papasukan man akong love life, gusto ko sana ’yun na ’yun,” bungad ni Jake.

Bukas din ang aktor sa pagsasabing malaki ang paghanga niya kay Lovi at marami talagang lalaki ang nagkakagusto sa aktres.

“Lovi is an amazing woman. She’s such a beautiful girl. Kahit naman sinong lalaki masasabi ’yun about her. Sobrang bait at sobrang ganda niya. I’m just really amazed by her,” pagtatapat ni Jake.

“Mahirap mag-expect eh. I just let things fall into place. ’Yun na lang, tuloy ang pagkakaibigan,” giit pa ng aktor.

Lovi poe throws up backstage

on ‘party pilipinas’MANILA, Philippines – Kapuso

actress Lovi Poe had everyone worried when she vomited while inside the “Party Pilipinas” dressing room.

Because of this, her production number on GMA-7’s Sunday musical variety show had to be canceled as she had to be wheeled off to a hospital.

“Kanina sa ‘Party Pilipinas’ meron isang unfortunate thing na nangyari. Kasi si Lovi Poe dapat po, eh, kasama natin kanina sa ‘Party Pilipinas’ at dapat makakasama natin ngayon dito pero backstage ay may nangyari. She started throwing up, nagsusuka po si Lovi kanina so hindi natin [siya] nakasama sa ‘Party P,’” host Raymond Gutierrez related during the opening segment of “H.O.T. TV” recently.

Before the show wrapped up, Raymond was able to do a phone interview with Lovi.

“I’m resting lang now,” Lovi shared.“I’m not feeling so good yet. Ayun,

I’m actually sorry. I feel so bad [that] I didn’t get to perform sa ‘Party P’ kanina,” she added.

Lovi related that she tried to overcome the pain she felt “but then hindi ko nga mapilit kasi hindi ko talaga kaya.”

She explained that she was “having acid blocks, so [dahil sa] over fatigue siya.”

This was apparently caused by her heavy work load as “I haven’t been resting for like months now.”

Doctor’s adviceLovi was told by doctors to slow down

a bit.“Actually, ‘yun lagi ang sinasabi sa

akin,” she quipped, adding, “I can’t find time yet to rest just yet.”

However, she conceded, “Siguro ‘pag Christmas break na, siguro doon muna ako babawi, not ganitong time, eh. Although I’m not complaining, my body is though. Pero kaya pa naman. Konting

pahinga lang siguro [ang kailangan].”Lovie has two entries in the Metro Manila

Film Festival, namely “Thy Womb” and “Shake, Rattle & Roll.”

“Gusto kong mag-apologize for H.O.T. TV kasi hindi ako nakapunta diyan,” she said, feeling bad for not being able to promote her MMFF movies.

baron geisler at it againMANILA, Philippines – Actor Baron

Geisler did it again. This time, the troubled actor, who

is said to be fighting depression and alcoholism, caused a commotion at the TV 5 ball Tuesday when he

quarelled with the station’s talents Edgar Allan Guzman and IC Mendoza and stole a kiss from Divine Lee, according to Guzman’s manager, Noel Ferrer.

In November, Geisler was arrested after punching a neighbour.

Vegafria disclosed that Geisler has a “chemical imbalance and was undergoing treatment”.

Geisler was released after to his family.

angelica shares details on Relationship with Lloydy

MANILA, Philippines – Angelica Panganiban certainly lives by the motto “happiness is best when shared” that’s why she has finally revealed how long she and John Lloyd Cruz have been officially together: five months.

“Siyempre hindi na ‘ko nagpakipot. Bakit pa ko magpapakipot? Alam ko namang gusto ko siya,” she said on “Kris TV.”

One of the best things about Lloydy, according to Angelica, is that he exerts effort to reach out to those dear to her, including her grandmother who has dementia. And in the fourth anniversary episode of her gag show “Banana Split Extra Scoop” last October, Angelica recalled that Lloydy even brought food and flowers for the whole gang including their director Bobot Mortiz.

“Mahal niya lahat ng mahal ko. Okay siyang makisama,” she said.

Angelica also speaks highly of Lloydy to her US-based biological father, Mark

Charlson. In one of her Instagram posts a few weeks ago, the Kapamilya actress described John Lloyd to Mark as “best actor of his generation.”

“I’m trying my best to be as good as him. (But thats not gonna happen) I am his biggest fan ever since. I just want to be enough, compared to my idol. There’s just too much pressure…” she added.

