By Bob Budecki, rallyemaster Tired of Wisconsin Winters? Dreaming of getting your Porsche out of storage? Well here's something to keep you excited. On June 4, 2016, join your fellow club members for our Spring GIMMICK Rallye (GR). More details will follow in April, but here's enough to pique your interest and encourage early sign up. The GR will start and end in Reeds-burg, Wis. You and the navigator of your choice will cover a 50-mile course through the scenic back roads of Sauk County. During your drive you'll be asked to identify about 30 landmarks along the route and an-

Look ahead: It’s gimmick rallye time in June swer a question proving you actu-ally saw that item. No points are given for arriving first, so you can proceed at your own pace. Every one will finish the course at a pub in Reedsburg where it will be great fun comparing notes while you wait for the final results. A very nice prize awaits the winning team plus, of course, bragging rights! No prior experience neces-sary. Cost is per car is $20. All are welcome you need not drive a Porsche so challenge your friends to join you in this fun event.

Think of a GR as a "scavenger hunt on wheels", but you won't have to bring any items back. While you are welcome to register on the event day, I would appreci-ate your registering in advance so I know how many instructions to print and to give a head count to the pub. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Bob Budecki, email: [email protected] or 262-375-1038.

Karen Busalacchi, Oak Creek, 2015 Cayman Tim Dotson, Brookfield, 2006 Cayman S White Jay Durst, joined the region with his 2011 997.2 Carrera S Cab. Triple black, the car has 12,000 miles on it. He bought it in De-cember 2015. He is looking at adding a Tubi exhaust, "but that is awfully expensive," he said. He found the car at Ultimo Motors in Chicago. "I found it on CarGu-rus.com. I searched autotrad-er.com and cars.com also, but cargurus had the car for me. It is worthwhile searching all three, there is some overlap, but you will find cars on one and not the other two," he said. Stuart Eiche, Sussex, drives a 1997 Boxster with a silver exterior and “Boxster Red” interior. He is the original owner and stores the Porsche in winter. ”t has just 17,000 miles -- low for a 1997,” he said. 1997 was the first year of American import of the “new” Boxster.

Two autocross events set for 2016 Mike Bolton has stepped up to chair Au-tocross for the Milwaukee Region and has planned two events for region mem-bers and others in 2016, May 22 and Sept. 11. The first event is Sunday, May 22, 2016, in the Uecker Lot at Miller Park. This lot is located southeast of the park at the intersection of Frederick Miller Way and Selig Drive. The event is open to folks from other car clubs too so invite your friends.

Cost: $40 per person for PCA members $45 for non-PCA members Pay at the event. Cash or check only. No credit cards can be accepted at the event. Helmet requirements changing as of June 1.

2005 Snell-rated helmets expiring 6/1 By Terry Royals For those of you familiar with SNELL ratings, you recall that we (this is tied to PCA’s Club Racing require-ment) follow a particular guide-line where the helmets are "dated" within 10 years of the up-coming season. This season will be a little different due to the delay in new 2015 models.

They are currently in short supply and in working to stay consistent with club race rules, we will accept your 2005 version UNTIL June 1. This means you will need a SNELL rating of 2010 or 2015 for the Nord Stern re-gion June driver education event, the Milwaukee Region Aug. 12 driver educa-tion event as well as the Milwaukee Re-gion Sept. 11 autocross. Learn more about helmet requirements on the region website.

Maximize your use of the region website

The Milwaukee Region website, porschepark.org, is rich in content for mem-bers. The above image calls out some of the features of the home page including: • The large image at the top rotates ran-

domly to display different images. Re-fresh the page to see the random dis-play.

• The featured story contains a small im-age that relates to the article along with the first few lines of text in the article.

Click on the blue text reading more. • More headlines are available in the

center, noted in blue text. Click on either box to read the details.

Finally, in the UPCOMING EVENTS section in the lower portion of the page are the next two events on the region calendar. Click on either box — blue or red — to read the details of that events.

