Dominic Benjamin Film Studies – Aim In my planning and production I am trying to convey the ideas expressed in my textual analysis which were the way in which protagonists from two action films were represented, the films I analysed in my textual analysis were Rush Hour 3 and Hot Fuzz. My main priority of the production was to reflect the stereotypes and representations of the protagonists in each film, which are heroic, brave and often clumsy. For planning purposes I also created a document of Location Notes and a Screen Test, the aim of this was to make my 9 key frames to seem as realistic as possible in terms of the main theme of the key frames, which was action. I thought it was vital that I made sure that the characters I chose to act in my production were similar to the protagonists from my chosen films in my textual analysis as it made the action film seem more generic. One of the macro techniques I used in my production was Representation; I felt it was important that my protagonist looked as brave and heroic as possible and that it was vital that my antagonist made my protagonist look far more superior. His positive representation in the nine key frames was beneficial to the production as it meant that the audiences were able to distinguish the hero from the villain. I used different elements such as mise- en-scene to emphasise the protagonist’s positive representation, his costume and character positioning presented him as a positive individual within the key frames.