In spite of being two of the busiest stars of ABS-CBN, making time for each other has never been an issue for Angelica and Lloydy.

“Siguro ‘pag gusto mo rin naman talagang gawan ng paraan, like minsan ‘pag maagang natatapos ‘yung trabaho, nakakakain pa kami sa labas o lalabas pa kami o kasama ‘yung mga kaibigan ko,” she related.

And if they fight, it’s just the petty kind.

“‘Yung away namin, pikunan… Kasi mahilig ‘yun mang-amoy ng kili-kili. Eh siyempre naman minsan ‘di ba ‘yung tama na dahil naiinis na ko,” she said.

From sweet gestures such as cooking for Angelica, to loving her for who she is – even without makeup on, she said --- it looks like the 26-year-old award-winning actress has found a keeper in Lloydy.

“‘Yung ganda, ‘pag tanda mo kukulubot din ‘yung balat mo ‘di ba? Pero kung ano ‘yung meron ka, ‘yung relationship niyo, kung ano ‘yung nagustuhan niyo sa isa’t-isa, ‘yung ugali niya, ‘yung ugali mo, ‘yun ‘yung magpapatibay sa inyo forever,” she said.

James on kris: Christmas naman,

peace na lang

KRIS Aquino earlier declared she doesn’t want to be friends again with ex-hubby James Yap. When asked about this, James says he’s confident this most recent case of misunderstanding between them will soon be ironed out. “Maaayos din yan,” he says. “May anak kami, si Bimby,

alangan namang maging magkaaway kami for life. Hindi naman puwede ang ganun.”

He no longer wants to talk about what caused the gap between them. “Ayoko nang mag-comment, baka mas lumaki pa at sumbatan kami ng anak namin, bakit kailangan pang ipaalam sa public? Christmas naman, peace na lang.”

Meantime, Kris and Ai Ai de las Alas deny they’re eyeing the Metro filmfest best actress award. They say they’re not concerned about awards for their entry, “Sisterakas.” “Mas gusto naming maraming kitain sa takilya ang movie namin,” says Ai Ai. “Sa kanila na ‘yung awards.”

“Siyempre we prefer box office success kasi co-producers kami ng ‘Sisterakas’ along with Vice Ganda,” adds Kris. “Sa budget nito, 50% ang share ng Star Cinema, 25% percent ang sa Viva Films, tapos ang natitirang 25%, hati-hati kaming tatlo.”

“Uso yun sa Hollywood, di ba?” adds Ai Ai. “Kaya nakikiuso rin po kami. Feeling namin, kami sina Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie na may share of the profits sa movies nila!”

secret lovers caught in fb photo

Pretty Starlet keeps denying that she and Hunky Actor are a couple.

PS, however, had been spotted waltzing in and out of HA’s condo unit building by kibitzers.

In another instance, PS visited the set of HA’s latest project.

An over-enthusiastic production staffer innocently posted on Facebook a photo of HA and PS together.

The unintentional outing will surely make PS and HA’s respective handlers go ballistic.

air rage Acclaimed Actress is purportedly a

nightmare to travel with, according to a flight attendant.

During one flight, AA was allegedly quite rude to FA. Moreover, AA was a chatterbox as well. Needless to say, AA’s seatmate felt “hostaged” throughout the trip.

Another Veteran Actress is just as obnoxious. VA supposedly expects to be upgraded every time she flies abroad.

VA brazenly throws her weight around, bullying the poor crew.

TE1 reportedly earns millions a month, while TE2 lavishes various hunks with expensive gifts.

Seems the TEs are trying to upstage Marie Antoinette.

While they roll around in dough, they have the chutzpah to ask their underlings to sacrifice and not claim overtime pay.

party girls embarrass mentors

Pretty Starlet, product of a reality search, caused a bit of a commotion in a watering hole recently.

The reason? A bartender had refused to serve her a heady cocktail. That’s because PS is a minor; the server was only playing it safe.

PS had earlier raised a ruckus at another party and was already drunk when she got to the bar.

Still, she wanted one for the road! ’Tis the season to get soused?

Apart from liquor, rumor has it that PS has a hankering for older men with fat wallets.

seductress strikes outStunning Sweetheart, who graduated

from the same reality show as PS, is a marked woman.

As soon as the contest ended, SS went wild, bar-hopping every night and partying like there was no tomorrow.