By Donna Daufenbach Warming temperatures and a bit of sun brought out a good number of people for coffee March 12 to Fiddle-heads in Mequon. Quest member Paul Westermann, looking for a Porsche for his daily driver, was the second to arrive and we were both early. Paul came seek-ing advice on what would fit his price range and plans. He received a good amount of information from everyone attending. Bob Geiser woke his 944 up and came in style as did Jeff Chang in his 991 Carrera accompanied by his son. Ken Gozdowiak attended his first event with the region and much dis-cussion ensued about his iris blue 86 Carrera, the car’s history and how he came to own it. Several other Ce-darburg residents, Al Wagner, Mike Wiviott and Tim White attended. Tommy Lowther told us his tale of recent temptation by a blue Macan.

Greg Kizevic was another early arrival and had questions about editing his profile on PCA.org which he got answered. Dan Larson joined us from Racine, reporting his Cayman was in the midst of serious detailing with some parts like the headlights temporarily removed for access to nooks and crannies in need of cleaning. Other attendees included David Mathews and his wife Camilla. The Kelly-Moss visit was also a topic of discussion and pictures of the last visit were shared. Our next Coffee Travelers will be April 16 at Black Canyon Coffee in Wales on Hwy 18 east of Hwy 83. More of us should have our Por-sches out on the road by then.

MKE PCA ROAD AMERICA DRIVER EDUCATION Block the date: Friday, Aug. 12

By Jeff Cowie We hope that by now that your car has finished off her StaBil-flavored fuel, and that you've filled her up with a fresh tank of 93 octane ... priced lower than it has been for many years. That fresh gas and well-rested Porsche is just one more reason to attend our fantastic Driver Education event at the world-renowned 4.048-mile, 14-turn Road Ameri-ca circuit in beautiful Elkhart Lake! Some of the other reasons, of course, are for novices to learn from experienced instructors, ex-actly what your car was designed and manufactured to do. Add to that, you will be able to enjoy the camaraderie of all the drivers who attend…it is a fun day. We divide the Run Groups into three categories. Group 1, Nov-ice, is for first-timers and those with limited track experience. In this group you will have an in-structor in your right seat. They will support what you are learning in the classroom as well as help you understand how to handle your car in numerous track situa-tions, e.g. over/under steering. Group 2 is for Intermediate Driv-ers; Group 3 is for Advanced

Drivers. (A word to Group 1 driv-ers: We limit the number of cars to about 35 which is due to Instructor availability. This group fills up quickly, so sign up early.) Novices – drivers will be attending a clinic when they are not on the track. The clinic is incredibly edu-cational on the basics of car han-dling in HPDE (High Performance Driving Events). We cover numer-ous topics, including braking, turn entry point, apexing corners, and turn exits. A Road America track map that specifically covers all 14 turns is scrutinized during the clin-ic. You'll also learn the all-important flag colors and designs that are used by corner workers to keep you safe on the track. Register now Registration and payment for this event is now open and handled through MotorsportReg. See link at the end of this article where you will find more details and pricing. There are numerous discounts available for early registration, first timers and instructors providing you register before July 28.

New helmet requirement A helmet is required, and must com-ply with a helmet manufactured in 2010 or later, and stickers are in five-year increments. The SNELL SA-rated sticker is required by PCA Na-tional regulations. Our Milwaukee Region follows this regulation, so for 2016 events, all helmets must have a SNELL SA-rated sticker dated 2010 or 2015. This sticker is a reflective decal affixed to the semi-rigid foam padding in the rear inside portion of the helmet, underneath the soft pad-ding. The helmet must also have a chin strap in good condition and no cracks. Well? ... Looking for fun and excite-ment? Go to Milwaukee PCA DE-- Road America and sign up. Have any questions, send us a note at [email protected] or call 414.559.9302. Cowie’s ‘78 911SC in spotlight at Greater Milwaukee Auto Show

