The Punjab Economic Forum is of paramount importance and from this platform solid suggestions and recommendations will come to the fore for making country economically strong, breaking begging bowl and ensuring prosperity of people, in the light of which, steps will be taken for economic improvement.

hot spots The urban landscape is shifting. In global context, some 301 cities of the world comprise of more than half of all global economic output. The same cities are expected to account for two thirds of world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in near future. Major urban areas in developed regions are truly the Economic Giants

today.

Globally, only 600 urban centers generate 60 percent of global GDP presently. While 600 cities will continue to account for the same share of global GDP in year 2025 and this group of 600 will have a very different membership then. In next 15 years, the center of urban world’s gravity will move to South, and even more decisively, to East. When we start looking for cities that will generate the most GDP growth in future, we will find an altogether different list of potential urban hot spots. The current top 100 cities contributing to global GDP growth will be contributing just 35 percent

of GDP growth by 2025.

Thus the common misperception that megacities have been driving global growth for past 15 years, is fast changing now. The economic role of large cities as well as their future growth patterns vary widely regionally. For instance, China's rapid growth is fueled by continued growth of its megacities and the emergence of new ones while Latin America’s largest cities are welcoming fast-expanding middleweights.