Worse, she targeted the show’s Big Winner as a romantic prospect. Though they were not being built up as a tandem, SS thought nothing of seducing BW, ignoring studio bosses and the guy’s Poor Partner.

SS swiftly got her comeuppance because BW didn’t fall for her wayward charms.

Judy Ann Santos, asked if she plans on having a new baby: “Napapag-usapan kasi kapag nakikita mo ’yung bata, parang ang sarap kapag marami sila. Pero ’yung practicality, when it sets in… Ipon-ipon muna.” (And in this economy?)

Kapuso for the next five years.

Regine slams Retirement suggestionsMANILA, Philippines – Regine Velasquez rebuffed

notions that she is now mulling retirement following the controversial debacle relating to the disastrous staging of “Silver” last November.

The singer’s 25th year showbiz anniversary concert was cut short after she lost her voice midway through a performance due to a virus.

“Hindi pa naman... I’m not thinking that far off. These things happen naman talaga eh, and although oo, nuong una medyo napraning talaga ako, hindi naman ako dumating sa… inisip ko na tumigil sa pagkanta,” she explained in an interview with Bulletin Entertainment, Wednesday.

To prove her point, Velasquez is restaging the concert next year, on Jan. 5.

“Tuloy na tuloy na ito and I wish everyone would come para naman maipakita ko sa kanila ang dapat ay napanood nila the last time around,” she said.

Losing her voice was a big lesson for Velasquez. She admitted that she had been lackadaisical on the days leading to the concert, health-wise.

“Inalagaan ko naman ang katawan ko pero my doctor explained to me na masyado nabugbog ang katawan ko,” she said. “Kasi ‘di ba nga nabuntis ako so [I was dealing with] hormonal changes, then tumaba ako, tapos nagpapayat naman ako, then nagkasakit ‘yung anak ko at ako nag-alaga so ayun…ang daming nagyari. Pero now, I’m making sure na hindi na mangyayari ‘yun.”

Velasquez says she is now managing her diet responsibly, making sure she gets all the nutrients she

needs.“More than that, rest talaga,” she said. “Kailangan

lang ko kasi talaga pahinga, particularly my voice; so ‘yun yung ginagawa ko ngayon.”

It was the overwhelming love and support showed by fans that allowed

Velasquez the strength and courage to move on from the setback.

“Oo, nalungkot talaga ako ng una pero ‘yung support na pinakita ng mga tao, grabe. So ang sa akin, I felt na I have to give it back to them somehow,” she said.

Velasquez promises a bigger and better performance on the day of the concert.

“Maraming numbers dito na hindi nila nakita du’n sa una so we will do that. Then siyempre, babaguhin naming ang simula, basta we really are trying to make it very special for everyone,” she assured.

But what if she loses her voice again? She responds with a laugh, “Eh wala, ano gagawin

nonito donaire back in the ph, Vows to ‘keep

getting better’

MANILA, Philippines - Despite winning all his fights this year, Nonito Donaire, Jr. doesn’t want to become complacent in his career but is even more determined to sharpen his boxing skills.

Although he feels honored by commendations that he be declared Fighter of the Year or be inducted to the Hall of Fame for his victories, the celebrated boxer admitted on “Umagang Kay Ganda (UKG)” that he’s not in it for those things.

“For me, ginagawa ko lang lahat ng makakaya ko inside that ring and kung anuman ang opinyon ng mga tao at vote ng mga tao, and ng mga sportswriters, then I’m honored. I always leave it up sa mga votes ng mga tao,” he said.

He seems to be on top of his game right now yet Nonito deems he can still learn and do more.

“Sabi ko sa sarili ko, the moment na huminto ako to learn I shouldn’t be in that ring. So I should keep getting better and better. ‘Pag nasa loob ako ng ring, parang nakikita nila na all flaws, but all

[those] flaws can lead to a knockout because counterpuncher ako eh… Binibigyan ko sila ng pagkakataon na itapon ‘yon but I always capitalize on their mistakes. I just keep getting better,” he said.

The Filipino Flash’s recent triumph—knocking out Mexican Jorge Arce in the third round—was welcome news and source of pride among Filipinos following the devastating loss of Manny Pacquiao to Juan Manuel Marquez last week—something that both inspired and pressured Nonito to do very well in his own match.

“Pero sabi ko sa sarili ko na ibibigay ko lang lahat ng makakaya ko. I think there’s no shame in that kahit anong mangyari. But I really wanted to knock Arce out kasi gusto ng mga tao ‘yon ‘di ba, na ma-excite sila?” said he.