It was an exciting day for long-time PCA Member Jeff Cowie when he was contacted by SCCA mem-ber Toni Machi, to see if he would be willing to have his 1978 911SC on display at the Greater Milwau-kee Auto Show in February. Tony was charged with gathering some very unique cars for a special ADAMM (Automobile Dealers Assn. of Metropolitan Milwaukee) display on the second floor of The Wiscon-sin Center for the duration of the show. The theme of those cars - some of them very rare - was "American vs European Sports Cars." Jeff's car was shown with some great "garage-mates,” including later models, as well as vintage. Among them was a Ford GT500, a Jaguar

XKE, an Audi R8, a vintage twin-turbo Maserati, a LeMan Ford GT40, a tricked out, late-model Camaro, and a vintage Ferrari a la Magnum PI. "It was a real 'trip' having my 911SC picked up from my home garage in an enclosed trailer, and transported to The Wisconsin Center in an en-closed trailer," Jeff said. "My 10-year-son Elliot was perhaps more excited to be a part of this. He was thrilled to be a ride-along as I drove the car into the building while a spotter led me through the tight areas and onto the elevator, where I drove my Por-sche into the display area." Jeff owns this beautiful example of a 1978 911SC. He completely stripped the interior, removed the entire HVAC system, headlight washers, power

antenna, audio system, seats, door panels, and "anything I did-n't need for a street-legal track car, shedding about 200 lbs. He installed a roll bar, two racing seats, 5-pt harnesses, and alumi-num door panels with GT3 nylon door openers, among other things. It wears #46 that appears in the same font and style as the first LeMan-winning Porsche, a 1951 356 Leichtmetall Coupe, that he saw in the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen. You'll see his car around town as his summer daily driver, and on the circuits at Road America and Blackhawk Farms for the Club's Driver Education events. Be sure to say hello to Jeff and his beautiful #46!

Daufenbach reports on meeting of Zone 13 presidents By Donna Daufenbach The presidents from the regions in Zone 13 met at Isringhausen Por-sche in Springfield, Ill., on March 19 with our Zone Representative James Jacisin, National President Caren Cooper and the new Nation-al Tour Chair Greg Halvorson. Caren presented data gathered from the minute surveys over the past year on who comprises PCA,

our interests and how we like to receive information. During lunch we went around the table and discussed successes and challenges for each region with input from each other on ideas to address these. We then spent time discussing the guidelines for good tour practices that are being developed at the national level. There have been some serious incidents that have occurred dur-

ing tours and as a group we want to be proactive and minimize such events. We then had a tour of what’s new at the dealership. We gathered by the Mexico Blue 918 in the showroom and presented a signed PCA flag to the Isringhausens. We inspected a GT4 Club Sport they had recently received and a 2016 GT3RS with its sister 2009 GT3RS both in Viper Green before adjourning and depart-ing for home.

A Mexico Blue 918 in the showroom attracted lots of attention from the Zone 13 region presi-dents.

Presidents of the PCA regions in Zone 13, including Milwaukee Region President Don-na Daufenbach (third from right), gathered for a group photo with PCA national representatives and Isringhausen Por-sche, in Springfield, Ill.

Porsche is conducting an examina-tion of 409,477 Cayenne models worldwide from model years 2011 to 2016 for a precautionary inspection, of which 88,300 are in the United States and 10,370 are in Canada. The reason for this is a clip may have become dislodged from the pedal bracket. “We are implementing a voluntary recall to inspect all Cayenne vehicles built during that period to ensure the clip is present and to re-install it if necessary. The problem was identi-

fied during internal inspec-tions and remedied in pro-duction. This is a purely precautionary measure, as there have been no re-ports of accidents or inju-ries as a result of this con-cern,” the company said in a statement. Source: Porsche Cars North America press release

The 911 R’s historic role model is a road-homologated racing car from 1967. Produced as part of a limited production series, the 911 R (R for Racing) performed in rallies, in the Targa Florio and in world record runs. The 2016 Porsche 911 R can be ordered now. In the United States, it will be reach dealers

late this summer. The starting MSRP is $184,900, excluding the $1,050 destination charge.
