Filter elements

Filter gridFilter mesh

Filter materials-paper media -synthetic fiber

-quartz sand-carboon sponge

Types of filters:

1.Air filters2.Fuel filters (DO & HFO)3.Lube oil filters4.Water filters5.Hydraulic filters6.Fine filters (magnetic)

-always minimaly two filters per plant because of the redundancy and maintanance

Water filter

-Fresh water filters need cartridges made of steel grid and with holes bored in it-it requests finer net (0.1-0.5mm) over the holes

-Sea water filters are also made of steel tin but with rough net placed over the holes-diameter of the holes is from 1 to 3mm

Fuel filter

-HFO may contain more sediment, dirt, ash and catalyst particles so it is essential to filtrate the fuel through the 5 micron filter element before it is being conducted to the fuel injection equipment

-HFO duplex filter is used to finally filtrate the fuel oil leaving the HFO purifier. After filtration it is stored in service tank. Usually „candle” type filters are used

Lube oil filter

-simple single filter (simplex) with fine net is used-or duplex (redundancy)-same principle as a water filter -allowed pressure drop for clean filter is 0.2 bar-allowed pressure drop for dirty filter is 0.5 bar top

Duplex oil filter

Fine filter(magnetic)

-3 permanent magnet „sticks”-eliminates all metal particles-cleaned by means of a metal brush

-used when metal particles can cause abrasive wear of bearings or fuel injection equipment elements or if the particles reach the inside of the cylindar they can cause wear of the cylinder elements.

Air filter

-multiple layers for better cleaning-device composed of fibrous materials which removes solid particulates such as dust, mold (plijesan), and bacteria from the air.

-air filters are used in applications where air quality is important, notably in building ventilation systems and in the engines.

Hydraulic filter

-must sustain high pressures 200+ bar

Maintenance

-localy inspecting the inlet and outlet manometers

-following instruction book

-buying original spare parts

-regular cleaning intervals

-be aware of fuel/oil quality

NEW OIL + DIRTY FILTER = DIRTY OIL

Dirty filters

Filter problems

-pressure drop

-reduced flow through filter - dirty oil is passing through it

-to big flow (punctured filter)- dirty oil is passing through it

-bad maintenance

-poor quality

-bad oil or fuel quality