Asked if he’s willing to fight JuanMa to “avenge” Pacman, Nonito exclaimed, “Sige, tara na!”

In a separate interview on “Unang Hirit,” though, Nonito expressed his openness to fight anyone—”kung sino man ‘yung pangalang nasa kontrata.”

Nonito returned to the country Wednesday morning sans his wife Rachel, which was quite unusual since she would always accompany him in all his engagements.

The boxer explained that they were advised to rest since “we’re so tired this whole year kasi grabe ‘yung training ko.”

But is his better half already heavy with child?

“We’re hoping, but right now it’s just more of relaxing. Kailangan namin eh. Actually we haven’t been home sa bahay namin, it’s always in the hotel and training camp for this year. Maybe we can try din,” he said on “UKG,” laughing.

sporTs commuNITyfifa Ranking:

azkals fall to 147thA solid showing in the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup could not prevent the Philippines

from falling four places in the latest rankings released by the International Football Federation (Fifa).

The Azkals dropped to 147 from a high of 143, despite winning two of their five matches on their way to reaching the Suzuki Cup semifinals for the second straight tournament as well as beating Singapore in their buildup.

Still, the Azkals’ ranking is the highest year-end position of the country since the ranking system was instituted in 1992.

Fifa, which not only considers the result, but the importance of the match and the strength of the opposition and the continental federation, gave the Azkals 174 ranking points during the past month. The ranking system also considers results since 2009.

The Azkals defeated Vietnam, 1-0, and Myanmar, 2-0. They failed to pick up points in losses to Thailand and Singapore, which are disputing the Suzuki Cup.

Playing more matches this year, the Azkals, who dropped to third-best in the region behind Vietnam and Thailand, have significantly increased their average points collection with 109 points a month for 2012, up by more than 20 from last year.

Cristine wants to spend Christmas with araSi Cristine Reyes ang bagong mukha

ng Calayan Surgicenter nina Dr. Manny and Pie Calayan. Ini-launch siya last Monday night sa Intercon Hotel, Makati kasabay ang Christmas party for the entertainment press.

“I hope. Ako, I hope. Hindi napuputol ’yung hope ko,” she said.

out. My sister Heidi is communicating with her and she still doesn’t want to talk to me. I think hindi puwedeng pilitin, so, huwag nating madaliin,” aniya.

So, willing siyang maghintay?“Yes, until mag-soften ang heart

niya.”Ano ang Christmas gift niya for Ate

Ara?“Wala pa akong Christmas shopping

kasi. Dapat today, kaso busy ang

schedule, so, hopefully this week, makapag-Christmas shopping na ako.”

“Ako naman, kahit hindi Pasko or New Year, dapat talaga mag-reconcile. Kasi, para naman ’yun sa ikabubuti ng lahat. Para hindi na mabigat sa dibdib. Kaya hindi mo dapat hintayin ang Pasko or New

Year para mag-reconcile. And I’m hoping na sana, pagbigyan ako,” she said.

Bagong Taon na, so, bagong buhay. Kailangan lagi kang merong gagawing bago for new year,” say niya.

To be honest, kasama ko siya, nasa amin siya kanina, so, ayun.”

“Two years na ang relationship namin pero three years na kaming magkakilala. So, in a span of three years, kilalang-kilala na niya ako, as in.

I think, kailangan nila ng karakter ni Thou more than Joross.

You know it’s December when shows have a little more zing and panache.

On Dec. 1, 2012, Filipino jazz artists in the Los Angeles area got the merry month off to a swinging start when they performed during the Eighth Annual Fil-Am Jazz Festival.

The festival, organized by JazzPhil-USA, an L.A.-based nonprofit that promotes Filipino-American jazz, has been the prime showcase for the Fil-Am community’s biggest and brightest jazz stars. This year’s show, held at Catalina Bar and Grill in Hollywood, was no different.

Perhaps the most acclaimed to take the stage was singer Mon David, winner of the London International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2006 and one of the Philippines’ most celebrated jazz artists. Since moving to the U.S. in 2007 he has developed a following with his powerful voice and high-energy performances, quickly becoming a mainstay at shows that feature both Filipino and non-Filipino talents. At Catalina, David sang “Summertime” and a couple of Tagalog songs.

