20th Century Fox

20th century fox is a film corporation which is one of the 6 major film studios in America. It was founded in 1993 and has become the most recognised film institution in the world.

Some of the most successful films are: Avatar, Star Wars, Speed and The Chronicles of Narnia.

The majority of popular and successful films that 20th century fox created are Comedy and Family genre films for example Alvin and the Chipmunks, Doctor Do-little, Diary of a wimpy kid.

Because I am making An independent film I have to consider if 20th century would be a suitable institution to produce my film.

Even though they are a major independent producer and distributor they lack independent films.

This could be seen as a positive and a negative.

Because they haven’t produced many independent films it could mean that our film could be very popular as they are becoming quite rare within the film industry.

However it could mean that 20th Century Fox are not interested in our product and not want to produce our film.

Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is another main film studio based in California and New York. Warned bros is a global leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing and marketing forms of creative content and their related businesses across all current and emerging media and platforms.

The most popular films that they produced are: Harry Potter, Valentines Day, Sex and the City, The Hangover.

They are dedicated to producing a variety of films to suit a wide variety of audience.

After researching what Independent movies Warner bros created I found that there were a lot more than 20th Century Fox. Also in my research I have found that Warner Bros. have produced more well known and successful independent films than 20th Century Fox.

This would be massively beneficial for our Independent genre. Because Warner Bros. like to produce a variety of films ours would be seen as different and rare which would make our film hopefully become popular. Because of the variety of films that have a huge audience which will continue to watch Warner Bros. films.

Universal Studios

Universal is a subsidiary of NBC Universal and one of the six major studios. It was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, it is one of the older movie studios to still be producing films.

Recently won Academy Award winning films such as King Kong, The pianist.

Like 20th century fox they prefer to focus on certain genres. There favourite genres are Drama, Romance and adventure. They chose these genres because they are usually the most successful films to produce. They do not like taking risks because they don’t want to fail.

Universal studios lack Independent films and like 20th century fox this could be both positive and negative. Positive because it creates a difference in the Universal studios and this could create advertisement as it is not in the norm. Negative because Universal Studios may not be interested as like I said before they do not like taking risks with genres.

I think that all three could distribute my media product. But Warner Bros. being the best as it enables variety within the genres they produce. As we have chosen an Independent genre we need a distributor that is willing to take a risk as Independent films has become very rare recently. 20th Century Fox and Universal are very biased towards the popular genres and do not like to take risks as they want to always have a popular film and never fail. This creates more pressure on our independent film but if it was successful with 20th Century Fox or Universal it would create our film to have lots of publicity as it is rare for them to produce that type of genre.