Also appearing at the show were singer Jaclyn Rose and saxophonist Mathew Muneses, the two winners of JazzPhil-USA’s talent search in October. Rose, who combines jazz with funk and soul, performed “Afro Blue” and led the band in a swinging rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke.” Muneses played Adam Larson’s “Without” and the Michael Jackson tune “The Way You Make Me Feel.”

Another talent search winner, Eric Baul, who topped the competition in 2009, took the stage and sang his signature song, “April in Paris.”

A rarity in jazz also was on stage—a harp, courtesy of New York-based jazz harpist Riza Printup. Her husband Marcus Printup, trumpet player for N.Y.’s Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, accompanied her on Jobim’s “Corvocado” and two original numbers: “Before Dawn” and “Lullaby for Nanay” (“Lullaby for Mother”).

Another rare treat for the audience was the appearance of a group of artists from the Philippines: Romy Posadas, Sandra

Viray and Jun Viray. First to take the stage was Posadas, one

of the Philippines’ most renowned jazz pianists. Posadas, 80, plays regularly at the Manila Hotel’s Tap Room, one of the Philippine capital’s most prestigious jazz venues, and was at the festival to receive JazzPhil-USA’s lifetime achievement award.

After a brief awarding ceremony he took to the keys, accompanied by Jun Viray on drums and J.P. Maramba on bass. Then Sandra Viray joined them on stage for “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and other numbers.

Each year JazzPhil-USA lines up a virtual “who’s who” of Filipino jazz during the festival, but as if that weren’t enough, this year it also debuted the First Filipino-American Big Band, a 12-piece ensemble led by two festival regulars, pianist Winston Raval and drummer Abe Lagrimas Jr.

Lagrimas, it’s worth noting here, was a semifinalist in this year’s Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Drums Competition. On the other hand, Raval, who received a lifetime achievement award from the San Francisco Filipino-American Jazz Festival in 2011, remains to be one of the most talented and prolific composers in contemporary Filipino jazz.

Under the pair’s direction, the First Filipino-American Big Band, which featured a youthful group of brass players, added a fresh note to an event that has become a jazz mainstay at Catalina each December. The band also served as a fitting accompaniment to the musical treats throughout the night.

And there were many musical treats. Whether jazz standards, Filipino compositions or Tagalog songs—co-host Charmaine Clamor, who’s known for her “jazzipino” style (jazz combined with Filipino elements), also sang two Philippine classics, “Ikaw” (“You”) and “Dahil Sa ‘Yo” (“Because of You”)—the numbers showed that this event is definitely the one to watch to catch the biggest headliners in Fil-Am jazz.

The festival was co-hosted by KKJZ 88.1 FM deejay Bubba Jackson.

philippines Rejoices as Janine tugonon wins miss universe 1st Runner-up MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines’ Janine Tugonon went into

the Miss Universe pageant determined, composed, and every bit the beauty queen that she is.

And for that, she gave the best performance by any contestant from the Philippines so far in the competition, finishing runner-up to Miss USA’s Olivia Culpo during the coronation night at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino,Las Vegas, Nevada.

Janine showed extreme poise and intelligence in answering the question from judge Nigel Barker who asked: As an international ambassador do you believe that speaking English is a prerequisite to be Miss Universe? Why or why not?

In her response, Janine said, “For me being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language, it’s about being able to influence and inspire other people. So whatever language you have as long as your heart is deserving and you have a strong mind to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe.”

Joining Olivia and Janine in the top 5 are Miss Venezuela Irene Sofia Esser Quintero, Miss Australia Renae Ayris, and Miss Brazil Gabriela Markus.

Janine’s finish continues the impressive performance by the Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant beginning with Venus Raj in 2010 (4th runner-up) and Shamcey Supsup in 2011 (3rd runner-up).

And of course, Filipino netizens didn’t let this fact get by, tweeting that next year’s bet could very well bring home the Miss Universe crown

7 facts about Collagen and why it is important in anti-aging

Stretch marks happen when the collagen beneath the skin’s uppermost layer breaks down and stretches out. Collagen and elastin are essential to having supple skin, and collagen also plays a role in the support of tissues, organs and bones.

Collagen is referred to as the glue that holds the body together. Without it, the body would, quite literally, fall apart.

Keep in mind this important fact with 7 Facts about Collagen and Why it is important in anti-aging; the body’s natural ability to repair supporting connective tissue and maintain hydration of cells diminishes

after age 25.It’s estimated by 40 years of age, your

body stops manufacturing collagen. This results in fine lines and wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, poor hair, nail and joint quality.

What is Collagen, Did you know?•Up to 30% of all protein in the body is

collagen•Up to 70% of the protein in connective

tissue are composed of collagen•Collagen makes up a substantial amount

of the protein composition of ligaments, tendons, cartilage, bone & skin

•Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body

•Collagen also fills out the cornea where it is present in crystalline form

•It is also used in cosmetic surgery, for example lip enhancement

•It is responsible for skin elasticity, and its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany aging.

Muscles and connective tissue are naturally equipped to repair themselves by producing new muscles and collagen proteins. From the normal wear and tear that occurs over time from your daily activities, your body can become depleted of the important amino acids needed to manufacture collagen. This becomes a much more significant problem for individuals involved in strenuous physical activity as well as people with fibromoyalgia and other acute pain syndrome sufferers.

Collagen works hand-in-hand with elastin in supporting the body’s tissues. Basically, it gives body tissues form and provides firmness and strength; elastin gives the same body tissues much need flexibility. This combination of collagen and elastin is very important in many parts of the body, including, but not limited to, the lungs, bones, and tendons. Even the blood vessels rely on both collagen and elastin.

Often, collagen is discussed in relation to the skin. It works with keratin to provide the skin with strength, flexibility, and resilience. As people age, however, collagen degradation occurs, leading to

wrinkles. As such, it is an important substance for those looking for ways to fight the visible effects of aging on the skin.

Since collagens are so important within the body, collagen deficiencies can be problematic. Some genetic diseases are associated with collagen deficiencies. For example, osteogenesisimperfecta, commonly referred to as brittle bone disease, results from a significantly decreased level of collagen. It can also result from the presence of collagen that is of lower quality than normal.http://anna-hall.com

how to dress when you have a Large bustWomen come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and you will need to decide which

parts of your body you want to highlight and which you want to downplay. Only you can decide this for yourself. For example, if you are adorned with a large bust, some of you may want to downplay this while others may want to celebrate this part of your body and accentuate it. Today I will look at some ways on how you can dress when you have a large bust.

highlighting your bustIf you are proud of your big bosom and

like to show it off even more or want to give the illusion that your bust is bigger than it actually is, then here are some tips on what to wear to enhance your bust:

The right bra: always choose a good bra underneath that supports your breasts and lifts them up.

Deep V necklines with cleavage will focus the eyes’ attention on your bosom.

Halternecks: the ultimate bumbshell look.

Adding a pendant between breasts will focus the attention on them.

Cowl neckline: any drapes that fall on top of the bust will always enhance them.

Ruching: See how it appears that I have a full bossum in this picture? Created by the ruching and higher waist.

High waistline: emphasizes your breasts.

downplaying your bustIf you are very well endowed you may

want to downplay your bust so it does not overwhelm your look. Here is what to do:

Again a good bra is essential. You still want your breasts up high, so you can bring more attention to your waist.

V-necklines are your friend, although you don’t want it too low or show any cleavage. Scoop, swetheart and square necklines also work. The eye will focus on your exposed skin and not so much your breasts. If you are layering you can also use your jacket as the v-line as Georgette from GrownandCurvyWoman shows in the pictures below.

Opt for large necklaces: if you choose anything small your bust will just appear a lot bigger. It should rest above your bust line.

Other accessories can work well too. Direct attention away from your bust by having a different focal point like a nice

belt on your hip or a hat.Avoid baggy tops or ill fitting clothes:

tops and dresses should be fitted and show a clear waist definition.

Avoid skinny straps: you need much more support

Cap sleeves, shoulder pads or shoulder details can help to draw attention away from the best and up. That is why you should also not wear any sleeves that end at the mid section of your bust.

Buy shirts that fit; never wear shirts that gape at your bust. If you can’t find any that fit you, go for knitted tops instead. Alternatively, buy your shirts to fit your bust and have the rest taken in by your tailor.

Wide collars will draw to eye upwards and away from your bust.

Avoid lower armholes like dolman sleeves or batwings. The eye should be drawn upwards.

Play around with belts: belting them high must emphasize your bust and you may look better with a lower belt.

Lengthen your torso: so tucking blouses and tops is best avoided.

Avoid stiff fabrics, boxy blazers and big cable-knit sweaters. You will look much better in a torso-skimming dress that you can belt. A wrap dress will suit many busty women.

Prints can also be very effective in distracting attention away from your bust as Georgette so effectively shows above.
